Default Reasonable Goal??????

Hello all

Okay to preface this - I lost 50 pounds in 9-10 months the year before last on WW. I had a bad year last year and gained 35 back. I am now at 253 --- here is my question ---

my birthday is May 16th. Do you think it a reaosnable goal for myself that I will be down to approx. 230 on my birthday? Or does that seem too much? That would be a little over 20 pounds in 3 months.

Please advise. I am hoping I can do this! I need a goal to get me motivated! Thanks in advance!!!!!!

I've lost just over 25 pounds in 3 months, so I'm sure that's reasonable.

I am generally not in favor of attaching deadlines to weight loss goals. I know that some people find that not having deadlines makes it easy to lose focus, but my experience is that deadlines are counter-productive. Make a goal to lose a certain amount of weight, and DO make those smaller intermediate goals. But, think carefully about the consequences of having a date that you may or may not make, due to factors that may be beyond your control. Our bodies change over time, and respond to weight loss efforts according to schedules beyond our control. If you are embracing this as a permanent lifestyle change rather than a "diet," then losing weight is a side effect of improving your habits and attitudes. Therefore, the rate at which you lose weight is less important than the changes themselves.

I also find that a long term goal for a particular date helps keep me focused and you have set a very reasonable one for yourself. I do think it is important, though, not to treat that particular date as the be all, end all of your progress. Rather, think of it of what you are shooting for, make a plan to get there, and use mini goals to help make sure your progress is on track so that you can make adjustments as necessary.

Sounds reasonable, but make sure you are doing it in a way that you can stick with.
