Jude, I've seen Dr. Northrup speak at conferences before - she is great. I have a couple of her books.

I'm glad you enjoyed the program on PBS.

Good Morning Ladies,

I am sorry I have not been back to this group... I did not realize that people use more than one forum.
I started going to the calorie counters forum the same day I found this one.

I have been behaving! Really I have.

My average calorie intake is about 1440. I have been told to start about 1600 hundred.
I joined CURVES, with daughter Magan almost 2 weeks ago.

I have medical conditions that make me want to do It all gradual. I am also doing my tread mill on my OFF days with Curves. I have got myself up to 1 mile a day on the treadmill.

I had my 1st. unofficial weigh in at CURVES, Thursday. I lost 1 1/2 pounds in a week.

I am still trying to learn HOW to do the whole new way of life, the correct way.

I have just started treatment last year for OSTEOPOROSIS. It seems that it is running in my family pretty bad. Even though I am only 49+ AND overweight, I still have it. I have gotten almost 2 inches shorter than I started.

The exercises that make me do any weight bearing on my left knee is horrible. But getting better.

I am hoping that with the Curves people and the people here, To learn how to make the correct changes in the way I live. So far, I feel I am doing well.

I go to the Dr. for check up next month. Hope to see my other health problems getting less. Maybe I can get removed from my newer prescription for Triglycerides, If I am doing good with my diet.

My goal this year is to get off of 2 of the 4 meds I take (not including the Boniva).

Oh I also want to say thanks for the fish recipes. Magan and I are eating lots of chicken and fish. its nice to have new ideas.

will talk more soon,

Theresa

Hi everyone. I am another newbie to this site but not to dieting. I am 54 years old and had dieted my way up to over 200 pounds. I have lost enough to be in onederland but not enough to be happy with my weight. I have lived in Central Florida for the past 25 years but I am originally from Buffalo NY so I know all about cold weather. That is one of the main reasons we moved all those years ago. I have 3 children, with the youngest one a senior in high school. No grand-children but a house full of pets. I am looking to getting to each one of you and giving and receiving support. Jen

Theresa, I just noticed that you joined Curves 2 weeks ago. So did I. How do you like it? I went 3 times my first week and 4 times last week but I haven't been walking on my days off like you have. I have some co-workers to go with me to Curves so it makes it easier to get there.

Hi Jengi, I love Curves. The owner is a young but very nice girl. She has given me lots of help already.
I did pass on this website and Fitday to her. She wants to pass it on to the other women.

I am going to Curves at least 3 times a week, according to the schedules around here. It does help to have a Curves buddy, I go with 21 yr old daughter.
I am walking on my days off too. Made it up to 1 mile each time. That does not sound like much to some. but I have not been on it for at least 1 yrs.

Good morning ladies, It is a beautiful Monday morning here in Central Nebraska.
Jengi, look forward to getting to know you. We will do all we can to give you support and we always like getting some back

THERESA: Good for you joining Curves just be really careful about those exercises that hurt your knee. I work for a physical therapist and we have to tell some patients that Curves is good for them but some of those machines are not. Be sure you check with your doctor when you go, the last thing you want to do is hurt your knees permantly. Keep up the walking on your days off too, that really helps.

HY: I think I'm going to go to the library and check on the web about your diet. My trip to the Dr. didn't turn out all that fantastic. My thyroid is doing really good on the new medicine I started on last year, much better than it was. It is my cholesterol I really expected it to be much better this time. I exercise most days and my eating is better than a year ago, but it went up again. My good is really good and my triglycerides are great but my bad got worse. Now what is up with that ? My Dr. said she will give me 3 months to get it better with diet and exercise, if it doesn't she wants me on meds. I DON'T WANT TO GO ON MEDS!!!!!! I did that before and I found I ate worse because I knew the medicine would make it ok. Now what kind of dumb thinking is that Well needless to say I was really dissappointed and in a bad mood most of the weekend.

Guess I'd better get to reading and go walk on the treadmill, I will talk to you gals later this week. Have a good one.

Thank you Donna for the welcome. Sorry you didn't get all the good news you expected. Did your doctor give you any suggestions on how to lower the "bad cholesterol" or just see me in 3 months? Wish I could help you but I have no idea.
Theresa, did you make it to Curves today? I went right after work even though my workout buddy didn't go. I am going tomorrow too.

Jude My PBS station had their fund raiser last week so I noticed the show you talked about with Dr Christine Northup is on tomorrow night so I am hoping to catch it. J

Jengi, YES! I went with Magan.
It was harder today for some reason. My blood pressure went up pretty high for me. I wasn't feel strong today. I am fine now!?
I will probably go tuesday also.

Donna, I have read that if you take Niacin, It helps with the colesteral. I don't know how true it is. might be worth asking.

I unoffically weighed myself today. I have my first 2 lb. loss.

I am going to try to get my time working out in the a.m. Before I go to Curves.

take care

Theresa

Hi ladies...I have had a really rough weekend. Can't seem to stop eating anything and everything that isn't nailed down. Don't know if Aunt Flo is soon to appear or not, and that's why I'm craving things I should not be eating! Hope I do better this week.

Jengi... I look forward to getting to know you.

Donna...Sorry to hear your cholestoral is high. My brother just got the same report. He is eating oatmeal for breakfast and more chicken and fish with a salad. Hopfully that will do the trick. Our weather was beautiful this weekend and the snow is slowly melting. We were in the high 40's and made it to 50 today, but it will all change by Wednesday. Snow is suppose to be back for a couple of days.

