Default LCFS week of March 21st

Good morning,
Hope everything is going well for you all and that the sun is shining your way

Last week, someone said they didn't know how to start a new thread. I'm not too sure if this is the easiest way, but since they redid the boards here, it's the only way I know of, if someone else knows an easier way, let me know
You have to go to the top of this page and click on the link that takes you back to the page that is titled Low Carb! It's where the titles of all the threads are. At the top of all the thread titles is a tab that says new thread and that's where you click. Then when you start a new thread, don't forget to put a title on it

I used my exercise bike 3 times yesterday. It really does help having it setting out where you trip over it. I put it in the livingroom, rather than the exercise room. That room is so full of exercise equipment, I can barely exericise in there. We do use most of it, but that eliptical machine isn't for me. DH says he is planning on using it, but he hasn't yet, so all it is is somthing I keep hitting every time I try to work out with my Slim in 6 tape. By the way, those tapes are great for the whole body, but you really feel it in the legs. Lots of leg work. I'm trying to do a little more of that first tape everyday.

Have a great Sunday, I think I'll make DH some breakfast, Nikki

Goodmorning All: Thanks Nikki that was me who ddidn't know how to start a new thread. If fact I have been surfin the boeards to see if somebody had posted a how to we I got notice of a message. I never got notice of any of your posts from yesterday. I don't make breakfasts Nikki, Always though the week everyone was on their own and on Saturday also. On sundays DH has always done a brunch. When the kids were at home it was planned for 11 o'clock and we woke the kids up if they were still sleeping. Even after DS moved out he appeared at the door every sunday with the sunday papers and Tim Horton coffee's. Apparently he now grocery shops during brunch time now that we have moved. DIL doesn't eat breakfast and says Joel is lost on sunday's. We are getting very strong winds today, in fact they woke me up!! Yep, I slept all night except for a bathroom break. I hope I have turned the corner and can go back to my old sleep patterns, though they weren't perfect at least I could go on with my days feeling a lot better than I am now. Read about crocus's with fondness. I am from Saskatchewan, a area called the Qu'Appelle valley and remember the crocus's so well. It was the sign of spring. Here we get trillium's and they are also the provincial flower. I had a coffee grinder given to me but I left it at the trailer. It has never been used so I am going to use it and buy good coffee. At the trailer we are 30 min. from the nearest town ( and Tim Horton") so miss good coffee. DH and I make our coffee seperately. He uses a coffee maker and I use a press. We use bottled water for coffee also. Sugar our neighbour racks his leafs into piles all over his yard but doesn't pick them up. The wind sends them our way. Last fall we had over 90 bags of leaves for pick up. and I'm sure half of them were his. Next door is a rental cottage so they won't be back next fall I hope. Water levels are good right now. DD found a Brittiny spanial at the Hamilton SPCA. She is approx. 2 years looks cute. DD phoned and she is not nutured and has epilepsey (?). I am going to research canine epilepsey after I finish here. She was picked up Mar 2 running loose with what they called her sister who has been adopted.already. I can't beleive the SPCA doesn't neuter daos. The humane society neuters all aninals before they can be adopted plus all shots are up to date for 200.00. The SPCA Doesn't and they charge 288.00. Havn't have the nerve to say anything to DH But would really like to see her. We will have to see. Anne, how are you? How are the kids and DH? Has your Mom had anymore problems? How is your Dad, no word from Princess Margaret's? Hope you and Dh had a good day yesterday. Hope is to busy to "bug" you next week also. Aleka I would never pay for a license for Coco I considered it a money grab. Coco had her tag from the vet plus her collar had her name and phone # on it if she got loose. That was one tax I never paid, why it bugs me so I don't know. Well off to check on the Brittiny spanials, all of you have a great day

Talking

Hello..

We had snow and freezing rain over night, but the sun is shining and everything is melting. When you look out the front windows it looks like it's pouring outside because of all the water coming off the roof, then it hits the little deck and it splashes up onto the screens. It is supposed to get cold again by tomorrow.

Later this morning I'm off to have lunch with a cousin who doesn't live very far from me. We try to meet at least 3 or 4 times a year. BJ's is just a hop skip and a jump from where we are having lunch, so I'm going to pop over there to see if they have Suzanne Somers' new book. I watched HSN last night, as there was nothing else better on TV, and she and Colleen are very entertaining. They were selling her book and it really does sound interesting. Hope they have it.

