My bf says the exercise is more important than our diet (we've gotten much healthier in our eating). I know the exercise is important, but I want to focus on what we're eating too. It gets to be a little of a struggle because 1) he doesn't need to lose weight, and 2) he does a lot of the grocery shopping and cooking. He tells me "don't go crazy" and when the weight loss slows down he says to exercise more.
It's a constant negotiation.
