Trish-- That is WONDERFUL news!! Have kept you in my thoughts and prayers!

LindaD-- Congrats on winning the weight loss challenge for last month!! YAY!!

Barb, Glad to see you back! Getting back on track is hard but it can be done--- I'm trying too!

meowee-- how is the little Tramp and Gadzella doing? Are you liking them pretty much?

Freda, your goals sound very do-able Good luck to you.

Gayle, I wish you had better luck finding something that you really enjoy. It makes it hard when people you work with make you really not want to come in to work.

Joanne, Hello-- Are you still floating way up there on cloud 9? I'm so excited for you.

Zoe, all the smoke has cleared now so that is good. I wonder just how far it does travel before it is all gone.

Ali, I walked on treadmill again today but only made it 2.48 miles. But I also cleaned house, and bought groceries before I did that. So it wasn't as much as yesterday but still made it some.

Phyllis--- Here's to a new month and may we both have good things happen!!

Lynn, Cat, Marylynn, Rosey, Bobbi and who ever I might have missed --- Hope all is going well with everyone.

Good Morning all, Trish, that is such wonderful news! I know you must be so relieved.

Linda, Congrats on winning the challenge!

It's a cold morning and it's supposed to rain. I want to get out this morning before it starts and get my walk in. I am trying to start back walking, a little at a time. I'm hoping to gain some strength and hopefully, if I start slow, it won't hurt my back. I have always exercised and I miss it so much. It just makes me feel better and I sleep better too. Something I haven't done well since menopause.

have a wonderful day, Freda

Going to be a rough OP weekend. Have to leave a little later for the wedding weekend...rehearsal dinners, cocktail parties etc. Plan on staying as OP as I can.

Here is that frozen custard recipe. It is best eaten right away, but if you have put it in your freezer before you eat it, take it out of the freezer and let it sit on the counter a while...(we had to do that last night because it turn into a rock in the freezer)...then break it up with a fork.

Whisk all the following together and freeze according to ice cream freezer's manufacturers directions:

1 cup light cream (I used cool whip)
1 cup 1% milk
1 cup granular splenda
3/4 cup egg beaters
2 teaspoons vanilla (I used a vanilla bean)

We added frozen blueberries to it before freezing, but you could add anything you like or just have it plain. Not something for every day, but a great treat!

Zoe, those peanut butter cups are a bad memory now..so just forget em and move on, Sister!

Trish, what wonderful news!! Now THAT is motivation!

Gayle, hope the next new boss is the best yet!

To everyone else...hope you have a fabulous weekend!!

Good Morning Everyone,

Hi Phyllis, about shoes - in the past, I've had foot problems. Now, I wear either New Balance running shoes or Spring Step sandals ALL the time - I put on the sandals when I step out of bed & change to the sneakers if I'm going to do some serious walking. I bought a pair of Kumfs for the winter - pretty good, but not as comfy as my sandals.

Hi Linda (Meowee) - do you eat the Sugar Free Cool Whip? That's what I get. I know it's still just empty calories, but at least it's lower carb (3 g for 2 Tbsps) than the other. I am also a Cool Whip junkie. Last thing I eat every night is a SF jello w SF Cool Whip.

Hi Cat - what's the title of the Splenda cookbook? I'll go looking for it today. BTW - I made the MOST delicious scallop recipe yesterday. I'll post it up in the recipe thread later.

Hi Zoe - OK - Halloween's over. Dump the candies! We've got 2 tough months ahead of us - need to go into Basic Training to deal with them.

Hi Joanne - my df had some laser surgery on neck - got rid of all her "pain in the neck." When my dd was preparing for her wedding, she looked at lots of places - got so discouraged, she decided to elope to FL & have her wedding on a ship in Ft. Lauderdale. My dh, my sister/brother & I and 4 others attended. It was a beautiful wedding. I always tell people that my dd eloped & I followed.

Hi Gayle - I'm ready for a get-together anytime. I can pack in record time. Just tell me where and when & I'll be there.

Hi Freda, Trish, Barb - good luck with your November goals.

Today I'm going to spend some time at the Library of the American Revolution - within walking distance from me - if I get the energy to walk 5 miles. I found at least one of my ancestors who was in the war. They have TONS of stuff there. Lots of fun.

If it gets nicer - kind of dismal right now - I'll go to the state park & walk - if not, I'll drag myself to the gym. I'm having REAL problems making myself go to the gym since my month off. Anyone have any advice for me?

Hope we all have a Happy and Healthy day.

Lynn

It has a ton of desserts, but also recipes for meat and vegetable dishes...barbeque sauces etc. We have a "book guy" who comes to school selling books and such in the teacher's lounge and I picked it up there.

