The only thing I can find around here are called sugar snap peas. And ok the word sugar makes all of the bells and whistles go off but aren't they the same thing as snap peas? If not what is the difference and are they an OP food?

They snap peas and sugar snap peas are the same thing.

how do I know? I asked my produce guy when I went food shopping the first time I did Phase 1

and I think I remember the difference being how they are grown...something about being higher above ground maybe???

Yes, they are the same thing. And they're yummy! You eat the pod and everything (I usually remove the "string" that is on one side of the pod.) I steam them until they are tender-crisp. They are different from snow peas which are flatter.
