Default Going Public - Atkins, I'm Back!

Hi all!

I'm new to the group but not new to Atkins. Had great success about 10 years ago then about 6 years ago (plus a number of shorter-term successes over the years) and have never felt happier/healthier as when I was following. Acid reflux practically goes away. I lose enough weight to stop my sleep apnea. I lose enough weight to begin jogging again. I'm not bloated. My mind feels clearer. I could go on and on...

Atkins works for me - my body responds very well to it - and I'm looking forward to getting back my body that 2 babies and a bunch of laziness have hidden underneath that extra layer of huggable squishiness ;-)

My current motivation is for health and strength (though seeing those numbers drop is a huge, exciting part of the journey!). This year brought arthroscopic knee surgery for a torn meniscus and a miscarriage, and I know my weight and current level of fitness played at least a small factor in both.

I have two beautiful daughters who deserve an active and healthy mom who serves as a positive role model to them and I am also not ready to hang up my dreams of a third child - and a healthy, active body (and related increased confidence) can only help me in my quest.

I've never "gone public" on this board (or any board) with my weight struggles and am looking forward to being motivated and to motivating others on this journey like so many of your stories have done for me over the years.

I plan to re-read all of my Atkins materials and to follow the plan very closely. I know my body only responds well to naturally low carb foods. Atkins or other "low carb" products immediately screw up my progress and I try to avoid them at all costs.

I'm excited to spend more time on this board learning about any new and creative recipes and tips and tricks that are working for everyone. I have a bunch of stand-by lunches and snacks that are committed to memory but would love to shake it up with some new, exciting options that will continue to motivate me.

For the next 14 days, though, eggs and meats and greens, oh my (and water and vitamins and weight loss too)!

Thank you for letting me share my story and continued successes to all!

Thank you, ladies - I'm excited! I spent way too many years pretending I was following the plan when I was really just trying to avoid bread. I know it only works for me if I'm very strict. I'm glad to be starting this time of year as well since I have a few months of comfortable walking (then hopefully jogging) weather ahead. One fun first goal is a work trip to Vegas in a little over 2 months. Have never been and would love to be down in pounds with a little added muscle tone by then - and just may treat myself to a new outfit (we're planning a show one night). I'll then have another 2 months until our annual Christmas trip to see family, so that will be another nice interim goal to focus on. It's a marathon journey for me but it is nice to have mini goals to focus on.

Day 1 Induction went well. New for me this round is using an iPhone app to track everything and keep me honest. I plan to actually measure things out this round (at least during induction) so I really know how many cups and tbs etc.

Yesterday I ate 20 net carbs, 1900 calories. I would like to cut down on the calories a bit, limit my cheese more, and force myself to finish my waters (I didn't even get halfway there). But all in all, a good first day back and already the scale is moving down and I am motivated to keep moving forward!

Oooh the headaches!! Day 4 is a bit painful with dreams of burying myself in a soft, pillowy eclair and never coming out! I'm staying focused, but it's like an oasis mirage in the desert...

I had an unintentional slip up yesterday with underestimating my (seemingly good at the time until I plugged them in) choices at Flat Top Grill (unavoidable meal out) and hit a whopping 36 carbs for the day - oy! Calories were super low (1250) - but I know it's the carbs that count.

So my body is fighting back a bit today but step by step, I'll get there (after I choke down a bit more advil for this head o' mine)!

Hey we both started Induction at the same time!! I have had dreams of food too and look at food porn on the internet
However, I think today (day 4) the craves are starting to subside - thankfully- and weirdly enough I still have TONS of candy/ice cream in my apartment and haven't been tempted to eat them today (I am scared pantless of getting out of ketosis...)
Good luck!!! I am so happy there is someone else doing it at the same time!

You can definitely do this!

Excited to have fellow Induction buddies!

I must share a great personal accomplishment - and that would be sitting here at my desk and not in the conference room where they are throwing a cupcake and wine/beer party for 2 co-workers who are engaged and getting married soon.

I said my congratulations, grabbed a diet coke and a cheese stick and came back to my desk.

It's the minor victories :-)

Hi all!

Great first week on Induction! 8 lbs. down, not thinking about food 24/7, acid reflux in check (no tums in a week!!), deep purple Ketostix, successfully stayed strong at a cupcake party, headaches almost gone, a few new induction-friendly foods discovered, as well as LOTS of motivation to make it through Induction Week 2 and beyond!

Thank you all for your support! A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single egg!

Congrats! I've been at it 1 week today and as of yesterday I have lost 6.6lbs!
I am pretty happy in induction, I will keep at it for a few more weeks and see how it goes.
