I stuck closely to plan this week, I drank more water than the fishes, I cut out soda "almost" completely and I am still gaining weight. I am going to step back this weekend an reevaluate my plan and see if shaking it up will get me moving in the right direction.
Hoping not to let this weeks adventure on the scale discourage me.
I had kinda of a bad week, took me five days to lose a lbs. sometime it just happens. I was eating right and exercising more. But I guesss reevaluating can't hurt.
Didn't you say you had watched The Biggest Loser while eating a bag of chips and a bowl of onion dip? Do you journal your food? Perhaps you weren't quite as on plan as you think?
But the other thing is that you've lost a large amount of weight already and your body is adapting to that - almost at that 15% mark! Your resting metabolic rate is going to be lower because it takes fewer calories to keep a 256 body going than it does for one that is almost 300. So it may be necessary to change things up - either eating a little bit less/differently or ramping up the activity level. I always find that increasing my activity will break through a plateau.
I did say I ate chips and onion dip (far from a bag and a whole bowl though) while watching the biggest loser on Sunday Night. I have been completely on plan since Monday morning and have gained almost 3 pounds since Monday morning. I can't imagine something I ate Sunday night is causing my weight to be creeping up all week.
Prehaps the sodium from the chips? I don't eat them very often, but when I do, I bloat like a balloon for a few days after...I agree with checking your bmr again, and readjusting your calories/uping the intensity of your workouts since you may have become accustomed to what your doing, making it less effective
When I'm at a plateau sometimes, I eat at maintaince or SLIGHTLY above for a few days and that usually works for me to bust through it
Hmm, what else do you eat? Do you weigh stuff or count calories?
I count calories, I journal, I weigh everything I eat, and I dabble with weight watchers. I think my body is just trying to adjust to getting back on a healthy diet and I am sure I am still experiencing the affects of TOM last week.
Id say give it some time. It's SO frustrating to get a bad number on the scale when youre doing well but it's probably a hiccup! You'll be down next week. Stay motivated b/c youre doing a great job!
Oh drat. I haven't been here for 20 days, so I can't link. Google- Dr. Oz, the Anti-Diet: The Plan.
It was about how even healthy foods can be reactive to our specific body chemistries and cause weight gain. Nutritionist Lyn-Genet Recitas says the following on her website:
"There are 4 basic variables for weight gain/poor health- not enough water, consuming too much sodium, eating reactive foods and overtraining. When you eliminate foods that are inflammatory for your body you can increase your caloric intake because your body is no longer having an inflammatory responses which ******s digestion and causes you to put on anywhere from .5 to 2 lbs in inflammatory response. This inflammatory response is NOT water weight. Water weight can be reversed within 24 hrs. Reactive response can easily last for 72 hours and causes more than just weight gain-it kick starts whatever our chronic or latent health issues are. It also affects our digestion (IBS, constipation, Crohns). In fact 70% of our immune system is in our gut so whenever there is a disturbance this affects us on many levels."
Also-
"Examples of highly reactive foods based on my research are- salmon, all shellfish with the exception of scallops, turkey, pork, eggs, Greek yoghurt, roasted nuts, asparagus, green beans, cauliflower, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, beans, oatmeal….the list goes on. This does NOT mean these foods are bad for you- there is no good, there are no bad- this just means there is a high possibility that these foods will not work with your chemistry!"

I think we "over think" too often. If you have had success eating and exercising a certain way in the past, there's no reason it shouldn't keep on working. Stick with it and things will turn around.
