what intervals do you usually make your minigoals?
My minigoal at the moment is 20lbs..
do you think that is too much or too little?
I usually anticipate about -10lbs a month so I thought doing it for 2 months at a time would be good. thoughts? ideas?

I think that is perfect for you! With my restart at 180, I am going by 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and final goal.

I set mine at approximately 5 pounds. (They're listed below in my signature.) The small amounts keep me motivated because I'm able to hit a target about every 2-3 weeks.

You have to go with what works for you. like novus, i set my Mini goal at 5 Pounds. I love the sense of accomplishment i get every time i hit my goal and it helps keep me motivated and on plan.

I actually have 6 minigoals:
10lb
10%
35lb (because it's halfway)
41lb (199)
50lb (because it's 50-freaking-pounds!)
Goal
As Nichole2013 said, it's what works for you. For me, losing the first 10lb was a big accomplishment.

My mini goals are small: sometimes as little as 3lbs. They are weights that have significance to me. For example my last one was 22lbs lost cuz it was half-way. Next one was 25lbs lost cuz that put me under 150. But then I am losing slowly. First 20lbs took me 4 months. That would be way too long for me to wait. But everyone is different!

I set mine at what I expect to lose in 3 months, which is usually 6 kgs (13 lbs). It's all in my signature. My advice to you is to set it where it's realistic for you

As soon as I started getting obsessive about setting goals, I ended up sabotaging myself and stalled, lol, but that's my personality! Do whatever works for you
I have the weight range where I can go back on the pill as a goal... But I want that so much I'm trying not to think about it, and I'm getting into that range now
That said, when I started out, before I got obsessive about it, my mini goals were 1lb each, and I've now hit 23 mini goals! Whatever keeps you going, even if it's just a daily goal of doing the best you can with what you have. Honestly, it all adds up! If you find you've lost 17lbs or whatever, and you like it, who cares if it's not a significant or rounded number? Reward yourself anyway and keep on keeping on!

I pick numbers that are significant. My first mini-goal is onederland (under 200). After that is 189 (BMI out of "obese" category). Then 182, which is lowest adult weight. Then 175. Then 169, which is out of the "overweight" BMI category. And I think goal will be 155, though I'll have to see how I feel as I get closer.
I do find that trying to attach dates to goals can frustrate me - I can stall for a week and lose nothing, and then overnight the scale goes down two pounds. So I don't have a time frame attached to my mini-goals, but focus on behaviors (getting workouts in, planning snacks and meals, etc). At this point I have lost 13.8 pounds - so if I lose, great! If I don't, I am maintaining a 13.8 pound loss! As long as the numbers don't go up, I am a happy chick.
Good luck! You can do it!

My mini-goals are all random numbers...weights that I remember being. I got up to 265 in 2010 when I had my second serious diet attempt, so getting to 265 was my first mini goal. I was able to stick to that diet for 3 months and lose 34 pounds so 231 was my second mini goal and so on. Now I'm past the point where I'm trying to undo previous mistakes so I've chosen random chunks. My next mini goal will be getting to 160.

Mine was 10%, so 160lbs. I didn't set another one after that, as I am close to goal. I think I'm going to set a BF% goal when I hit my original goal of 135. I am just over 26% now, and I would like to get to 22%.
