Default Walking exercise question...

If I were to walk 3 miles:

Is it better to walk 3 miles straight without splitting it up?

OR

Will I get the same results if I split it up? 2 miles then a few hours later, 1 mile for example?

Thank you !!

Rather than doing what you think is better, just trying doing what is right for you. There are benefits to both. There are cons to neither.

Pros to splitting it up: it's great if you don't have a lot of time. Or if you get tired easily and prefer not to test your endurance too much. It's also great for what I like to call "injecting calorie burning" into your day. A quick walk clears your head, resets your mood, and revs up your fat burning in the later part of the day.

Pros to logging all your miles in one go: Building up your endurance, and working on your speed.

Me, I exercise once during the day. But I keep a pedometer with me at all times and I strive to log 10,000 steps (roughly about 4mi) every day. Only 2 of those miles are usually done during my run/walks.

I like splitting it up because I don't have the time since I have a toddler to chase after. Thank you for the reply!!

Same here! Running around after a toddler is part of my work out regiment!

Do whatever works for you! I prefer to do most of the walking all at once but that's simply because I have a lot of time. I sometimes split it up too.

I say as long as you are moving your body that's great! For me I would prefer to do it all at once. From what I understand the longer you can go at a brisk pace the better as more stored body fat gets burned off. Not to say that walking 1 mile isn't effective, but I found once I bumped up the miles per session more weight dropped off at a quicker pace compared to when I broke up my walks. My diet remained the same.

However if you can get in 1 mile in the morning and 1 mile in the evenings go for it
