Red face ~*~July Chat Thread~*~

Anyone up for a July chat thread? July 2nd is nearly over here, and I'm ready to step back into chatting with the lovely people I've gotten to know and say hi to some new faces as well!

Hope to see some people around

I'm hoping I'm back on a bit of a downwards trend again...too soon to tell yet, but I stopped my running drought and went last night. I hadn't been since June 10th and it was HARD. After the first 7 minutes I slowed down to cross a road and basically felt like I was either going to spew or pass out. I had to walk for a while longer than normal in there... eek.

Guess that will teach me not to take such a long break again!!

I can't believe it's july already!

I'm kinda starting over (again again AGAIN ARG). Had to go back to the UK on short notice to visit my grandmother who isnt doing so well, got back last week and thought I better get back on the bandwagon. I am totally not sure whether I am going to make it for the marathon in November, it is just too soon and my training and eating has been too inconsistent. Plus the pressure of being ready in time makes me freak out lol. So I think maybe I will put that on the backburner and just try to focus on doing what I can. I think I fall into the trap of "well, when I was at my thinnest and fittest, I was running 10k a day at leat and eating this much!", forgetting that I am at least 10kg heavier than I was and a lot less fit. Which is really hard to accept! Anyways.

Good on you rainbow, getting back into the running (running outside in this cold? madness!). Running is so hard to get back into!

Icon Ugh, I feel you. It is cold but once you're out for 5 minutes you warm up pretty quick! Sorry to hear about your grandmother, hope she is ok...
Don't put too much pressure on yourself, I think the pressure is what sometimes leaves us giving in!

Hey guys! Glad I found this thing. I've been putting up posts but I can never seem to really connect with anyone.

It's super exciting you're both getting back into the swing of things! I just started up again a few weeks ago. My husband's in the Army and with his PT training 5 days a week I felt like a lazy slob lol, so I got myself off the couch and I've been pushing ever since. I'm finally starting to see results (slow and steady!), especially with my running. And now, I'm working on a 5k training plan...hoping to actually run a 5k race this November!

Do you guys have training goals for your running? I agree with you both that it's really hard to do...and even harder to keep up with. I'm in the middle of week 4 and I just now am starting to (sorta kinda) enjoy my runs.

Icon I don't have any suggestions I'm sorry! I wish I could think of something fun. Zumba? It's kind of died off a bit. Don't do crossfit. Please. Haha.

cdavidowsky Hey there! Slow and steady results are definitely better than none. I am totally on the slow train at the moment haha. Cool to hear you're enjoying your running! It's such a good feeling!!

~So I haven't managed to get a run in since my one on Monday night - weather, working late, feeling average - a million excuses. Tonight it won't happen either as I'm going to have dinner with some friends (and my boyfriend's parents haha, a little odd, but all good). My weight at least is nearly at my pre-running break low. I've been a steady 62.4kg (137.6lbs) for the past two days, so I'm feeling at least a little positive that not running hasn't done me too much damage.

I was actually reading something about exercise, and running in particular, slowing down weight loss but improving the overall appearance of your body - but I'm such a sucker for numbers, I want to see them going down and I'm not disciplined enough to remember to measure myself often enough!

Oh well. This weekend my sister has a joint birthday party with her husband, including build your own tacos and icecream sundaes... uh oh. Should be good though, and I know she won't make the taco stuff too unhealthy so as long as I can reign it in a bit, I should be ok!

Happy Independence Day to those in that area of the world!!

rainbow Nice on the weigh in. I can't wait to see smaller numbers this month

Hello everyone!

So I finished the month long stint in Orlando and am home finally, Back to eating right and running consistently. I am still 165 so I am aiming to be in the 150s by mid august at the latest. Hopefully sooner than that. I went to try on jeans and came back with the knowledge that I am a 12. blurg. I temember being in 10s and almost 8s just a couple of years ago. Oh well gonna get back at it soon. My goal is a size 6 or low waist 30 that I was pre baby.
Hope you are having a good day

cdavidowsky- Sorry you've struggled a bit with the site! It can take a bit of navigating lol. The weekly chat is usually one of the most active threads though, you should be in good hands here. That's exciting for your 5k! I'm supposed to be doing a 42.195k run in early november (i'm completely f***ed lol)

rainbow- ugh zumba kinda makes me want to die a little bit. What's wrong with crossfit? I think I cross train at the moment (just not to the EXTREME like crossfit is supposed to right?) Good job on the weigh in! I'm sure about that stuff on exercise slowing down your weight loss (otherwise why are anorexics, who compulsively exercise, so thin hmm?)- but I do know that when you are training for a marathon you dont tend to lose weight because you are supposed to be fueling your body enough to, well, run a marathon. Maybe thats what they were getting at? Tacos and ice cream sound so good...

sun- sounds nice to be home! how old is your baby?

