Well happy week after Thanksgiving to all the GOLDEN GIRLS. I am now working on week two of being "on track". I am finally posting regularly in my blog and want to get back to visiting here to give and receive support. I am really wanting to do it this time.
Of course I look at your picture Marylynn and think that could be me with a lot more hard work.

So glad to see everyone basically survived the holidays. It was easy for me -- no holiday!!! I want to get into this groove and hope to have it really ingrained before I have to hit the holiday season.

Phyllis have a great and safe trip.

Back to catch up even better tomorrow!!!

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. My sister and I had a WONDER-FULL weekend in NYC - despite the stagehands strike.

We did 3 museums, 2 off-Broadway plays, a Gospel tour of Harlem, and many fantastic meals at restaurants.

I stayed within my "restaurant rules" and we did quite a bit of walking. Hopefully, I won't have gained any weight.

Check back tomorrow,

Lynn

I'm super-glad that Thanksgiving is over; I didn't do too well with my eating.
Then, on Friday I was miserable, bloaty, and HUNGRY all day long. Saturday, I jumped back on the wagon, and have been back OP ever since. Feel SO much better! I guess I've gotten used to eating my *healthy* stuff so that now, when I don't, I don't feel so great.
Still not so terrific with the exercise....I'm just not feelin' it, yanno? Hopefully I'll get out of this slump before too long. Been feeling really tired and blah. Back to work today, and stayed busy, so the time went by quickly, which I was glad about. Warmer today, too, than it was over the weekend. I'm really looking forward to Christmas, when my son will be home from Cali for ten days, and we'll have the whole family together. Thanksgiving was pretty quiet - dinner with just one DD and her DH & son. The other two DD's have in-law obligations for Thanksgiving, but on Christmas, we have everybody together and I love it. Hopefully, I'll be down five more pounds by then. That's my goal, but I'd be happy with three pounds gone, really.
Hope everybody's doing well....I haven't been around for a while and have missed the GG's. Have a good night, all, and take care,

Z

Good Morning . . .

Boy is it ever raining this morning and it's very windy, too. Temperature, however, was an amazing 14C/57F by 9 am -- although, at this time of year, I'd rather have cooler and

Had a major senior moment first thing this morning -- but it resulted in pretty good news -- hauled the scale out of his corner (because I thought this was the 28th and therefore time for my monthly weigh-in) and he kindly told me I weighed 222.2 for a loss of 2.8 pounds in the past 4 weeks (well, 4 weeks less 1 day ) Think I'll weigh again tomorrow morning and take the lower of the 2 numbers as my loss for November. Will wait until tomorrow to change my ticker.

Anyway . . . guess I'd better get moving and shaking . . . and visit a few places around 3FC. This may just be the day that the 'baking bug' wins -- especially since I'm feeling good about my weight loss and therefore think I deserve a little treat (oh, bad, bad attitude, Linda ) See you all later, gang . . . hope everybody has a great day . . .

Hi Everyone, Now that the holiday is over, no more excuses! Time to get back into the GOOD way of eating. I can't say I over ate at Thanksgiving, but the food i chose could have been better. I am trying to eat very healthy meals in addition to low calorie.

Good to see everyone back posting again. Now is a very important time for all of us. There is another Holiday right around the corner, plus the stress that it brings. A good time to renew our resolve.

Take care, Freda

Hi GOLDEN GIRLS Wow I feel good to be back and posting regularly. I am up to day 8 on my blog!!! I have recorded all my calories -- made a concious effort to do some exercise. Helps today that it is beautiful and sunny outside. I hope to haul this carcass around the campus at lunch time.

Lynn -- so glad you had a wonderful weekend. I can't even imagine the stagehand strike. On each of my trips to NYC I always booked tickets to a play and if I had to miss out I would be extremely disappointed. Hope it gets fixed soon.

Zoe - it also took a miserable bloaty evening to get me back OP. I guess I was just floating around eating enough to keep me from losing any weight not enough to make me gain too much (I don't think LOL). But that horrible miserable too full feeling is something I just dont' want to experience again. And there is a show I watch on TV and it really shows the importance of the exercise -- I really have to keep moving or I will be in trouble -- that is my motivation. Sounds like Christmas is going to be fabulous for you -- right now as it stand it might be just four of us for Christmas -- we will see. If I say it outloud too much I might end up with a dozen!!! Careful what you wish for right???

Linda - congrats on the 2.8 gone. I usually weigh myself once a month but I am going to wait until the new year and get my starting point then.

Freda -- yes lets all get back on track and get ready for the next holiday.