I saw a column in our local Sunday paper that I wanted to pass along. The columnist had a little terrier dog, who they used to let out in the wee hrs. of the morning, while it was still rather dark. One morning the dog didn't come home like it should have. To make a long story short, the dog was attacked by a coyote. She also mentioned that another woman watched helplessly as a coyote carried off her dead Jack Russell Terrier. She warned people not to let any small animal out loose, by itself, when it's dark, always keep an eye on them. This columnist, and also the woman who lost her Jack Russell live near a city. I don't know if any of you have coyotes in your area or not. Just wanted to let you know of the danger.

nikki, the dog you inherited from your dad does sound like it was very special. My parents lived through the depression also and that was probably why I had to clean my plate at mealtimes when I was a toddler. I can remember my parents praising me when I finished my meal, making me feel like I did something very special. But, if I didn't or couldn't eat it all, they made me feel like I had let them down in some way. I have read that exercising in short spurts 3 or 4 times a day is the best way to lose fat. That's wonderful that you like your exercise bike so much.

Sugar, we have a reverse osmosis water system that we had to put in for our drinking water when we bought our house. According to new guidelines, we had too much nitrate in our water. When the house was built 3 yrs. before we bought it, the well was fine, but government standards change. There was a filtering system when we bought the house. Now we have Culligan come and service the tanks every few months. So, we have pure drinking water, and that's what we use when we make coffee. By the way, had a great cup of coffee this morning. We have a Gloria Jeans in the southern part of our state. We usually buy our coffee and BJ's or Sam's Club. We get Millstone and/or whatever BJ's brand is. They really are good. We use Colombian and Costa Rican coffee. We have a New England gourmet coffee company, Green Mountain, that has fantastic flavors. My very favorite is Southern Pecan. On Sun. mornings, we always have that flavor and DH adds some cinnamon to it. As a matter of fact, that's what we had this morning.

ANNE, how is your weekend going?

lynn, have you inquired about that dog? I was going to suggest that you try getting an older dog since your DH thinks so strongly against getting another dog at 50+. DH & I were over 50 when we got Lacee. After training her to do her duties outside, I realized that I just cannot do it again. If we ever do get another dog, which I seriously doubt, I would get an older dog. Good luck to you in your search. Please let us know how it goes. We have to get a dog license. Many years ago when we had 2 Boston Terriers at one time, we hadn't licensed them because they never roamed the neighborhood nor went out very much...just to do their duties, then they'd come right back inside. One night we got a phone call from the police dept. asking why the dogs weren't licensed and we could pay a hefty fine if we didn't get them licensed. They saw the Vet regularly for their shots and whatever else ailed them. There has been some talk about licensing cats, but there I would've balked because every cat we had was an indoor cat.

Hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Good morning, ladies,

Aleka, that is a terrible thought about the little terrier. We live in front of a large pasture and small lake, just at the edge of town. There are all sorts of things come through the yard...a fed fox, deer, raccoons, etc. I never let the girls out without our being with them. The only night adventures they have are, if we have been gone someplace and come home, they like to run out the front door and take a quick tinkle...but only with the porch light on!!! Unless they get taller and can reach the light switch in the living room, I doubt if they would ever be able to be unattended!!!

We all seem to love quality coffee. Do any of you put whipping cream in it? Or am I the only naughty soul?

Glad you are sleeping again, Lynn. It really improves one's day to rest at night. It tickles me that your DH is so concerned about getting a pet at "your ages"...55+. We got Lucianne (9 months old) exactly one week after DH had his 75th birthday! Rosalee was added two months later. We have had them now for over 5 years and have never regretted a moment, even though Yorkies live well into 13+ years normally. I am only 60+ and DH comments sometimes that the girls will take care of me if anything happens to him! I always tell him to forget about any trips into the great beyond until many more moons have passed. We have always laughingly planned to take a huge cruise to some exotic ports and slip off the bow of the ship after the last midnight buffet! Maybe we should add, just after the girls have gone to their Rainbow Bridge to wait for us. I am sure one of our kids would love to take either or both of their sisters. In fact, we have a son and daughter who would probably fight over them.

Nikkic, I know your dad's dog was special to you. As I said, Mr. Wilbur Mills' death was a "goodbye again" to our daughter...even though he lived many years after she was killed.

Aleka, If you get the SS book, give us a review about what is in it please. I am wondering if it has any food tips as well as just hormone talk.

What is BJ's?

Off to church now. Will check in later.

Fuuny thing I just got off the Mississauga Humane sight and found 2 older dogs I like. There is a 8 year old female that sounds perfect for us. Am going to get DD to have a look. Mississuaga doesn't have kennels, they foster their dogs out with families and you meet the dogs in their foster homes and are observed by the foster families with the animal and their comments go a long way towards you being allowed to adopt the animal. Isn't that so cool!!! also that is were we got Coco 14 years ago. I am going to go a copy and paste her comments here let me know if you think I am nuts.