Nothing much happening over here. I found a website that looks really awesome for snacks though (much as I love snacking and grazing, I struggle to find good snacks I can take to work!) www.snackpack.co.nz, and last night I caved and ordered their tea and amazeballs pack to try it out. Cant wait for delivery on Monday! Still thinking about new hobbies...maybe archery? I know it is all in vogue now, but I've wanted to do it since I was 13 (cant remember why I didnt, since we had it at school), and its something hubby and I could do together as well. Thinking, thinking

IC - Holy moly! Good luck on that 42-whatever k! That sounds...not fun lol. I'm sure you'll do great though. I was thinking for your new goal or hobby that you want to take up...do you want it to be running? Maybe you can take a spin class or do some yoga instead. New things for your body always boost the weight loss too

rainbow - Best of luck on the party this weekend. Stay strong!! And thank you for the Independence Day wishes. What's that thing on running you were reading about in regards to slowing down weight loss?? Because I think it's true lol. I can see my body getting more toned and losing inches, but the weight is barely dropping at all! I'll have to look into that more.

~~ So today's Independence Day in the US (Woohoo!) That, of course, means a ton of unhealthy food at cookouts and parties all weekend long. And we all know what that means....time to test my willpower! It's easy when I have total control over what I'm making, but we're having hot dogs and bratwurst at my friend's cookout today, and another one of my friends is bringing tons of desserts. I'll be sure to get a workout in before I go so I don't feel as bad! Tomorrow's a run day too, so I'll be making up for it (yeay intervals!) lol

My husband also got us free tickets to a rodeo for Friday evening. I've never been to one, so I'm actually really excited about it!! It's one of the things I want to do while I live in Texas, and now I get to!! I'll let you guys know how it is.

iconised My daughter is 4 gonna be 5 in sept. Archery sounds fun! Do it!

cd I feel you on the food options today . hehe

So I had a fun day partying with friends. Good food and pool and volleyball. I didn't play but swam with by girl. She loves water and had a great time. DId not run today but am planning on one tomorrow evening. Worked in the garden today so had some exercise. My tomatoes got blight while I was in Orlando! Boo, I took them out and put new ones in that I can watch and make sure that they don't get blight. Hope you all had a fun day.

Heyo everyone!

I've currently been on plan this week since I'm hosting the 20 day challenge. It's been a struggle here and there, especially when I pass vending machines all the time with coke. But I have resisted!

I went for a run on Wednesday for the first time in ages and it was great! Feel like my knees are more tender since I was running on pavements/hills/stairs but I really enjoyed it. I'm using Zombies, run! which is a fun app so it makes me want to go running so I can progress the story and collect items to build my town. My friend invited me to her place last minute yesterday, so I had to abandon my run which I was quite upset about! But I figured socialising is probably better, and I can fit in my workouts this weekend (trying to work out at least 3 x a week).

Today I hit up Body Revolution and wasn't feeling my usual lethargic self so had a good workout. I also had a healthy lunch at home on a weekend which is RARE, so I'm proud of that. Although I'm getting really sick of salads haha. Starting to actually feel my gag reflex kick in, it's that bad =/. Any suggestions to make salads a bit more tastier without adding unhealthy ingredients?

My weight shot back up to the 158 range but after a day of drinking water and eating right I went back down to 156 lbs. I'll be super happy when I stop seeing the same range of numbers, it's been a long time since I've seen 155 and lower!

rainbow - Yeah, I found being a runner means the numbers go down very gradually. It was weird, when I was running consistently and I stopped for a few days the weight would just fly off me it seemed! Or it would stay the same for a long time despite doing nothing. There are pros and cons to everything! Remember to focus on build your own taco day...that can be dangerous! You can do it!

sun - Sounds like your having fun and being active at the same time, awesome stuff! Don't put too much pressure on yourself to lose a weight at a certain time, I found it didn't work! But it's good to set goals so hey ho, whatever works for you!

cdavid - How are you doing with all the food?? This time is a test for all those in America! Sounds like you have lots of fun things lined up! When I was running consistently I followed the Hal Higdon 10K training guide and I would time myself on my runs and write them down on a print out of the guide. Then I would push myself to run faster each week, especially on the shorter runs in the week. When I would beat a time, I felt epic and wanted to go running to beat my times each week. It does take a while to feel into it, but when it happens it's amazing!

Icon - Great to see you back here! I, too, have always wanted to try archery but it is in all the movies now it seems! I also fall into that unhealthy mentality, well something a bit different, I always think "well, I've come so far it's ok if I eat this/not workout." We have to live in the moment and challenge ourselves with our current situations for sure! Where abouts are you from in the UK? Sorry about your Grandma *hug*

I cannot believe it is July either!

I did my final restart and have lost almost 6 pounds so far, so I'm sticking with it and keeping it up! I got serious about Insanity and am about to do my Plyometric workout this morning. My husband and I are ready to start having babies so I want to get as healthy as possible while I can!
This summer has been wonderful so far! We are going to be taking our honeymoon in August and we are both so excited to finally be able to take that time together that we couldn't take as soon as we got married!

How's everyone doing this weekend?

rie wow sounds like you are on exercise fire! Go girl. Yeah I tend to want to lose weight by certain times and that is discouraging when I don't hit it exactly. I need to just be happy I am losing.

pink Babies..trips.. sounds like you are having a lovely time. Good luck!

