Default Maintenance & Pregnancy

Hey Guys
Once I reach a comfortable weight and have found my maintenance groove my husband and I plan to try for our second child. Will maintenance be possible during pregnancy? The main reason I am here today is because I ate myself to 215lbs from 150 with my last kid and don't want to be in that boat again. I have learned to make better decisions but it's the structure of IP that really REALLY works for me (even though I love-hate it daily).

BTW…. I totally lost 20lbs & 25'' in my first month - WOOP

I was on maintenance for 3 months and found out I was pregnant I immediately called my coach and they told me I had to stop. It wasn't enough calories. I would keep a food log. You only need 300 more calories a day. I didn't keep a food log but didn't over eat either and still gained a good bit of weight for my second pregnancy not as much as my first though. Maybe it's in my genes. I would ask your OB what is a healthy calorie range while being pregnant if you choose healthy foods I think you will be ok. Congrats on your weight loss so far keep up the good work!

I am in the EXACT same situation - we want to try for #2 after I have hit goal and maintained. I talked about it with my coach and she did say I would have to phase off in case of an 'accident', I have quit taking my BCP in preparation (but still take precautions - i.e., oven mitts when baking cookies). When the time comes I want to discuss it with my Doctor as well (IP is run out of her office), but I suspect it will probably be something similar to a Phase 4/calorie-counting hybrid eating plan combined with a close monitoring of weight gain with my OB - since you really only need 300-500 extra calories/day above what your 'normal' range is (depending on trimester), and you will be changing your 'normal' to your new weight in maintenance. There is a 'Pregnant-Nursing' forum on 3FC also that I lurk occasionally.

I gained 60 my first pregnancy. I craved sweets. I gained 50 with my second pregnancy and ate very healthy.

I specifically asked this question at my last workshop to the Canadian top dawg as it applies to me as well (one day).

He said no Phase 1 (therefore no fun day), watch your calorie intake follow the separation of fat/carb and told me to use the products to help with cravings as they are a good choice.

Jury is still out on that one but now that I know that the soy is NON-GMO I might be ok using the products. I'll decide when I have too.

I would think that the maintenance program would be fine while being pregnant. At the end of the day, we do have a balanced diet. We have a normal amount of calorie intake so i don't think we would need to add more than any normal thin woman. Good luck

You get a fun day once a week where you can mix all your combinations so you can have fat and carbs together. Next day you take it all away and do one day of Phase 1, it's a way of shocking your metabolism and providing a day you can look forward too. Ie, I don't eat chocolate unless it's a free day (my choice only as I know it's my weakness).

Depends on who you are, not everyone tracks it...I'm fanatic about it, I don't think maile tracks it, she just listens to her body (which is technically what I should be doing lol).

I track it to keep my sense of calm, eventually I'll probably stop (probably not if I'm pregers)

I WAS told that you take your current weight and X by 10 and that's your maintenance...so far about right...but I do go up and down, especially if I excersise. For example I'm running about 1600 today and I'll have the strawberry wafer right after my run after work so I'll be at 1800 today.

I don't track on fun day or phase 1 day so I'm only tracking 5 days of the week.

(good questions for the maintainers thread too)

current weight and X by 10 (plus the extra 3-500 for baby) seems like sufficient calorie intake while pregnant so long as we are adequately eating from the 4 food groups! For me this would be 1400ish calories + babies calories.

that's just a theory I'm testing out though...and some days are 1780ish and some days are 1400 and this is only on the days that I track.

A LOT of people don't want to track and I do...so don't think you have to track MANY MANY people listen to their bodies, I just don't trust myself yet...I'm working on it!

I will ask my coach (or lack thereof) when I go in tomorrow!

I will not trust myself to not journal or track anytime soon…. I have been there with Weight Watchers, LA Weight Loss, Daily Plate etc etc etc….
