I'm sure this one has been up before but -- what music or songs inspire you? Which ones get you to want to move? Which ones give you the heart to keep on going? Which ones just plain make you happy?
Hi again... I love Sarah Mclachan music. She writes amazing songs. They make me cry, think, hum and even belly laugh. She seems to know a womans heart... I love to put her Afterglow cd in my walkman and stroll away. Lori
Music is pretty much everything to me, and my taste runs the gamut from punk and classic rock to jazz and R&B and showtunes and anything in between. Just about everything, although I'm not a huge fan of country music.
Most recently, I can't get enough of U2. I've loved them since the very beginning, and their lastest record (How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb) is just delicious. Seriously, I haven't stoppped listening to it since it came out.
Just like satylite, I like a lot of styles. Among them many French singers most of you never heard of. I will then focus on the English repertoire.
Springsteen and Mellencamp are at the top of the list. Their lyrics is a very realistic picture of the average working class hero. What I like most about their songs is the truthfulness we are able to feel.
Peter Gabriel is also among my favourites. Tried so many different musical approaches, from the Genesis era to his last CD “Up” His videos are amazing. I also like his involvement in Human Rights Watch movement. (witness.org)
I grew up to the Sound of U2. If I was to get rid of all my CD’s, but one; the Joshua Tree would remain.
And now on the ladies side:
Sarah Maclachlan have the ability to reach into our deepest emotions. I’ve listen to “Angel” a Zillion times, and it always brings me to my knees.
A few years ago, Jazz was giving me headaches. Listening to the sexy romantic voice of Dianna Krall, I learned how to appreciate this musical style.
I get to bed with Norah Jones very often. Well, she is only present in my headphones, but I like it when I hear “Sunrise, Sunrise, Looks like morning in your eyes…”.
Hey, I like big butts, and I cannot lie! That's one of my fave songs on my IPod workout playlist! I also love most 80s music to work out to -- Duran Duran, New Order, Blondie, The Go-Gos, 80s hip-hop stuff...
Frenchie, try me on the French music. It's actually kind of an interest of mine! Some of my favorites are Serge Gainsbourg (very favorite), Francoise Hardy (can't figure out how to get a cedilla on here), Brigitte Bardot, Edith Piaf. I like some French hip-hop like MC Solaar, too. Do tell!

When I am exercising this whole other person comes sneaking out........I like In Da Club by 50 Cent, Milkshake by Kellis, Lets' Get Loud by Jennifer Lopez, stuff I would never normally listen to. Lately I love the Scissor Sisters for dancing to.
I love all styles of music, from opera, to country, heavy rock to easy listening. My dh and I have an ever growing collection, although my increasing interest in boppy R n B is disturbing him some what!!!
Hey Dragonwoman, my dh has seen Peter Gabriel in concert 3 times, apparently he's fantastic live (I wasn't around then), he is an amazing performer.
I am a U2 fan from way back, and I too adore the Joshua Tree album.

Jen, Glad to hear you like french music. There are so many talented french artists it would be too long to list all my favorites here. PM me if you want to discuss more about this.
I’ts nice to see you like artists and songs that were most popular in the 60’s 70’ One i like about Gainsbourg is “Je t’aime moi non plus” that he perform, i believe with Jane Birkin. There is also a fire camp guitar classic from Francoise Hardy “Tous les garcons et les filles”. “L’Hymne à l’amour” from Edith Piaf will never fade away,as many conteomporary artists made a reprise. I have limited knowledge of MC Solarr. The only thing i know about them is that They were the first french Hip-Hop band to emerge in the early 90’s. If you like French Hip-Hop, you should Listen to “Manau” and their CD “Panique Celtique.” as the tittle say, they merged Hip-hop along with Celtic accents. Very Interesting.
This is for the French from France. There are also very talented Artists from Quebec. Among them i like a lot Richard Desjardins. Paul Piché is also one of Quebec’s icon.
Daniel Lavoie from Manitoba also made a few classics. Zachary Richard who is originary from Louisiana had many hits, both in english and French. Here is a verse from one of his most inspired songs, Coeur Fidèle (faithful heart). I’ll try to translate as best as i can, keeping all the spirit....

many tunes many inspirations in different directions hard fast noisey rave music gets me going for training and fighting on which not i must add that i'm back in training hoping to be in competition for judo in the summer and MMA the end of this year. most inspirational song has to be eye of the tiger we used to play it before all our rugby matches as well as break stuff by limp bizkit just so we were in the right frame of mind to flatten anything that moved
