Default Life expectancy issue

I'm probably alone but I have spent the best part of the last 10 years assuming I would die in my fifties because of my weight and because I'm male (heart attack or stroke). I wasn't particularly happy about this but thought weight loss was impossible for me so it seemed a done deal.

I may still die in my fifties - tomorrow even - but if I can make this journey then that cloud won't be over my head any more. I'm having to adjust to this as well as all the other crazy stuff that happens when the pounds drop.

Strangely, that wasn't even my motivation to lose weight. I just thought I would give it a go!

Funny, I've always just assumed that I'd live to be 100. There's no family history to support that; it's just what's always been in my mind. Apparently, I'm not alone. FWIW, I just read in Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman that most people think they will live longer than average.

Congrats for changing your lifestyle to change your odds for longevity.
