Default Anybody use TRX suspension?

My personal trainer just installed these straps at the studio. I haven't used them yet, and frankly, never heard of them till just recently. I have not quizzed her about them yet, but I'm curious how they're best employed.

Anybody use them here? And if so, how are they for bigger folks?

They are great once you build strength.

These are GREAT. I'm considering buy one for my home. I agree with Geo - when I first started I was not lifting and it made me tired quickly. As I started lifting heavier hand weights my upper body strength became much better. When I came back to using the TRX suspension I was able to use it much longer and more effective.

My favorite move is to stand facing it, holding the straps in your hand, using your weight to go backwards and pull your body towards it. That move works the back muscles, the arms and the core all at once. You move your feet to adjust the resistance.

I was on the bigger side when I first started using it and I am still no where near petite! There are some awesome demonstrations on YouTube if you're interested.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info.

The new gym I just joined has TRX and I love it. I love it that I can use my body weight to work out. It's a challenge to keep the straps straight and to do the reps correctly, but that adds to my achievement. The trainer at my gym has showed me that exercise with TRX can imitate virtually any machine in the gym. I hope to see more on this forum about this and whether people like it as much as I do. So far.

My gym charges for this $300 for 6 weeks of classes, I think twice a week. You can't use them on your own. Do your gyms allow you to use them on their own or do you have to pay for classes?

The Y has a class where I live--it's a good workout. The gym also has some where individuals can use them on their own. There are some videos online that show some exercises. I have a set at home that's attached to the ceiling of my garage.

I have an alternate brand (it's a few straps, some rings, and handles...not too complicated!) that was much less expensive. I LOVE it. I can get a workout anywhere, and some of the exercises are very, very challenging.

I don't but I have a funny anecdote regarding them! I work with a young woman (she's about 33, I'm 52) and she is a fit, fit person. Runs, works out, plays rugby for fun anyway, she tried a TRX class, and most of the other participants were ladies my age or older...she said her abs hurt SO much the next day, from the core work, and she was laughing (even though it hurt her!) about the over 60 ladies who kicked her *ss in that class

I made my own and hooked it around a tree outside a few summers ago and being so heavy it was hard to use my full body weight so I would modify the moves to only use partial body weight and it works great it was the best toned I've ever been when I was using those. And the fact I put it outside made me want to use it everyday and more fun. I miss it.

I did TRX Suspension classes at my gym a couple of years ago (when I was a lot fitter than now) and I found them great .... having to remain stable doing your lunges, press ups etc. is brilliant on your core .... I really enjoyed the class and found them challenging .... usually I was the only woman and the eldest so felt I had more to prove!!!
