My fiance just signed up for MFP and it set his calories at 1950. He was eating pretty healthy before he signed up as I've been 'dieting' since November and he cooks for the two of us. So for him that number is actually pretty tough to get to.
I'd recommend that your husband play around with what he eats and try to add more fiber to his diet. I know that really helped me out because I often felt like I was starving when I first started calorie counting.