Hy...Glad to hear your knee is feeling a little better and your back to your walking. Our road is finally clear of snow, so I'm going walking tomorrow.

Theresa... on your 2 lb loss!! I wish I lived closer to town, I would join Curves in a heart beat, but with the price of gas and living 25 miles from town, I'll have to stick with my tapes.

Had my appointment with the eye doctor on friday and he has refered me to an eye surgeon. I have a cyst and a wart on my lower eyelid. So I will see the surgeon in April.

Have a good evening.

Well now that was a first ? wanted to post and I got a message that I wasn't logged in,never had that happen before. Oh well here I am !!

Jengi: Thanks for asking, my doctor said to cut fats from my diet and keep up the exercise. I can't cut much more fat, I do eat too much red meat maybe, but I really like meat and I get the lean cuts. Who knows? thanks for caring, it helps.

Theresa: I have been taking Niacin for several years now and it does help, but I had run out and hadn't gotten any more, do you think being off of it for 3 weeks could make that much of a difference? Well I'm back on it now.
Way to go with a 2 Lb loss! That is super

Cheryl: Sweetie, I think that wanting to eat every thing in site is weather related. I was doing the same thing for awhile, but since it has gotten nicer
I'm really into salads and good food. Have been out and walked and does that ever feel good. Had my DH bring me to work today and I will walk home it is about a mile, figure if I do that eveyday maybe I'll make some headway here. I appreciate the advice about what to do to bring my cholesterol down. I usually eat oatmeal for breakfast but I have been a little lax lately. I always eat a good breakfast though. Had chicken breasts on the grill last night along with some brown rice and veggies. Tonight I am having whole wheat spaghetti with sauce only, will put a little hamburger in DH's helping, and a big salad.
I'm sorry to hear that you will need surgery on your eye, Good Luck with that.

Went to the library this morning and got the South Beach Diet book. Don't know if I can do it, but I am going to read up on it and see. My boss told me yesterday that he didn't want me going on the statin drugs because of what he has seen them do to your joints and muscles, bet my Dr. would love to hear that. He told me his 91 year old grandmother, who weighs 85 lbs has a cholesterol of 325 and his dad,who passed away last year from cancer and weighed 430 lbs before he got sick had a cholesterol of 110. So how do you know if you should be scared or not?

Enough about my problems, how is every one doing on their diet and exercise programs, got any great ideas for the rest of us? Think it is time for some there now we should be good for the rest of the week, if not we may need or or GOOD LUCK GALS

I love you guys, thanks for caring. DONNA

Hi guys! And hi to the Newcomers! Hy can you tell me about your thyroid and you mentioned that you lost height. I have a thyroid issue and am on a small dose of synthryoid that I guess I will be on for life now. And when I went in for an Osteo test I had lost an inch of height thought my test was fine. I am only just 5'2" and do not care to shrink anymore. Cheryl I hope the munchies are gone. I know what it is like. The suggestion is to sit and meditate and see what is eating you. That is so hard though. I learned a lot about my reasons for eating in OA but have not cured them yet. They have roots into my childhood. So maybe I can just learn to cope. But they do advise working through the feelings if you want to be free of them. Food just takes them away.
Glad to see you guys getting to Curves. Tried it but is was not for me as I have wrist and knee issues as well and the machines were too much. I go to the gym or am trying to get there. Sleep problems still. I have an appointment with my doctor on Monday. I learned something from that show. If you have had a lifetime of stress and I have, then at menopause you can have worn out your adrenal glands which balance your hormones. She said you will have a worse menopause but also that you will be estogen dominant and low in progersterone. And one of the symptoms of that is ANXIETY!! So that really gave me something to think about and instead of a sleeping pill maybe I need to straighten out my hormones. I hate taking meds.
I do take statin drugs and have taken them since I was in my thirties. I worked at a medical lab when they brought out the cholesterol testing and they used the staff as guinea pigs to test the machines. Found mine was a little high. I was tested thoroughly and it was found that I have genetic high cholesterol and there is nothing they can do for it but meds. My brother has it as well. We believe it came from my dads side of the family and my dad was dead at 58 from a heart attack. And yes they can cause muscle ache. I get that and take Co enzyme 10 which seems to conteract it. Dr northrup mentioned in her show that the statin drug drains your body of CQ10 which is an antioxidant. So I was happy that taking it orally worked. My cholesterol numbers are all good. But she also said that 50% of people that have heart attacks have normal cholesterol. So there is a huge area of discussion in this field. For me I take them and will continue to.
So I am at work and had better close. I am doing pretty well with my food and hope to see a loss next weigh in. Have a great day everyone!!!
Hugs to you all Jude

Donna, thanks for the "will power dust" How I wish it was as easy to lose weight as it is to gain it. Oh well, that is a dream that will not come true. I'm glad to hear you're back on your Niacin. I know when I run out of my Glucosamine & Chondroitin I start to ache in a few days. That is one pill I try never to run out of. I have been so tired all week with daily savings time starting( how I hate getting up and driving to work in the dark) but I still have made it to Curves 3 times this week. Tomorrow and Friday may be out of the question so I went when I was able.
Cheryl, I's sorry to hear about your eye problems. You'll be in my thoughts.

Jude, I am just checking messages and have to get to bed and will be gone tomorrow but I will reply to your question on Friday. I did want to mention however that I'm not the one that said I had lost height unless it was a typo and I meant WEIGHT - that could be - lol!! I'm the same height I've been all my adult life.

Hugs to everyone else and sorry I haven't been around this week...it's been one of those Talk to everyone here Friday!
