Default How long before change in clothes sizes?

Hello everyone! I'm very happy with my weight loss so far...officially lost 14 lbs as of this morning in just over 2 months, so I'm doing a little

Anyways, I'm still noticing, though, that my clothes are fitting about the same. I have a pair of jeans that are always snug, and I was hoping that they'd start to feel a bit looser with some weight loss, but they still fit the same way they've always done. Same with my shirts, they still hit all the same places they always did.

I'm not upset about it (yet), but I'm just wondering when/at how many pounds lost everyone started to see the physical changes of their weight loss? Knowing my luck I'll wake up one day and nothing will fit lol!

I just felt it was odd, and after seeing the Special K "lose a pants size in 2 weeks" commercial (this is why I shouldn't watch daytime tv), I was calling bull**** haha!

It depends on a lot of things: how large you are to start with, where you lose weight first, etc.

As a general rule, the larger you are (like us folks with a hundred or more to lose), the more pounds it takes to lose an inch. It's just geometry--there's more volume, and therefore more pounds, in one inch around someone's hips that are 60 inches to start with versus 36.

At your weight, you should start to notice some difference soon, I would think, but it really depends on where you carry the most weight. For me, my hips are out of proportion to the rest of me, so when I started losing, my pants size didn't change for almost 30 pounds, but I saw the difference on top more quickly.

Hang in there--your hard work will pay off eventually.

For me, it took longer the bigger I was. At my current weight the sizes change much faster.

I started off at 211 and it took until I lost about 30 pounds before my clothes started becoming so loose I shouldn't have continued to wear them. Unfortunately I live in South Korea and still can't get clothes to fit me so I'm up to 40 pounds lost and am still in my size 16s.

It took me quite a bit of weight because I'm pear shaped and my body wants to stay that way- I lost the majority of my inches in my waist and chest where I didn't really need to lose them! My butt and legs are always going to be big and take longer to lose inches from so for me going down sizes requires a lot of weight coming off.

Like others have said, at higher weights it takes longer to need the next size down. Why that's awesome: if I had a bad week and put a few pounds back on, no biggy.

When I was near goal (before baby) it did not take a lot to need the next size down. The down fall: If I had a bad week and put on a few pounds, my pants got snug!

Thanks everyone!!!

It does make sense about the sizes taking longer at larger weights, it took me a bit to think of it that way lol!! Hopefully I'll start to see some changes soon, but as long as the numbers keep going down, I'll be a happy girl

Took me about 14lbs to see a diff in size, don't worry it'll soon become apparent!

I wore the same size for years, I never understood it. I could be 180 or 200 and still wear my 16s. Now I've gained like 40 lbs and I'm only up one size.

Yup, took me about 20lbs (226 to the low 200s) to finally see a slight difference in my pant size! Keep at it though because after you get below 200, you'll see more differences in smaller increments as you get smaller.

Echoing what everybody else said. For me, I didn't see much change in clothing size until maybe 35-45 lost, but now I'm out-shrinking clothes much quicker. I can still fit into most things that I wore at my biggest (except activewear that just won't stay up), but they fit way different.

I can't really say when I first dropped a size. I got incredibly stubborn and went through a phase where I refused to buy new clothes. Somewhere up in my attic, I got this stupid notion that I could wear the clothing I had until goal. Uh... No. When I started losing weight, I was wearing a size 26 and that was tight. Eight months, 60 pounds and a new job later, I finally realized that my clothing was clown-suit big. I remember trying on pants for the first time since I'd started my weight loss efforts and bursting into tears because I fit into a size 20.

I wouldn't recommend doing what I did, though. I really looked ridiculous!

Anyway, OP, now I'm closer to your starting weight. I went from a 20 to an 18 in about 25 pounds.

Congrats on your weight loss so far I'm an apple shape, myself. 24 lbs lost, and I've lost one pant size, woo hoo! On the downside, I'm def still in the same shirt size - they seem to fit and hang a bit better. I think I'll be in these same size shirts for a while.

I'm the opposite of TooWicky - I'm dropping shirt sizes but not pants sizes yet. I've lost 16.5% of my body weight so far, which has taken me from a size L shirt to a size M (mostly size 8 in sleeveless dresses), but my pants are still size 12 (I think I was wearing 14s and some tight size 12s, but still thought of myself as a size 12).
