Default Quitters And Losers

Hi! I'm new here and have to say that I love this place! So many of you are so inspiring! I'm 45, and quit smoking on 1-3-05. At the same time, I changed my diet and decided I wanted to lose all of the weight I have gained from trying to quit smoking over the last five years. I'm following just a basic 1200 calorie per day plan and am going to start on my treadmill this week. I'd love to hear from others who have, or would like to quit smoking while trying to lose weight.

I figure that if I can lose 42 lbs and keep it off for almost 6 months now, I should be able to quit smoking right?

Quitters and losers .... I never thought of it like that. I'm a loser and want to be a quitter too.

I gotta tell ya .... I feel like an idiot. D'ya thing the gals at LWL and maintainers read here? They'll think I'm some kind of awful sham.

Susan! FINALLY, one other person in this big ole place that has at least thought about quitting and losing, or maintaining in your case. Congrats on your weight loss!

I have tried to quit smoking a million times during the last five years and it had really gotten to the point where I HAD to quit. I developed asthma for the first time in my life when I had quit for a few months and started up again. I'm just starting my 4th week of not smoking and I'm feeling a lot better. But I'm tired of packing on pounds every time I quit so this time I'm waging a battle against weight gain and am trying to lose at the same time. It will probably take longer than normal but I'm not givin' up.

I've been having this niggling notion lately, that I'll never be 'really, clean and fit' until I ditch this one last habit. I'm still making strides fitness-wise but know in my heart that sooner or later .... shortness of breath or struggling of some sort is going to interfere with some activity I want to do.

I'm really surprised that you and I are the only ones here. I can't believe it. Statistically just not right, doncha think.

Do you suppose that most folks think they should quit smoking first? Shame ...

18 hours, 55 minutes and 47 seconds. 18 cigarettes not smoked, saving $4.17. Life saved: 1 hour, 30 minutes.