Here is her write-up
Judy - I am a 8 yrs old Malamute/German Shepherd cross, female, 85 bs. I got the best of both breeds - sensitive, intelligent, affectionate and loyal, and a good watchdog. My foster parents describe me as "a mature, quiet and well behaved dog with no bad habits at all and is perfect in every way, and would takes treats gently from your hand, knows the basic commands and walks well off the leash." I love my walkies and also car rides. I get along fine with large male dogs, but would probably chase a young or small, active dog! I would do best as a companion for an older dog in a quiet family, or as the only pet for a mature single person or older couple. Rescued August 22th 2003. Contact Andrea at 905-986-0276 before 8 p.m. or email: [email protected].

HI again,
Lynn, ooohhhh, Judy sounds like a winner. What a wonderful program too. I was going to say about the epilepsy, you would probably have to give that dog medication daily and it could become expensive, so check out the cost of the medication first before considering her. Also, she may not be seizure free even with medication and that can be problematic. Not that she wouldn't be a terrific dog, just look into it closely before you chose a dog that has health problems and know everything that your getting into.
Don't worry about typo's, spelling doesn't count here

Aleka, I saw SS new book at Walmart. I don't think I'll get it, after reading about it on the HSN boards. Please give us your take on it when you get it, I don't usually agree with those posters over there anyway
We have coyotes here and in the winter, they howl right outside of our house. In the summer when there is more food available, they stay farther out in the country. We have 2 outside cats now and in the winter, I keep them locked in the garage at night. The old female, Patches, is around 16 or 17 and has no desire to wander out at night. Tony, the male, is around 7 or 8 and he does like to prowl at night. Apparently, they have learned how to avoid being eaten so far. Tony protects the yard from other stray cats. If I tried to keep him in in the summer, he'd go nuts. I know there is the risk of losing him. But there are all kinds of threats to his welfare out there. West Nile virus, coyotes, poisons, cars. He's already gone through 15 of his nine lives, he's a tough old tom cat. I appreciate the warning though. I've seen coyotes face to face and they have the most intelligent look in their eyes. They are very beautiful and proud, in their own way.
I never got my dogs licensed either. The police around here aren't that concerned with dogs or dog licenses. We don't have a humane shelter. It's upsetting to see so many strays wandering around, starving to death.

Sugar, I love whipping cream. I love it so much, I can't have it. I always think, "OK, I'll just have 2 tbs a day." Then I buy it and by the end of the day, I'm standing at the fridge with the door open, drinking it out of the carton. It is just tooo goood! So you see, your not naughty at all, I'm the naughtiest when it comes to whipped cream.

Oh, I did the whole Slim in 6 tape today! It was hard, but I kept on doing just one more move until I did all of it. I feel so good about it

Anne, hope your doing well and that your enjoying a restful weekend,

Take care, Nikki

Nikki: Judy doesn't have epilepsy, it was the brittiny spanial that had it. Also she hadn't been fixed but Judy had. Nobody picks up strays? They would be better off put down and left tp the elements!!!! That is awful in this day and age.

Lynn,
Sorry about that. I didn't explain myself clearly. Sometimes on these boards, I get in such a rush to answer, I don't always say what I'm thinking. I should have said to check into the springers health closely. I did know what you meant, you just didn't know what I meant, so we're both on the right page now
Are you considering Judy then? She really does sound like the perfect dog. I use to have a german shepard and you never met a more loyal, intelligent dog. She wanted to please me all the time. Then, I had a part collie and part german shepard and I thought she was an even better dog. She had the best of both breeds. So, to me, Judy sounds like a real prize. Plus, she's already trained and that means a lot.
Good luck to you Nikki

That's okay Nikki. One of the reasons I still prefer qick post even though it has no icons is I can refer back to previous posts. The old memory being as bad as it is. Yes I am I just have to tackle Dh. I will need lots of luck.

Lynn,
You can refer to old posts on the other reply too. You just have to scroll down the page. Under the additional options box, is a title that says topic review and on the right hand side it says either expand or collapse with a red arrow pointing up or down. If it's collapsed, you won't see the other posts, it will say expand, click on that and it will show all the previous posts.

Good luck with your DH

Smile

A good morning to you all,

I did get Suzanne's book and will let you know how it is. I saw some posts on HSN's bulletin board that there are a few pages for women who live in rural areas who don't have access to all these specialists, as to what they can do themselves.

lynn, Judy sounds like a wonderful dog. Have you seen her yet? Let us know how things develop On my computer I just use the scroll bar to the right and scroll down the page and the posts are there, below Additional Options.

nikki, good for you on finishing the Slim in 6 tape. Are you able to move today? I don't agree with most of the posters on the HSN board. Some of them can get very nasty though, can't they? I go in there occasionally, mostly when Suzanne is on just to see what they're saying about her. Actually it's been pretty tame lately. I agree with Lynn about the stray dogs. The police should do something about them instead of letting them suffer like that. Is there an ASPCA or any type of animal shelter in another town that is close to you?

