Default Summer Shoe Dilemma

I am so bad at buying shoes. It’s not that I don’t have a certain taste. I can find all kinds of shoes that I adore, but I have SUCH a hard time making the decision to buy a shoe, especially now that I really need to invest in some summer clothes that I’m not swimming in. This problem triples in the summer, because the clothing choices are so diverse and you actually SEE the shoe. I always want a sandal that can go with everything, but that’s so hard to find! But right now, all of my shoes are worn out, and I really need to invest in some new shoes.

So, I need your help. Does anyone have a favorite style of summer shoe that they seem to be able to wear with everything from work attire to a pair of shorts? What are your summer must-haves? Are there any rules you use for picking out new shoes?

Thanks for posting this .. I too am looking. I need a flat-1inch w/o any toe slings,
I hate blisters from sandals. Unfortunately I also need a back to them .. there are
podiatrists that recommend a back for extra support. I bought heels but I need
a dressy/active sandal. I'll step back and hope someone has some advice.

Are flippy type shoes ok or you want something more fitted? I know some people hate the click-click when walking, esp. at work.

Do you have an Easy Spirit store near you? I know it seems like it's only for old ladies (no offense to old ladies!) but they have some really nice quality comfortable shoes at the outlet near me and there are always huge sales.

Right now I'm rocking (!!) Old Navy flip flops in a gazillion colors only because I have never been able to fit into them in my whole life. But I don't have to worry about them for work. And the toe thing doesn't hurt at all (maybe softer plastic?) and usually I can't wear anything with the toe thing as it kills my feet.

I want to try all of these if my outlet has them! Can wear with shorts, skirts, capris, everything!

Love that first shoe from Elvis! I got a pair of Cobbie Cuddlers sandals at Kmart like six years ago that I still wear. They're leather/rubber sole with an ankle strap and they're wide width to boot. Super comfy! I just checked their site and they still carry the brand, for twenty dollars they've held up ridiculously well.

I just ordered a cute pair of sandals at Grasshoppers.com and I also get a lot of my shoes from Foot Smart. I have wide feet and a high arch so comfort along with cuteness is a must.

Oh no elvis, those look a little... grandmotherly.

I love a good wedge. For summer I do not wear black shoes. They seem very heavy and because I'm pale they make my legs look shorter. I go for neutral or bright colors, mostly metallics. I also avoid straps that go around the ankle which also make my legs look shorter. I'm looking forward to wearing these http://www.dsw.com/shoe/aerosoles+wa...dsw11cat260004

I find great deals at TJMaxx and DSW!

You all are wonderful! I've got quite a few places to look around at now. And wannabeskinny, I am loving DSW! And I really love that first shoe you posted.

I think a lot of the problem is that I don't know what kind of sandal looks good with what. I don't really do flip flops (the sound drives me crazy), so what can a big girl wear with shorts that doesn't look too dressy or matronly? Luckily, I have slim ankles and my calves aren't that big, but there's just so much variety in shoes that it kinda makes my head spin.