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Oleic acid empties from the stomach more slowly and suppresses appetite more potently than macadamia oil, results of a study suggest. Oleic acid also stimulates specific gastrointestinal hormones known to send fullness signals.

These findings, Dr. Tanya J. Little, from the University of Adelaide, South Australia, and colleagues say, could have application in obesity treatment.

Oleic acid, a so-called free fatty acid, is the main component of olive oil. Macadamia oil, a so-called "triacylglyceride," is the main constituent of vegetable oil and animal fats.

Little and colleagues studied nine healthy normal-weight men on three separate occasions to determine the effects in the gut and on appetite of 40 grams of acid oleic acid, 40 grams of the macadamia oil, and 600 mL 4 percent milk protein (the control substance).

They report in the journal Gastroenterology that oleic acid stayed in the stomach much longer than macadamia oil.

Moreover, hunger was less and fullness was greater after oleic acid when compared with milk protein and macadamia oil, and energy intake tended to be less as well.

Oleic acid also produced an earlier and more dramatic increase in circulating levels of the gut hormones CCK and PYY, relative to macadamia oil and milk protein.

In a written commentary, two researchers note that the potential importance of this finding is "considerable" as CCK and PYY are regarded as "major players" in inducing feelings of fullness.

Additional studies, note Drs. Michael Camilleri and Seth Sweetser of the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, Rochester, Minnesota, "may lead to novel applications for obesity management."

Hi all you GGs

I'm back with a slight gain for November. Don't really want to change my ticker yet in case I'm able to lose it by next Monday (my weekly wiegh-in day). Congrats to you, Linda, on your Nov. loss of 2.8!!!

And Joanne - you seem to be doing very well too.

And Zoe - glad you're back in the grove.

I went to "Abs Class" today at lunch. Oh my Lord! I was definitely the under performer in this class. I modified quite a few of the exercises just so I could sort of do them. There was one where you lie on your side and crunch your legs up to your middle and at the same time crunch your upper body toward your legs. Yeah right! I couldn't even LIFT my legs off the floor while lying on my side...so I just did the upper body part.

We're doing this Holiday Fitness challenge here at work and I put as my goal to do at least 30 minutes of exercise a day and to lose 2 pounds by end of Dec.

Ah, I love a challenge...(not) but it will keep me motivated.

Have a great rest of Tuesday everyone!

Lyn

Okay . . . you don't need to hold your breath waiting for me to post the wonderful Sugarless Sugar Cookie recipe . . . I tried it . . . actually a waste of good ingredients IMHO. Came out like a cross between a bad sugar cookie (not sweet enough) and a bad shortbread (not short enough). Oh well . . . I still managed to sample a few (just to be sure, I guess ) before I tossed the rest outside for the birds and other little backyard critters to enjoy.

Another good day behind me -- have to keep on this track. I have an appointment for a CT scan (not sure exactly when -- still need to follow up). Its all about getting a set point for my arthritic disks. Although for the last couple of weeks I haven't had much problem with it. I was visited by an ergonomic specialist and she helped - -just moving my monitor and chair over a couple of inches made a world of difference. Lyn - not sure if you ever get feedback from the employees but what a service you do!!!!

Lynn - interesting info -- does this mean that once again olive oil is proved to be a super food? I eat a tbsp ever day with my salad.

Lyn - I am off to my abs class today -- never worry about modifying its about moving. We always joke that Dory (from Finding Nemo) is our mascot instead of "keep on swimming swimming swimming" we just say "keep on moving, moving, moving" its just about the moving -- not how we move.

Linda - I really appreciate you not sharing the recipe LOL

Well now that I found my way back it seems like everyone else has disappeared -- oh well it won't be for long I am sure.

This month, I've been trying to eat around 1,200 calories/day - up from around 975 last month. Unfortunately, although I've resumed my exercise, and hit around 1,200 calories/day, I haven't lost any weight this month.

I'm about ready to go back to the lower range. This just doesn't seem to be working for me.

Hello Everyone! Gosh it seems to be pretty quiet around here...... Guess everyone must be out Christmas shopping and decorating! It is so hard to try to be sooooooo Good this time of year but I'm trying!
I spent most of today just getting the house cleaned up and laundry caught up again. I have boxes that I am ready to start packing things away in but wanted to get the "regular" stuff done first before making more of a mess! Except for cleaning house and laundry I really haven't got that much "intentional exercise" in the last 3 or 4 days. I was walking with Ginger and Sissy to the mailbox everyday but at 20 degrees with a wind blowing about 45 mph it is just a little to cold to walk that! So maybe tomorrow I can get on the treadmill again and put in some miles.