Good morning everyone,

It was so nice on our walk this morning. The air was drier and cooler so that we were able to walk a little faster than we could during the summer. It's supposed to be in the 80's today. I'll finally be able to turn off the a/c and open up the whole house.

Trish, that is fantastic news! I know how relieved you are.

Lynn, Phyllis, my girlfriend's DIL is a PT and she recommends New Balance to all her patients. I've been wearing NB for years and I absolutely love them.

Karen, walking 2.48 miles on the treadmill is terriffic!

Linda D., congratulations on winning the Oct. challenge.

Zoe, yes, I did have a nice visit with my in-laws. We all went out for breakfast then we followed them to Ft Myers to help my FIL unload his car. We hadn't seen them since last May when they left to go home to MA for the summer.

Hi to all the GOLDEN GIRLS that I missed.
Enjoy your Fri.
BFN, Ali

Default Happy Friday!

Wow, lots of activity here in the past couple of days. I love it. Blue skies here ,but cool. I heard the word snow as a possibility for next week Brrrr

LindaD - Congrats on your very successful challenge last month. You are an inspiration to us all.

Zoe - HAVE A GREAT TRIP!!! I know you will.

Trish - So glad about the good news. I'm happy dancing for you too.

Cat - I have tried most of your recipes so far and they are all great. I will try this one too. Also I started using the Green Face Cream this week. So far so good. Only a little redness around the eyes. I feel it working, though. Thanks for all your advice!!

Lynn, wow, you go to so many interesting places...also walking 5 miles - great! I hope to get outside at lunch. I've exercised every day now for 2 weeks!!

Hi Aleka - you've been walking lots too!

Gayle - I love the idea of a GGs get-together too. Interesting that you have actually have met a few 3fatchicks in person. Hummm...spring would be good, don't you think?

Joanne - So happy that you're getting better. Here's to a sucessful November!

Sorry I don't have time to reply to everyone...Keep posting...have a great weekend.

Lyn

Hi All

We have another nice sunny day . . . but it is windy again . . . and apparently this is just the proverbial "lull" before the "storm". We are being told to prepare for a direct hit from Tropical Storm Noel which is kindly missing the US pretty completely. Although it is not expected to be upgraded to an actual hurricane, we are expecting winds of 75 to 80 mph and upwards of 4 inches of rain over the course of tomorrow. Other than that . . . life is pretty calm around here.

My problem with the Cool Whip, LYNN, is not one of "quality" but of "quantity". To my mind/tongue (?) a serving of Cool Whip is about a cup, rather than a paltry couple or three tablespoons worth. Same problem I have with Peanut Butter.

I love Gadzella, KAREN, but I've moved Tramp to the Livingroom and gave his spot in the Familyroom back to my little desk. His next stop will likely be the garage sometime before Christmas. It really bothers my ankles.

Think I will soon go looking for that Splenda Cookbook too, CAT. I haven't bought a new book since our Canadian dollar got above par with the US dollar. But . . . finally . . . at least WalMart has realized why their book and magazine sales have dropped so drastically and have finally started selling at the US price on the label instead of the Canadian with is still reading anywhere from 20% to 30% higher. Hopefully the rest of the major booksellers will not be far behind.

Well I'd better get going with a run to town since it looks like that will be completely out of the question for tomorrow. Have a great day, gang . . . see you later. ?

meowee--- My goodness! You stay safe there! I know those winds can be so damaging! We've been in our 5th wheel RV a few times when those "Straight Line winds" have hit! Pretty scary! I usually just grab Ginger and Sissy and try to get to more sturdy shelter. Once we were at my Dad's so I just ran to his house in the wind and rain and stayed until the winds died down!

I'm glad to hear that you like Gadzella--- I am so watching for one on craigslist. I have just the mini tramp that I bought at Wal-mart... it doesn't have the grab bar with it so I don't use it as much as I would like either.

Well, have a good day and be careful!

I meant to change my weight before but forgot! For the past two weeks I've been at 157 and was hoping that it would go back down to my ticker weight of 154 but it still hasn't as ofthis morning so time to face it, change it and move on! More walks in the future for me!

Hi GOLDEN GIRLS hopefully next week I can get back to being a good golden girls and send private good wishes to everyone. I was able to read the posts and first and foremost

CONGRATS TRISH!!! Now after scares like this we should be concentrating on doing good things. I am trying except for this past few weeks of feeling yucky hasn't helped my cause.

Zoe - have a great trip!!!!

Lynn -- I did think about getting married in Maui when we go in January but we really do want family and friends around -- I have so many people excited about witnessing this wedding.

Here is an offer to any Golden Girl that would like a Splenda Cookbook. I bought one last year but found I just don't have time to follow the recipes. I am willing to pass it on to anyone that would like it. Its the Marlene Koch one - love to mail it to the first person that would like it.

