Today was my first day. I had egg whites for breakfast, chicken a la king and a salad for lunch, chocolae drink made into a shake which i could not stomach. Ended up throwing it out. I am nauseated and disappointed. I have tons of Ip products but I don't think I can eat these foods. :?
You made the commitment to try but you need to give it a bit of time. The first few days you are detoxing the sugar out (glycogen stores). Once that happens and you are in ketosis, you may find things totally different. There were a couple packets that I tried that first week that I hated but I stuck with it. I had duplicates of a few of them that I had to finish the second week and discovered the second time they weren't as bad. Even now I find I change my favorites and dislikes every so often.
Another tip is to find the thread on having fun with IP packets. You can make the chocolate shakes into mug cakes or muffins that may be more tolerable to you than the shake was.
I'm only a week in and agree, definitely give it more time. There's a lot of products, some you won't like, some you can tolerate, and you might find some you actually like.
I haven't had the chicken a la king yet, but I'm a foodie, and really picky. I don't easily say something is good. Everyone's tastes are different, but if you thought you'd like chicken a la king, what I'd suggest is to try the chicken soup next time and add some real chicken to it. It's a creamy soup with good chicken flavor and when you add in some fresh roasted chicken it reminds me of chicken a la king (one of my absolute favorite things).
If you like chocolate, try the double chocolate bar, that's my favorite one.
We are SO used to flavor-enhanced, sweetened, carb loaded food (sugar and carbs are hidden EVERYWHERE) - it takes a little time to "break" our taste buds of the tastes we're used to. The packets are not going to taste like stuff you get at the supermarket - because they aren't really over-sweetened and over-enhanced compared to what we're used to. And yes, the "protein powder" flavor takes a little getting used to.
But I would encourage you to stick it out at LEAST a week. Cleanse your palate with lettuce (you can have as much romaine, butter lettuce or iceberg as you want, it is unlimited), and the veggies you have to eat every day. Poke around the recipe threads, there are ways to use the packets in recipes that may appeal to your tastes more than just the straight packet.
Most of all, don't give up yet. This diet is not easy - but things worth having rarely are. And you have a huge amount of support on this forum to help you succeed!
The food takes some getting used to, but you will find the ones you like. The RTD (ready to drink) drinks are better than the mixes. Add lots of seasonings/spices, & sometimes a little extra water helps. The first few days are the hardest, but we're here to help!
Many of the packets i tried, and did not like. I ended up solely having the cereal, omelet and chocolate drink and i was totally happy with those. My coach/center allowed me to "trade" packets i didn't like (unopened). Many of the centers have allowed clients to do this (so i've been told). Give it some time! Some days will be more difficult/easy than others. You'll find your groove and routine. The results are worth it!!!
It really is true. I don't know if it's just your body adjusting but in the first few days I thought I can smell and taste that protein in every packet. It was nauseating. At this point, I don't even notice it. You will find things you like better than others but I promise, it all gets better. The first chocolate chip cookie I had, I thought I'll never buy these again....now I love them. I would strongly suggest you give it atleast a week and then decide. Good Luck....I know that first week is a bummer!
I had tons of IP food when I started and ended up trading them all in for the chocolate drink and double chocolate bar. (My initial joining fee included two weeks of food and they select what you get...I didn't like the stuff). After I switched I was so happy. Also, I remember week one was horrible. I think back to the food I was preparing and it makes me sick!!! Now I eat food and am satisfied and happy!!! Give it time and you'll find your groove!!!
Don't give up! It's totally worth it and like others say, your tastes will change!
Do you have pudding? If so make it and put it in the freezer for 30 min. You can do the same with the chocolate shake. I drink the RTD ones and put them in the freezer for 30-60 min and YUM!
As mentioned,it gets better, and you'll learn which foods you like and which can be made better by adding veggies etc. It's a commitment for sure. But it works. So if you can stick it out, give it a try for a little while. The rewards are worth it.
There are foods I liked at 1st that I need a break from, new ones I love, and a couple I'll eat long after phase 1 is done. Salt n Vinegar crisps and strawberry wafers I am talking to you!
