Default Newbie here.

I'm John and I've been on this fitness journey since January 18, 2011. That day is engrained because I had a doctor's appointment that well, let's just say didn't go well. I weighed 272 and my bp was 155/110. Not good for a 30 year old. Fast forward- I'm now about 155 ish and my bp was like 106/70 last time and my resting heart rate was around 47. BUT, I'm struggling so hard right now. It feels like a switch has been flipped. My super regimented self who could turn down the sweetest treat/crustiest pastry/cheesiest pizza just wants to eat. I thought it was all the recipes on Pinterest or the season's change. I'm still exercising like normal, even started running in my neighborhood. Has this happened to you guys? I'm terrified of my old habits. HELP!

Hey John, sorry it's so quiet over here in the men's corner. I can't speak for any of the other guys here but i would have to say i also have the want to eat sweets and stuff every now and then. All that i really do to keep my self going is making sure that if i do have to have a treat I make sure to work it into my allowed calories for the day and make sure to only eat it in moderation.

Hey John,

Here is a trick I picked up that worked well for me. It sounds silly, but it worked.

Every time I get the urge to eat a sweet, I squirt a shot of lemon juice in my mouth. (I literally carry a small little bottle) I didn't just make this up, it actually has scientific backing.

The reason it helps is first off, it lowers your body's insulin response to a rapid rush of sugar. Insulin spikes have been proven to be a major culprit of weight gain. This is usually the weight gain or lack or weight loss problem for people that feel like they are doing things right.

Also, on a psychological level it makes your brain associated your urge for a sweet with a bitter sour taste. This really makes that urge to taste something sweet diminish over time.

I know it sounds pretty silly, but it really does work. And, it broke my sweets "addiction."
