Unhappy Cravings......

I have not had an oatmeal raisin cookie since before Christmas, that is the ONLY thing that I crave. I started IP on 01/07/13......I have been craving a cookie all week, just one. How do you satisfy your cravings, or do you just ignore them??? Do you know of an alternative that has a "good" oatmeal raisin cookie?

This is a bit of a double-edged sword.

Yes, there is a recipe for an oatmeal "cookie" using IP packets. There is also an oatmeal protein cookie (restricted item) that is made by one of the alternative product companies. Are they going to be just like a real oatmeal cookie? Of course not - but they could head off a cheat for you just by being close enough.

BUT you have to tread lightly especially with cravings that are danger zones for you - success in dieting is more about what is going on in your head than what is going into your mouth. The control you need to have to overcome your danger cravings is going to be absolutely necessary all the way through maintenance - so you need to decide whether satisfying the craving is going to help you now, or hurt you later.

That said, here is the recipe for the IP product cookies:
Oatmeal Cookies-(Phases 1-4)

1 Ideal Protein oatmeal packet
1 Ideal Protein butterscotch or chocolate pudding packet
1/8 cup rolled oats
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon Splenda or Stevia
a sprinkle of cinnamon, to taste
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 egg white
1 teaspoon vanilla
just enough water to get a cookie dough texture

Combine dry ingredients, then add the last 3 liquid ingredients to reach a cookie dough texture. Spray cookie sheet lightly with Pam olive oil spray and place 10 cookies on sheet. Bake at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for 5-10 minutes or until desired degree of moisture. Test center of cookie with toothpick to see if baked.

Scorbett knows the ropes. I honestly think quitting high carbs was tougher than quitting smoking! It is such a head game!

The oatmeal cookies are ok for phase 1 with added oats? Mmmmm I would assume that 5 cookies would be one meal?

Correct, because it uses 2 packets half the recipe would be one packet. The oats add 18 calories and 2.7g net carbs per serving, not TECHNICALLY OP but adding very little to the overall recipe.

They would have to be treated as a restricted - each serving would have a total of 9.2 NET carbs (5g net carbs from the oatmeal, 1.5g net carbs from the pudding, and 2.7g net carbs from the oats)

I'm probably in the minority but if this is the one thing you've been craving and you're the kind of person that can just eat one than I would just eat one.

One cookie will have a negligable impact on your fat loss.

It's the bag of cookies that makes an impact...

If you can find a way to satisfy the craving that is ON THE PLAN, all the better!

For myself, if I let off-plan items in, it is like letting one termite into a house. I might not get an infestation overnite, but eventually....

Healthsmart has an oatmeal protein bar that might satisfy your craving. The only problem is you would have to wait for the order to get delivered, unless you can find them local.

Scorbett, thanks for the recipe, I will definitely try it, later, I am going to fight thru this, I know I can. Thanks to everyone else for your support it really means a lot. Meanwhile I will be looking for an alternative. My favorite IP snack is Southwest Cheese Curls, I'll try to find something with similar, fats, carbs, and sugars.

HealthSmart makes an Oatmeal Raisin cookie - the protein cookies tend to be heavier and a little drier than "real" cookies, but I used their chocolate chip cookies as an occasional treat and they were pretty good.
