Default Lower abdominal fat

So as women, we are so blessed to have that wonderful weight stored down into our lower belly. I'll call it my "vrump." After I had my son, my hormones went coo coo and I lost a ton of hair and had a MAJOR influx of lower belly fat. I know they say you don't gain weight over night, but I swear to God, I woke up one day and I had this HUGE inflatable tire just sitting on my lower belly. I am losing quite easily in my mid section, but that lower belly fat hasn't budged! I'm just wondering how to work this area specifically? I do 150 crunches and leg lifts a day, but besides that, how do you work your own "vrumps?"

My upper belly is my problem area. Ever since I had kids its a mix of fat, lose skin and pregnancy stretch marks. You can't spot reduce, but you can try to reshape. I am pretty much at goal and still have the same problem areas....but with weight lifting I am working on reshaping.

You can't spot reduce fat. There is no exercise that will accomplish what is impossible.

All you can do, short of surgery, is lose fat. The "problem" areas will shrink but ultimately they will always be problem areas until you are skin and bones in the places you don't care about and then and only then will your problem area finally go away. Most likely, you'll decide it's not worth the effort. I'm kidding a little but reality is that your body loses where it wants and not where you want.

The best thing you can do is not worry about it.

25 years old.
no kids.

20% body fat, top 2 abs, lower belly pooch.

guess what? it's like having a large bum you don't like, or bat wings you're not so fond of. you dress for your shape and make the best of it!

I tend to be an apple shape, but I've found that eating low carb and doing reverse curls helps flatten my stomach.

JohnP, I agree that you can't spot reduce, but strengthening your abs helps hold in the vrump, doesn't it? Maybe you're thinking of people who are heavy all over, and I'm thinking of people who are thin with a vrump?

Never had kids but I had that lower body pooch into the 120s! Getting this low just leaves me with loose skin in that area (I can feel the muscle underneath! Argh!)

While I agree you cannot spot reduce, I swear by planks, reverse crunches, crisscrosses, and hip raises. My abs HURT today, and I did all those yesterday!

After having 4 big babies (8.5-10 lbs each, 37 lbs total), the first 3 in 3.5 yrs, I struggled with a poochy saggy belly. A couple yrs ago I started jogging and I was seriously shocked at how much smoother that area got in just a short amount of time.

I still have a lot of weight to lose, but I'm down five sizes up top..... and barely 2 in the bottom thanks to my lower belly.

I've found that yoga and ab work have "raised" the fat so to speak, meaning I'm burning some in that area and my muscles are tighter. You'll get there, and it's probably not as bad as you think

I get that you can't actually "spot reduce" I just figured there may be other exercises out there that can work the muscle underneath that fat and help "tighten" it up a little. I will try plans like someone suggested!

Try boxing! You'd be surprised of a core workout boxing is. Its not just a repetitive motion that muscles get used to. Because it focuses so much on balance - which uses all core muscles - AND cardio, your core really starts to tighten quickly. It's great for your whole body, but killer on your tummy.

I don't know what the exercise is called, but if you lie on your back with your knees bent then raise and lower your legs it is supposed to strengthen the muscles in the lower belly, I think. That will not get rid of the fat. LIke everone else is saying the fat has to be burned off. But firming the muscles will make the area look better. Mine is beyond help!