So I finally am seeing the scale go down after those few days of overeating. Back at 166 and hoping to see 165 tomorrow. I want to be in the 150s soon! ha When I am in the mid 150s I am a 10 and I can't wait to fit back into the jeans I bought a couple of years ago, I currently have no jeans as I can't bare to buy them above 10s haha
I ran yesterday and that felt great. Might run on the treadmill today and no one to watch the munchkin. It hard though as its so boring. oh well. Hope you all all having fun this weekend

Hey guys!

Lately my weight loss has been stagnant...mostly due to me not working as hard on my diet. I've been pretty bad about it this week. I try not to eat so many carbs, but this week I've been ditching veggies which I usually eat and going straight for the bread, tortilla chips and pretzels. It's all whole wheat and in it's on right is the healthier form of the foods, but still...I've been neglecting my green leafy friends.

Today I'm refocusing myself, starting with this post and a bottle of water. We're going to the lake with a bunch of my new friends today (a little back story to this: my husband and I recently moved to his new duty station and I finally started meeting some cool people!), so I'll be sweating out all of this nasty salt that's causing so much water weight and I'm bringing along veggie sticks to snack on so I don't overeat on whatever treats my friends bring. I love them, but their diets aren't as restrictive as mine lol!

Riestrella My weekend has been tough with the unhealthy food so far, but I'm doing what I can to avoid overeating. The cookout on Thursday brought on a LOT of salt, so yesterday and today I've been chugging water and working out to get it all of out of me. Considering the amount of food presented I did pretty well portion control wise! Also, for your salad problem - I found that making my own dressings with vinegar, olive oil and spices reinvented the salad for me! I also tried out new veggies in it...julienne some raw zucchini and yellow squash and mix that in, add some canned beans (whatever kind you want), etc. Sometimes you find something you never thought you'd like!

Pink Hurricane Congrats on the weight loss!! My husband did Insanity and P90X to lose all of his weight, so best of luck to you. Those workouts are T-O-U-G-H! I personally prefer P90X because it's a lower intensity but still does an awesome workout. Where are you going on your honeymoon?? We're planning to do the same thing - our wedding was carefully positioned during his leave time and we focused on packing everything up and shipping it across the country rather than honeymooning lol. Have a ton of fun with your hubby!!

Last night was a test for my no soda rule, but I made it! I had a few drinks but I never pledged to myself that I wouldn't drink, since I don't tend to over drink when I'm out since I tend to drink alcohol slowly. Food wasn't amazing, the usual greasy izakaya food that everyone orders. But I took my time eating and didn't over indulge, didn't get my usual dessert either. My boyfriend felt he didn't have enough food so actually bought an extra meal at the shop at 1am! So I was quite pleased that I didn't eat with him, which I usually would. But I actually didn't feel hungry so hey ho.

Weight is up slightly this morning, gone from 156.7 lbs to 157.9 lbs. So a lb gain but I'm not too worried about it, I've been working out and my period is on its way. Today I'm going to do an Insanity workout to make my 3 x a week exercise goal accomplished.

Tonight I have my free hypnotherapy session, I'm slightly skeptical about it but still happy to be open to it helping. But it's with a friend so it's not a huge deal.

Back to work tomorrow! Next weekend I have a 3 day weekend and I'm going to be hiking in the blistering summer heat with a few friends. We're going to see a giant buddah sanctuary in the mountains. Should be fun! But yes, as I mentioned, SUMMER IS HERE! The heat came out of no where and it's 30+ degrees now (centigrade) having been in the mid twenties for a long time. Japan seasons just change over night it seems.

Remember those shoes I got a while ago? The ones that were a tad too small? Yeah...I looked up a method on how to make them bigger on the internet and they're now in the freezer with a ziplock bag of ice in them haha. Apparently if you allow the water to turn to ice inside the shoe it slowly expands, I just have to take them out and wear them and they'll adjust to my feet. Not so sure if it'll work, but worth a try I suppose. I'll do that after I post this. Felt like a crazy lady putting shoes in the freezer!

I went to H&M yesterday and bought some plain tank tops for summer. Realised that I had lots of t-shirts and shirts with prints on but no tank tops! I got them in L and one in M, they're a bit snug but I figured it's best to go snug and hope that my body will look better in the summer ;p. But I have a bad habit of buying too large then looking too large so I remembered that fact when I went shopping. I thought I didn't have much summer clothes, but I think I'm all set to go now!

---

Pink H - Well done on 6 lbs down! Insanity is amazing, I did it a while ago when it was too cold/muddy to run and I lost a lot of weight with it. I've incorporated it in my workout routine, but I mix up my workouts. I love me some Shaun T madness! Where are you going on your honeymoon?

sun - Good to see your weight is going down! It might be worth buying some cheap jeans your size, I know it's never nice to buy a size you don't want to be but jeans are like a staple in my wardrobe!

cdavid - I think it's important to strike a balance with food. It's fine to eat grains, you SHOULD eat grains, but not exclusively as you know! It's hard finding that balance but when it happens it's good times all around. Hope you enjoy yourself at the lake! Thanks for the advice on salads! I need to sort something out soon!!