Busy weekend ahead but a good weekend -- hope everyone has a good one.

Happy November to all you wonderful GG's:

I'm still having pain with my back. If I'm not any better by Monday I will go see a doctor. Other than that I'm happy it's Friday and I have the weekend ahead. I'm just going to relax, read, and watch a couple movies. If I'm feeling better I will go to church on Sunday but that's it for me.

The fires are headed to Corona and the Santa Ana winds are supposed to pick up again tonight. My friend has a son who is a firefighter. He's been out on the line for 9 days with very little sleep. Please say a prayer for all the firefighters who have been giving it their all without the rest they need. It's hard on them when they can't talk to or see their families. My friend says her son doesn't have cell phone service but does have the capability to text message her to let her know he is okay.

Zoe: I bought candy to pass out but had to take it back to the store to get my money back after I hurt my back so I won't have candy sitting around to tempt me. You ate the candy and you just have to forget it and move on.

A GG reunion sounds like a good plan. I'd love to meet everyone.

Trish - I'm so glad you don't have cancer. God bless.

It's late and I haven't slept well in the past few days so I'm going to bed. I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Good Morning Everyone,

Ate dinner out last night & gained a pound. I think restaurant chefs inject their food with calories!

I ate salmon (with a mandarin orange sauce), vegetables, the orange pieces & salad w oil & vinegar. - Didn't seem like a pound worth of food. Today, I'll drink a lot of water & I WILL get to the gym.

Yesterday morning I went to the Am Rev Library & found an ancestor who was in the crossing of the Delaware River with George Washington! VERY exciting moment.

Talking

Lynn, it's more than likely the sodium in the food. Drinking water should flush it out of your stystem.....also I am always at least .5 lb up the day after I eat fish.

Linda D, I'm sorry your back is still bothering you. Hope you get a good nights sleep. My first husband and his brother were in Forestry....my bil fought a lot of fires in CA....I was always worried about him. They are very brave men and women and don't get enough recognization.

Zoe, will be off soon I belive to see her son....I've only been to CA and sat in the LAX (airport) for 2 hrs.....we may take a trip to Napa Valley this coming year. Hope Zoe will have lots of photos.

Joanne, glad your feeling a bit better............making those wedding plans should cheer you up. I will ask my acupuncturist. I would love to have the cook book if it is not already taken, I'll pay you the postage.

Rosey, it is a struggle to be far away from someone you love when they go through health problems. Call her a lot and send her lots of cards to help cheer her up.

Cat, you have such good ideas. I don't have an ice cream freezer, we use to and made it all the time....now I'm missing it! Have fun at the wedding.

Ali, the winds and rain have stopped. We didn't get it as bad as some of the more southern counties but we had some 40 mph winds and plenty of rain. It is only to be 80 today.....my dh is sneezing, allergies, so I don't know if I can shut off the air yet. Now is the time that we can really enjoy living in FL, everyone else will be cold and we will have the beautiful 70 degree weather that we moved down here for.

Lyn, SNOW what the heck is that???? I really do love seeing it snow and the fresh snow but that is it, I haven't missed it at all. But I won't mind seeing it again if this place ever sells and we move. Being retired we won't have to go out in it everyday if we don't want too.

Karen, yes maybe we will get some action this weekend. It will be different for us to be able to leave now without worring about the dog....I'd still rather take the worry and have my dog. Good luck.

Linda, I hope your feeling better about the kitten......I had a bad day yesterday. I am glad you have your other fur babies to love....it sure is lonely around here.

I'm sure I forgot a lot of you but I am starving so off to the kitchen. Oh, I lost 1 lb. since I've been home and getting back into a routine.

Morning Everybody . . .

So far, not too bad with the weather . . . it's dull and a bit windy . . . but they are still saying the hurricane word. Predicted to be at its worst between 7 pm tonight and 7 am tomorrow. Definitely not feeling happy this morning.

Aww PHYLLIS . . . . . . You're so very right, having the other five khats (thanks ZOE, I love that word ) definitely helps and I feel compelled to mention that the cure for your loneliness is as close as your nearest animal shelter -- whenever you re ready, of course.

So sorry for your worries ROSEY . . . . . . I know what it is like to be so far away. During the last few years of my Mother's life, she was in Ontario and I was down here. When you reach for the comforting food, try to make it veggies.

Hey there LINDA . . . Did you see my PM? Please PM me with your mailing address . . .

Big for everybody else. BTW (especially for our resident diabetics) did you know that November is National Diabetes Month and the 14th is World Diabetes Day. Couldn't be a better time to find this little piece of good news in my e:mail this morning . . . http://www.everydayhealth.com/public...11/01&q1=&cen=

Have a great day . . . See you all later . . . well, if I have power.
