Default upset and confused about my measurements

OK, so i'm trying to figure out what body size/shap i am - i just recently enrolled into a workout regimen and they had to measure me.

Bust: 37
Waste: 31
Hips: 40

i was surprised because i don't think my hips look that large. =( trainer said i was pear shaped - but i disagree because my shoulders have always been broad. i'm 5'4 - 137 pounds - trying to get down to 120 pounds.
anyhoo, i decided to measure my shoulders all around and they are 42 inches. hence why i am confused. my upper arms have always been chubby.
i'm not sure what i am... help!

You may find your body proportions changing as you lose those last 10 or 20 pounds. That's what happened to me. The more I weigh, the greater the disparity between my hip and chest measurements. When I started out I was something like 40/33/44. It's only when I went from 150 to 140 that I became a true hourglass: 36/28/37.

We have similar stats and I think of myself as a spoon rather than a pear. I also have broad shoulders, but I don't think that matters for the usual body type label.

Why do you care? Is it to help you find flattering clothing styles? I'm an Empire waist fan!
