Talking Just HOW evil is Diet Coke?

Has anyone with a major DC addicition ever quit before?

I'm a DC-aholic. I drink about 6 or 7 a day. I drink about 100 ozs of water as well, but I have read a lot of things that lead me to belive that the 'ol DC may not be aiding in my weight-loss efforts. Actually, I first started REALLY gaining weight when I was in my 20's and started drinking DC.

I love it. I really do.

But I am wondering, has anyone ever quit it and noticed a difference?

And does anyone wanna try and go cold turkey with me?

I don't believe it's a cause of weight gain. Excess amounts might cause water retention, and it might keep a taste for sweets alive. But I really don't believe all the hogwash about diet drinks being a direct cause of fat gain or retention.

I'm totally addicted. Some times nothing in the world is as good as a DC! Its like I'm really feining for the stuff. I've tried to cut back to 2-3 cans a day. some days I can some days I can't. I think the big thing is that it is not good for bones and muscles, it deteriorates them. Flushing out your body with the water is good though. I don't think you'll gain weight from it maybe water weight fromt he sodium.
I dont' think I can go cold turkey with ya but maybe stick to the 2 a day.

I quit the juice.

I was drinking a similar amount, and slowly cut out 1 can a week. I now have it only when out to eat, and rarely at that.

I found that while it didn't make me gain any weight, it sure didn't help me lose it. Right now I am having a hard time losing at all, and every little thing seems to make a difference, including the sodium in the soda.

Good luck! It is a very hard habit to break. But I notice that I feel better without it. Less headaches and stomach cramps, I was getting a headache at least once a day before. I also drink at least 100 oz of water a day. I do miss the diet coke sometimes, so I try to get some sparkling water to help with that.

The juice!!!LOLOLOLOLOLOL!! It totally sounds like when you call it that like we are a buncha winos chugging MD 20/20 or drinking liquified crack cocaine or something. Hee hee. I still wanna hear from people who have kicked the DC and suddenly lost 50 pounds.

DC is the devils drink of choice. My sister calls it the black death. I have given it up, but like a boyfriend who won't commit it keeps worming its way back into my life. I am trying to subsistute with something caffeine free, like cristal lite. I think it does affect weight gain, but that is wildly unscientific.

LOLOLOL.. "The Black Death!".. that is sorta like absinthe, which I believe they call "The Green Fairy."

I adore Absolute vodka tonics. I have been known to swoon over mojitos and champagne bitters. However I can easily give up any of these things when I'm eating properly.. it's the Black Death that lures me back with it's fizzy, bubbly, aspratame-ridden siren song...

I lost 122 pounds while drinking lots of Diet Coke (and coffee) ... Still do, as a matter of fact and I'm coming up on my third anniversary of reaching goal.

But we're all different and if you think Diet Coke is affecting your weight loss, definitely try cutting it out and see if anything changes.

Whether it affects weight loss or not, it'd be good to cut back for all the other reasons (affects bone density etc) plus, who knows what horrible links scientists will figure out down the road? Its not like DC is a natural food!
But...
Sure is good going down!

TBMMF - about drinking more DC. Maybe I can do commercials for DC??

For me at least, it was neutral for weight loss - didn't help and didn't hurt. When I got real with myself and why I was overweight, I realized it was because I ate too many calories and didn't exercise, not because I drank DC.

The way I see it, I've given up SO many other things that anyone who wants me to cut out DC is going to have to pry it out of my cold, dead fingers.

Meg, you have freed me from the guilt, I am scoffing it by the litre, and loving it. Great photo by the way, you have come down a hard road and are very inspirational. I am in the throes of the get real moment, having just come to terms with admitting, that despite being blessed with height I am now really fat! Hard pill. But may be easier to swallow with the DC.

If anything, my decrease in Diet Coke consumption may be to blame for having such a hard time keeping these last 10 pounds off.

I only drink decaf though. Caffeine isn't necessarily a good thing.

I believed all the hype about artificial sweeteners and didn't drink Diet Coke for years. Now I have a more balanced view (helped a lot by our fabulous Mrs Jim) and have it occasionally. I drink it at the pub when I go with my dh (the pub is quite a big part of our lives, the English live in pubs!!!) but no other time, only because I really need to drink more water, and leaving it for the pub makes it more special. The landlady got the lemon diet coke in just for me!!! I like the vanilla diet coke too, especially with vodka in it (hmmmmm think I've missed the point here LOL)
