Default Newbie Here!

Hello,

My name is Tiffany and I'm a 27 year old mother of a 6 year old boy. I'm engaged to his father and we have been together for almost 10 years. I have been overweight pretty much all my life, and I reached my highest weight last year at 290. As I type that, I can't believe it. I weigh almost 300 lbs! When I look at myself, I see it but I don't. Clothes can hide a lot, but not everything. I'm tired of being the fat girl. I need to make a change.

In January, I decided to do just that. I bought The FIRM workouts and did them religiously. By April, I was down 10 lbs, but then my weight kind of stalled. And I gave up, as usual. But, instead of putting it off until next New Year's, I'm getting up and getting back on the wagon. I'll still be using my FIRM tapes to exercise. Eating is kind of like Body for Life/Zone/SB. Protein with every meal, good carbs and fats.

I want to succeed at this so bad, but I kind of think I may be scared of success... Does that make sense? Anyway, I hope to learn a lot from you ladies, and I look forward to your support and encouragement. And I can't wait to offer you the same!

Hi Tiffany!

I'm new here too and totally get what you're saying about fear of success. I don't know if there is some weird comfort in fighting the same old fight over and over again, or if it's the fear of the unknown (what would my life be like without my "armor"? Or would people have different expectations of me that I might not be able to meet?), or maybe fear of whatever it is that I'm protecting myself from by being heavy.

The thing to remember I guess is that working on all the non-weight things in our heads is as important as the dieting itself. Without working on both sides of the equation, regaining is sadly inevitable. (In my case, I've got the "preaching" part down pat, it's "practicing" it that I have a problem with!!)

Sure that makes sense. If you've always been one way all your life, it's scary to think about being different, no matter how bad you want it. Change can be tough. You'll meet a lot of nice people here who will sympathize, empathize, and kick your butt when you need it. Welcome!

I have never been one to get past the "honeymoon" phase of any program. I get bored and just quit trying. I think it's great that you are getting back on track. you've done it before, you can do it again!!

VERY!

I think that all of us who have tried and failed (or not succeeded to be more P.C.)
have to know that fear feels like.
It's such an awful feeling.
Great topic though...something we all have to address in order to make it this time.

xoxo
