Default cool clinical trial to check insulin resistance and glucosamine.

http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct/sho...065377?order=1

I've been screened and accepted into this trial. I'm so excited. Unfortunately, (or fortunately) I have to maintain my current weight, eating habits and exercise for the next 3 months.

My doctor suggested I take glucosamine for my arthritis, but I'm too cheap, and this is a great opportunity to see if 1) I am insulin resistant and 2) if glucoscamine would actually help. I'll take a placebo for 6 weeks, then glucosamine for 6 weeks, I won't know which is which until the end. But hey, it sounds interesting.

If anyone is in the DC area, it looks like a cool study and the nurses and doctors are really nice.

Hmmmm.....so the fact that I take glucosamine might be affecting my diabetes? Or else it isn't. Interesting study. I got the impression that taking glucosamine might worsen insulin resistance. Or am I reading it wrong?

That's what they want to find out, the theory is that it might worsen insulin resisitance, so they are doing this study with 60 people to see what happens.

My part of this trial is over. Yeah! I didn't notice a difference when I was taking the placebo or the glucosamine. Of course, it's a double blind study so we don't know what we were taking until after the entire study is over. And I'm definately not insulin resistant. I guess I just eat too much.

I am wanting to lose the last 30 or so pounds this year. I had to keep my weight steady the last 4 months because of the trial and not increase my exercise.

I'm going to do the Prevention train to walk a marathon this year. http://www.prevention.com/category/0...-0-0-0,00.html .

The training schedule was in the April issue. It's pretty easy, slowly increasing the amount of walking so that by the end of 26 weeks we should be able to walk a marathon.

Glucosamine can raise your glucose levels. I just stopped taking it because my levels have gotten pretty high and I'm going to see if they go down w/o using them,

Chinky, let me know if your levels go down. I need to take Glu/Chron/Msm for my joints, but I am diabetic and not sure if I should.