Sure hope all is going well with everyone. Don't forget to come back and let us know how you are doing...

Smile Is Golden Girls An Age or an Attitude?

I have read a lot of your posts but I don't think I have contributed much to them.

I am 54 1/2 chronically but 34 1/2 "attitudinally". Think it's denial about growing old? Maybe.....

I may be foolish--nothing like an old fool, right---but I plan to just slug my weigh (pun intended) through the holidays. This is my LAST diet (which according to some books I am reading means I will be dieting until I draw my last breathe) so what is different about this time of year? Last year I heard that the AVERAGE (read: not fat) person gains about 2-5 lbs during the holidays. Keep that in mind as we move through the next month or so.

Like Halloween and Thanksgiving before, I will do my best and leave it at that. I was left with a huge bowl of Tootsie Rolls on Halloween. I am way too frugal to throw out anything so I implored my DH to help "get rid of them". He "did" offer to take them to work but I have NEVER paid $7 for a bag of candy in my life and I said NO WAY. Now, I wish I would have. He really was the "wiser" of the two of us.

My DH remarked how peaceful I seemed towards food at Thanksgiving. He said he noticed that I don't seem "so threatened" by its presence any more. I have my first Christmas party of the season coming up on Saturday and I don't want to go. No, I am not antisocial. I am actually quite friendly and warm. I just don't like having a lot of forbidden foods around and me within a mile of them. Feeling threatened? You bet I do! I won't know until I face my "demons" (and at church too!) so I will have to post something next week after I have faced that situation. It doesn't help that I am the fattest person at our church either and I sometimes feel that "all eyes" on me and my weight. I have not shared about my weight lose except here, with my husband and a few close friends. I plan to keep it that way.

The weather is getting cooler here in Atlanta and I love it (since I moved from the frigid Midwest 4 years ago). I spent all of last Saturday and part of Sunday stringing lights on our porch just so I could be outdoors. I take it you aren't going through menopause? I would have walked those dogs to death if I could have been out in "weather" like that. I am hot all the time.
LOL. I just wish this cooler temps here would last at least until March but it won't. We'll be having 60 degrees by early February. (sigh)

Good Morning all, I just got back from therapy. Can't say it's helping much yet, but I suppose I can't expect miracles over night. I'm not feeling well either, kind of queezy. It started when I was in the pool and I'm thinking it was because the water was quite warm. I have never been able to tollerate hot/too warm water. it makes me sick at my stomach. Anyway, I'm hoping it that and not something that I'm coming down with.

Joann, You're on a roll girl, keep it up! Doesn't it feel better when you eat right and exercise?

Lyn, don't let a slight gain get you down. You will do better this month! And I couldn't do those exercises either! That's why i exercise at home instead of the gym.

Lynn, I don't know why you wouldn't be losing weight on 1200 calories a day. That is about as low as they recommend you to go, calorie wise.

Karen, did you manage to take a walk on the treadmill? It's a hard transition, from walking outside to haviing to dust off the treadmill and walk inside.

Pam, Know what you mean about getting rid of the Halloween candy. I just end up eating it. so this year we bought chips. The problem with dieting is, you still have to eat. You can't just totally stay away from food. There are so many occasions that we celebrate with a big meal. We just have to learn how to manage them. So easily said, so hard to do,

Everyone take care, Freda

Hello Golden Girls....I've missed you.

I had to go out of town on business and just got back a couple hours ago. I'm at work now and wanted to stop by and say hello. I haven't read the posts since last Friday. This was the last business trip for me and the meeting I just attended was to explain the company wind down.

My last day of work will be December 28 and I will officially be unemployed for the first time since 1981. So, it's going to be a new experience for me I'm sure. I'm sure God will bless me with a job. I will do the possible and let Him do the impossible. The mortgage industry is dead and will be for another year or two so a new career is definitely in order.

I'm not going to read the posts because I've missed so many so if anyone had a loss....congratulations!!! and if anyone is new.....welcome!!!

I didn't do well on Thanksgiving. I love pumpkin pie and stuffing and I can say I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I only gained two pounds on my doctor's scales but I know I will take it off in a few days by working my butt off on the treadmill, using resistance bands, and weights. My goal by Christmas Eve Day is to lose 4 more pounds plus the 2 pounds I gained on Thanksgiving.

I hope everyone enjoyed Thanksgiving. I enjoy the season but I don't enjoy the food that is everywhere I turn. I'm going to stay focused and put family, friends, and church at the center of Christmas instead of food.

Have a great day.
