Smile Newbie here!

I just started Ideal Protein yesterday. So far, I had a small cheat yesterday and today. For dinner I went to a Mexican place with a friend, and got grilled chicken with salsa and steamed zucchini, but there were 3 tortilla chips sticking out of the top of the chicken which I ate...but didn't have the basket, no queso, no burrito wraps, anything, so I wasn't that upset about the three chips there. Otherwise, followed the diet to the T for the day. This morning I had the chocolate pancakes (yum) but did do a small dollop of the sugar-fat-free 20 cal per dollop cool whip. I sure hope these two little variations aren't going to blow it.

I am getting the IP products from a doctor who lives about an hour away (he's actually my best friends brother) and need to get in my food order for week 2. What are everyone's favorites?

Thanks!!!

You might not like how the diet works for you if you start little cheats already....I was on this for three months before, and the more you stay ton OP, the better your body will reward you...

What a week! I went in for Jury duty on Tuesday and was selected that afternoon. Every night I was finishing a ppt for our trivia nite that was last night. (Had actually planned on working on the ppt at work for a few hours each day but...jury duty!)

Wed, Thurs, Fri for trial. Jury deliberations started about 2:30 Fri and we had a verdict about 4:45. It was a civil case - eminent domain. Our county government was taking land someone was leasing to them on an airport property. Of course the 2 parties were MILLIONS of dollars apart.

We ended up acting as "arbitrators" and finding what we considered a happy medium between the two extremes (but many of us actually thought the land owners should have been asking for double what they really asked us for).

Okay, enough off-IP subject:
The good thing is this: 2 days the judge brought treats for the jury (donuts/cheesecake). I had IP-appropriate food with me (Quest bar, P1 lunch, refillable Brita water bottle, IP vanilla RTD poured in a bottle to use for coffee creamer). Not only did I not have the treats. I didn't WANT them. I wasn't fighting in my mind over having them or not.

This is the piece for me that I believe staying 100% OP for so long has done for me. It removed the desire & the inner negotiations (to have or not have?). Since I stuck to the sheet, there were few choices. Now, faced with them, I choose to eat in the manner that makes me feel the best (starchy carbs puff up my hands & feet ).

After being on IP so long, I wasn't even tempted. I DID choose to go out to lunch Tuesday with DH who works in the courts bldg & Wed/Fri with the jurors. Just needed a break from the confined space.

There is something to be said for making IP a way-of-life. The day they went for sushi, I ate the lunch I brought (I prefer to eat only wild-caught fish, which is difficult to find in restaurants). The other days I had salads topped with protein. Since I'm on P4, I have a little more leeway with my salads/dressings. But I also discovered the salad I had yesterday was SO flavorful, it didn't even need the dressing I'd ordered on the side. The chicken was well seasoned. It was probably one of the best restaurant salads I'd ever had.

Long story longer : Making IP a way-of-life for many months helped me learn how to handle major changes in my routine but to stay OP. Food decisions I'm making today are still so simple. I'm not deciding whether or not to have the things that made me fat in the first place. I just don't. Even on "fun" days (which none of these were), it is becoming more like a fun meal or a fun-food-choice-items within that meal - rather than a hog-wild "world is my oyster" attitude.

At this point, my food avoidance is about keeping the inflammation under control. I notice it immediately in my hands & feet if I eat starches. I'm glad this happens. It is a not-so-gentle reminder to take it easy.

Good morning all: I had my week 13 weigh-in today. The good news is that their fancy scale showed I lost fat and gained a little muscle - yay! (I have started some light toning exercises every day) I know those scales aren't super accurate but I will take it!

The actual scale loss was really small (but still a loss)...and while it is a little bummer, I am choosing not to focus on that one measure. This is a long term journey about my health and my future. I am proud of my long term progress - 37.7 pounds gone - in a little over 3 months. Sweet!

I hope you all have a great weekend.

IP POWER to all! You can do it!

Hello everyone. I'm just checking in after 14 days in the hospital and a weeks recovery at home due to a bowel obstruction. Prior to this interruption to my life I had lost 40 lbs now i'm at 52 but I'm a bit lost on what to eat. I need to return to carbs for healing yet I do not wish to gain weight. Everyone says yeah but you lost 12 lbs in the hospital eating nothing you can afford to gain a couple. I'm finding as I eat "whatever" i'm lost. I miss the security of knowing what I can and cannot eat. Phase 4 is very vague.. and I still have weight to lose.......what to do. A week of eating whatever has me feeling yuky. SO today I go back on IP products thinking I add healthy carbs and more meat like phase 3 and 4.
I know some of you have been through medical issues and have had to heal and go off HELP PLEASE, all thoughts and direction would be greatly appreciated!!!

I'm miss this diet I loved it and it worked so well for me but it's not healthy for me to be on phase 1 right now. As a matter a fact it is wondered if the fast weight loss and my shrinking is what made the old scar tissue adhear to the bowel. Don't ya love how people want to find a way to make a negative out of your success LOL LOL..

If you read all this thank you, and any advise would be greatly appreciated!!!

I had surgery the first time on IP and did phase 3 for 4 weeks after to promote healing. Tough to heal on phase 1. Can your bowel obstruction handle phase 3 right now? The breakfasts are a bit big.

I don't think so unless I spread it over hours eating it. I've been eating 2 fried eggs on one piece of whole wheat toast, that is all I can handle.

Did you gain weight during that 3 to 4 weeks?
Did you then go back to phase 1 ?

Thank you for sharing!

How about the alternative Phase 1? It was designed for people who have medical issues who can't be on strict P1 (example: diabetes).
The sheet is available in the stickies.
Conventional wisdom says we need starchy carbs, but we really don't. For your healing, however, I see you probably need to limit fiber.
You don't lose as fast on Alt P1 but healing should be the priority at this point, anyway.

I may have gained a couple but there is so much fluid shifting over that time that it is hard to tell. It certainly wasn't a huge amount of gain. I did return to phase 1 afterward.

Whatever you do, don't push the quantity. Listen to your body. You don't want to obstruct again.

Good morning all. I am sorry to hear that some are struggling with health issues and cheats, etc. For those who have been unwell - I am sending you healing thoughts. Pay attention to your body, listen to your physicians and get your rest. This diet will be here when you get back on your feet - it is better to take care of yourself. Just make healthy life choice now that you may not be able to be OP.

As for cheats, even little ones. I know there are a lot of thoughts on this, hence the 100%-ers and the 90%-ers. I haven't weighed in on this - until now. I felt, going through P1, that it was too expensive and too fragile to cheat. To me, 3 chips or a little drink or whatever, where not worth it. Not worth the pain getting into ketosis. Not worth the money lost possibly kicking myself out of ketosis. More importantly, it was not worth sabotaging my dedication, desire and efforts to do this diet - and remove the weight. My 2 cents.

With that, I am on Day 3 of P3 and loved my breakfast. I have let the food settle and am off for a run. Hugs and love to you all.

kcdoe: I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles - no fun at all! I agree with Lisa, your healing comes first so take good care of yourself.

I had hernia surgery about 4 weeks ago (had to have some other work done at the same time) and the doc put me on a low fiber diet to help with the healing. My coach and doc agreed I needed extra protein to promote healing so I upped my intake to 3 unrestricted and 1 restricted a day prior to surgery and then after surgery I continued that since I really didn't feel like eating. I'm back to 3 packs a day and slowly increasing my fiber.

My doctor was fine with the low carbs before, during and after surgery. This is just my experience, be sure to follow what your doctor says - we want you back and healthy as soon as possible!
