Default Im wondering if anyone has tried....

making meringues with splenda?? Its a perfect protein food, and a sweet treat with very low carbs, if I can use splenda. But Im concerned its the sugar that gives it the right consistency.

Im going to give them a try tomorrow afternoon if I no one has tried it yet.

I'll let you know how they turn out.

Robin

Hmm, I never thought of meringues as protein....just sweet. I would try it with the splenda....or maybe even equal for a treat once in a while. I don't really care for them so I've never made them myself. Goodluck, let us know how it turns out. We love new finds around here

Depending on what phase you're in, you could try the new Splenda for baking. It's splenda blended with sugar. It's twice as sweet as sugar so you only use half as much and it eliminates that artificial sweetener taste. Very good!

Im going to try using splenda and see if they turn out. I thought they might be a nice treat when Im needing something sweet and crunchy.

Anyway, Im going to start in about an hour, and I'll let you know how they turn out.

Ok, I gave them a try and they are delicious!!!!!!!

They work out to about 16 calories, 3 protein, and approx 8 carbs (depending on how much splenda you use) for 6 meringues.

Next time I make them I am going to go and get some coconut extract and only use about 2 tlbs splenda. I found them too sweet.

2 egg whites
1/2 cup splenda. (I used about a 1/4 cup...and even that was too much)
1 tsp vanilla

Beat egg whites on medium speed, gradually add in splenda.
Beat until you can form nice peaks.

Pour in the vanilla and fold into whites gently with spatula.

Bake at 300 for 35 min. Watch for browning...you dont want much if any, but you do want them cooked thru. Turn off oven and let them cool completely on pan in oven (door closed)

Makes 12

Enjoy!!

Thanks for the yummy recipe. I'm going to make them. I love meringues and have bought Hevenly Desserts brand many times. (can't eat too many at once, since they cause gas/bloating) They have lemon and chocolate ones also, so it will be fun to add a little chocolate powder to this recipe.