Sugar, BJ's is a wharehouse type club like Sams's Club and Cosco. DH & I belong to both Sam's & BJ's. BJ's is closer to us than Sam's. When we let Lacee outside she is on a lead that is tied to a post on our front stairs, always have the outdoor light on at night, and in better weather we're always standing out there with her, in the winter months we stand in front of the storm door so that she's never out of our sight. The only time I've ever put whipped cream on my coffee is when I've had an Irish Coffee. Except, there is a gourmet coffee shop called The Beanery. They are few and far between, if they are still in business. They have this caramel coffee drink with whipped cream and all that is to die for. It tastes like dessert, and I'm sure 3 days worth of calories.

ANNE, hope your weekend was nice and hope you have a good work week and that will be occupied so you can have a peaceful week.

Have a good day everyone.

Good Morning All:
Hope you all enjoyed your weekends...Goes soooo fast
Lynn, it is freezing here today!! Can you believe it?
It is going to start warming up on Tuesday. My dad is fine. He finds
this weather hard because of his emphysema. He does well though with
everything he has been through these last 16 + years he still is not on
oxygen.
Lynn, I have insomnia too. Especially on Sunday nights. Wonder why!

Nikki, have you been on the body flex board lately? Sherri has a new picture
posted with red hair. She looks wonderful.

Aleka, freezing rain thats my worst nightmare. Hope you enjoyed your
lunch at BJ's. I am taking Friday off this week and going out for lunch with
my DH. Can't make up mind what kind of food though. I may go to the
Manderin for the chinese buffet I also love good fish n chips.
(I'm being very naughty)

Sugar I am a coffee drinker too. Nothing but whipping cream and splenda in
mine. Its on my program though not that I have been too great these last weekends

Hope you all have a great Monday. Two of my sons are coming in to visit
me at work today to see the new cash office. I am hoping and praying doesn't come by. She will be if she sees anyone
but Tanya and I here.
Anne.

Hello again...
My cousin sent me this poem and I wanted to share it with all of you. Also, I was watching Good Morning America this morning and there is a dog lovers website, www.dogster.com The dog of the day is sooo cute, but I believe I'm a little prejudice.

Perceptions;

When an old lady died in the geriatric ward of a small hospital near
Dundee, Scotland, it was felt that she had nothing left of any value. Later,
when the nurses were going through her meager possessions, they found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital.

One nurse took her copy to Ireland.

The old lady's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the
Christmas edition of the News Magazine of the North Ireland Association for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made based on her simple, but eloquent, poem. And this little old Scottish lady, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this "anonymous" poem winging across the Internet.

What do you see?
What are you thinking,
when you're looking at me?

A crabby old woman, not very wise,
uncertain of habit, with faraway eyes?

Who dribbles her food and makes no reply,
when you say in a loud voice, "I do wish you'd try!"

Who seems not to notice the things that you do,
and forever is losing a stocking or shoe.....

Who, resisting or not, lets you do as you will,
with bathing and feeding, the long day to fill....

Is that what you're thinking?
Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse;
you're not looking at me.

I'll tell you who I am as I sit here so still,
as I do at your bidding, as I eat at your will.

I'm a small child of ten ... with a father and mother,
brothers and sisters, who love one another.

A young girl of sixteen, with wings on her feet,
dreaming that soon now a lover she'll meet.

A bride soon at twenty -- my heart gives a leap,
remembering the vows that I promised to keep.

At twenty-five now, I have young of my own,
who need me to guide and a secure happy home.

A woman of thirty, my young now grown fast,
bound to each other with ties that should last.

At forty, my young sons have grown and are gone,
but my man's beside me to see I don't mourn.

At fifty once more, babies play round my knee,
again we know children, my loved one and me.

Dark days are upon me, my husband is dead;
I look at the future, I shudder with dread.

For my young are all rearing young of their own,
and I think of the years and the love that I've known.

I'm now an old woman ... and nature is cruel;
'Tis jest to make old age look like a fool.

The body, it crumbles, grace and vigour depart,
there is now a stone where I once had a heart.

But inside this old carcass a young girl still dwells,
and now and again my battered heart swells.

I remember the joys, I remember the pain,
and I'm loving and living life over again.

I think of the years .... all too few, gone too fast,
and accept the stark fact that nothing can last.

So open your eyes, people, open and see,
not a crabby old woman; look closer ... see ME!!

Remember this poem when you next meet an old person who you might brush aside without looking at the young soul within... We will one day be there, too!

SHARE THIS POEM......... ITS SOMETHING WE ALL NEED TO REMEMBER!!!
