Smile Want to try again

I'm 230 pounds, or so, and my BMI is 39.5. I know what I need to do to lose the weight, but I just don't want to. I don't know if it is because I'm lazy or because I need a push in the right direction...I don't know. I want to see a doctor before I start a weight loss plan, but I don't know what TYPE of doctor to see. A general specialist, an endocrinologist? Does anyone know? Thanks in advance for the advice!

Hi, Determined One!!! IMO, you are thinking and doing just the right things. I don't think you are lazy or need a push. You are just, it seems to me, in a precontemplative stage of change. I don't have any advice to give, because I think you are on the right track. My only question is if you have a regular family doctor. If so, then she or he would be the place to start and could make the concrete suggestions you need. If not, can you contact your health insurance carrier or HMO and ask them to recommend someone. It doesn't seem to me you need any kind of specialist just to start you off, but you are wise to know you need sound one-on-one medical advice.

There's plenty of support on this site, just chose some threads and jump in, but please follow through and see that doc!!! Keep smilin' !!!!

Welcome! It's nice to meet you and I hope you post often so we can get to know you better.

I agree, start with you family doctor if you have one. I check in with mine every few months just to make sure that I'm doing okay with everything.

If you'd like, please feel free to join us in the 100 lb. Club Forum. There's a great group of people over there to offer support and assistance. Of course everyone here is pretty great, so where ever you decide to post, I'm sure you'll get lots of help and encouragement.
