Default Plateau, busted?

I think I busted my 2 month plateau! I was stuck at 184 forever, sometimes a pound or 2 up, but NEVER below (not first thing in the morning, not after a "good" week, not after a "bad" week, NEVER), and most of the time just 184. I'm training for some races and my trainer said I should basically give up hope of losing while training, which was annoying.

A couple of weeks ago I gave up tracking foods, since it was making me mental. I took last week off training, and just ate what my body wanted, which wasn't much since I wasn't working out as much. And I left the scale under the bed.

This morning I got on, and I was finally at 183!

Things that are welcome: yays! and atta girls!

Things that aren't welcome: "That's probably just water weight", "you lost muscle from not working out" and other parade raining comments.

that's amazing to hear! I just posted a thread on the forum yesterday, asking how to break/prevent a plateau! thinking about it discouraged me a bit, but reading stories of people busting a plateau is just what I needed!

I was stuck at 183-184 for forever. Then once I hit 182, I started to lose like crazy. Of course, now I'm having the same thing trying to get into the 160's again. But this just shows that if we stick to it, it has to come off! It has to! Good job!

Yay! I know that after a month long plateau in the 123-125 range, I did not ****ing care if it was muscle loss, water loss, or what when I got on the damn scale and finally saw 122. I had even been considering cutting my almost waist length hair.

Congratulations on busting through your plateau! It looks like changing your routine a wee bit might have done the trick so maybe there's hope for me as I'm switching things up frequently to push through these mini-plateaus.

And I'm down another 2.5 pounds!! I 180.5! This is crazy but I'll take it! I thought I'd be up since I had kind of a carb heavy salty dinner (1 serving of angel hair pasta with shrimp and some pesto) but I drank a lot of water last night and could feel my stomach was flatter this morning. I figured I'd check to see if I was still at 183, and I was at 180.5! I calibrated the scale with my 20 pound kettlebell, too, and it was right.

I finally broke through a 6+ month plateau after I had knee surgery and cut my workouts way back. Sometimes, the body does what it's going to do, logic about calories in/calories out/exercise be darned.

Congrats on breaking through!

Perhaps this will not be a welcome comment as you read it but in my opinion understanding what is happening is important. Consider that at one point people thought thunder and lightning was the acts of angry gods ... better to be enlightened.

Obviously you know it is water weight the question is why.

In my personal opinion the primary culprit is cortisol. A week off of training doesn't cause one to lose muscle. That is rediculous. However a couple weeks off of regimented dieting plus taking a week off of training is certainly going to cause you to relax a bit and therefore your cortisol levels drop and bingo out comes the water. This theory is further supported by your continued drop in lbs which undoubtably is a net reaction to further relaxation based on dropping the first bit of water.

I stalled a bit in the lower 180's too, which is a previous setpoint for my body. If you don't bounce back up again or slowly continue downward I'd consider the plateau officially busted, but don't be discouraged if you hang out a pound down for a little while, too. Sometimes the scale takes awhile to catch up with our actual fat loss for any number of reasons. Just be consistent and the plateau WILL be busted, if it isn't already
