Default Anyone doing Paleo, Primal, or Whole 30?

I have been looking at these plans, and wondering if they are fads or good nutrition. I am leaning more and more towards them being reasonable and healthy lifetime ways to eat. Is anyone here doing paleo or primal? Or anyone who has tried it?

Basically they eliminate grains and legumes and processed foods. Paleo cuts out dairy too, Primal doesn't. So you eat a lot of meat, eggs, vegetables, healthy fat, and some fruit.

I am seriously considering it. I have been treading water with my weight for too long.

Hola, Lyn! I did paleo for awhile, but still recommend exactly what I do on your blog - The Perfect Health Diet. It has all the best parts of paleo, with a lot more soundness to the research and an emphasis on not overdoing it or undergoing it on any nutrient. Highly, highly recommend it.

I haven't tried them, but I have a friend who is doing Paleo, and he loves it. He says it's easy to follow (though that doesn't seem to be the consensus), and the weight loss is easy and consistent.

That said, I think it's a good idea to shake things up when things are not going as well as you want. Good luck finding something that gets your mojo back for you. I'm also looking at the Perfect Health Diet right now. Sounds interesting.

I'm a primal low carber. I eat whole foods, avoid grains, legumes, and most starches and refined sugars. Right now I'm doing Atkins induction but I've cut out the dairy...so I'm practically paleo at this point. I have to watch my nutrients really closely at this point to make sure I'm getting the essentials, but I also take a multi vitamin just to make sure. I came by primal after finding out I'm gluten intolerant. Then I read wheat belly, then a friend saw me reading wheat belly and sent me to Marks Daily Apple website and I think I've found a sustainable WOE for life.

Yes! I love the paleo diet. It makes so much sense to me it's all about eating whole, natural foods. Nothing processed....that means no fast food...you must cook you way back to health....lol. I recommend reading The Paleo Solutions by Robb Wolf...it completely changed how I view food and eating. It honestly has changed not only my health but my life...seriously.

Check it out and let me know what you think,
Lulu

oh god yes paleo is good for you. when you eat the majority of your foods raw, the foods contain natural digestive enzymes that help you to digest food without putting a lot of stress on your body.

grains DON'T EQUAL something that you are supposed to be eating. think about what a grain is. can you take a grain from the plant, and eat it like that? no, you can't. you have to process it down to make it edible. that is telling you something right there.

think about what your body does with seeds typically. like say you eat an apple and it has seeds in it. does your body digest the seeds? no, it doesn't. it goes straight through you and out the back door in the same way it came in.

i hope i opened your mind a little bit.

you can get all the nutrients you need from whole, raw foods. plus, get that protein in, ya herrd. stop poisoning, start fulfilling your body.

Simon, The the paleo diet is not a raw food diet per se. Some people do the paleo diet with only eating raw food including raw meat. But for the most part people that are on the paleo diet (including myself) eat cooked foods....raw veggies and fruits as well...but is not the raw food diet. That's something all together different. I agree, we can get lots of nutrients from a raw food diet but for me just raw veggies, fruits, nuts and seeds was not enough. I have found that being on the paleo diet which includes eating lots of produce both cooked and uncooked is the perfect balance.

Thanks for letting me share,
Lulu

Thanks for all the input guys!

I cut out all the grains, legumes, and sugar just for a couple of days and have been buying more stuff like seeds, nuts, avocado, meat, and I find I am much more satisfied on far fewer calories so far. I am counting calories, allowing up to 1600/day but have been closer to 1200 going just by my hunger. I feel better except for the HEADACHE.

Bummer on the headache. When I cut out dairy and sugar, I particular, I tend to get headaches the first day or two. Then I feel great

Hi there! I did Ideal Protein and lost 40 lbs. I added in grain and legumes to my diet and bam gained weight back. So I am going Paleo. It is similar to IP in composition but all whole foods. I cannot face another IP shake. Excited to see my results. Saw some great recipes here too.

My diet is mostly primal at this point. I can't bring myself to give up dairy, and I do occasionally (rarely) have oats.

I had a personal trainer for a short period who had me on a modified paleo diet. Actually now that I think about it, it seemed more like paleo/primal; I could still have *some* dairy, but limited - yoghurt, goat's cheese and cottage cheese were ok and that was it. No beans, no grains, no peanut butter (peanuts are a bean).

I was skeptical and not interested in losing weight. You see I finally gave up that notion when after 2.5 years NOT A POUND ONE was lost from this body, regardless of all the different tactics I had attempted.

In combination with strength training and cutting out a few things from my diet (that I said I would NEVER do) THE PLATEAU WAS BROKEN. I have continued experimenting with certain things - some rice, corn and gluten-free products (my own baking as not a lot is available where I live) and I have lost probably 10lbs since February. It's slow, but it's ok. Plus I've done other things that are suggested by Robb Wolf (the Paleo Solution) like GET ENOUGH SLEEP, sleep in a dark room, remove electronics, TV, computer, phone before going to bed.

I did see a specialist some time ago about my "problem" and he did say that probably my body was producing too much cortisol. I truly believe that eliminating these few things from my diet is helping me slowly get my hormones back on track.

I'm not saying it's the only way, but something I have learned from all of this (and I'm a veteran!) is to be open to EVERYTHING even if it means giving up - gasp! - bread. It's not the end of the world actually and there are so many wonderful options out there.

I'd rather feel good and healthy and rested and fit than have a sandwich, a donut, cake, <insert bready substance here>. Seriously. Be willing to try things within reason.

I'd be interested in seeing how it goes, Lyn. I understand leaving out a lot of processed foods; the thing that keeps me away mainly is that I'm a big fan of legumes. I eat many kinds of beans, lentils, and so on. Also eat quinoa, rolled or steel cut oats, etc.

I did cut out a lot of the highly processed wheaty and oaty stuff, but on the whole I have a hard time seeing lentils as a no-no food. Or quinoa, for that matter.

I'm in the middle of a round of Whole30. Busted a long standing plateau! I feel amazing . I used to say that I did Whole Foods Atkins+fruit. Well... I guess that's kind of primal, isn't it? I'm glad it's a 'thing' now. It'll make it easier for me to find food.
