Default Yumm......

I'm having some sort of sugar free frozen green tea concoction made with soy milk, I think. It's pretty good. I'll give it about 20 minutes and then test my blood to see what it does to my glucose levels. I test anything called "sugar free" this way to see if it's OK for me to have again (usually it's not).

Wendy, it sounds delicious!

Do you usually find that your blood sugar goes up after some SF foods? I had my mom test this and she never found it up after sugar free things. A couple months ago I had a SF ice cream sandwich and found myself in the throes of a major sugar high/low rush. It was awful! I figure it was the malitol, since that's the only sugar alcohol I had not had, and I haven't eaten anything with it since with no problems since.

Still, my mom swears that it must have been a psychological reaction. What do you think?

beachgal,
I have heard that taste buds or even smell can sometimes set off insulin levels but I'm not sure how extreme. If your body perceives you are about to eat something sweet, it might get the insulin ready for you.

I have found that it goes up sometimes even if the item says sugar free. It's not so bad with stuff I buy at the store, but like if I go to a Starbucks type place that claims to have sugar free drinks or smoothies, etc., I usually find that my sugar jumps way up.

This green tea thing I had didn't make my sugar go up at all, and it was very refeshing. I got it from a Vegan carry out near my job - all their stuff is pretty healthy, although not necessarily OP. But this was great and the green tea was actually in almost a paste form and the guy scooped it out of a jar. And you could see little bits of it in the drink after he blended it up with the soy milk and ice.

Hmmm, now I'm thinking I might go get one, lol

OK, I just went and got one and it has soy milk, pure green tea powder, a tiny bit of sf vanilla syrup, and ice all blended together. He'll also add fruit for more flavor but I opted to go without. It's very tasty and refeshing
