Default Mid Year to New Year's Challenge!

It's very, very quiet on 3FC! (I said this in December too!)

Summer is a bit dry on the boards because everyone is out enjoying life, swimming, playing, and eating! Slowly, as summer winds down and autumn begins, we'll see folks start to post more often!

In six short months, we're going to be talking about end of year celebrations like Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Year's!

So we're at MID YEAR! You have 6 solid months to decide what 2012 will say about YOUR weight loss. Are you having a great year so far? Are you going in a direction you don't want to be? This is your time. This is your mid year!

Where do you want to be January 1st, 2013?

So, here's the challenge:

Decide where you want to be in this journey on New Year's Day 2013. Calculate what you need to accomplish each month to make it happen. This will be the result at the end of the month. If you don't do goal weight/loss, feel free to make it whatever goal you want to meet by January 1st.

Then, cut and paste this format into your comment and come back and edit it EVERY month.

Goal:

Starting weight for the challenge:

July:
August:
September:
October:
November:

So I have a question. Is this going to be a check-in once a month thread? I'm currently doing my first challenge and I need more accountability than once a month. Are there going to be weekly check-ins as well?

Jessica, this is a good idea. Thanks for starting it. I am careful with time related goals because I have found in the past that I can get discouraged and then usually end up going backwards. They can backfire. With that in mind...

Goal:
I am committing to staying on my eating plan for the remainder of 2012 and I will not gain a single pound. I will consciously increase my exercise time.

Starting weight for the challenge: 237.6 (June 13)

July 13 : 234.2 down 3.4 pounds

August 31: 239.2 August was not good but ignoring it does not help. Back on track and Sept will be better.

September 13: 235.2 Being back on track helped and Sept. is better! Down 2.4 pounds since June 13

October 13: 232.2 Slow going but I am losing. Down 3 pounds in a month, 5.4 pounds since June 13
November:
December:

I, too, need more accountability, so I am breaking mine down into weeks. Hope that's okay. I also am a bit of a perfectionist, so I will want to run and hide if I don't make ambitious goals with weight loss numbers, and I won't want to do:-) it if the goals aren't ambitious enough. With this in mind, I will adopt the very moderate long-term goals of not abandoning my weight loss plans a single week for the next six months. I will be conscious of my eating, and will check in with 3FC at least once a week, and will exercise with some regularity. Since I am currently studying for the bar exam, and plan to take it in July, and then will start a new (exciting, but high pressure) job in August, I will be coming up on some weeks where that may be all I can reasonably do, and I need to adopt the attitude that doing it is praise-worthy and not a waste of time, even if it means there are weeks where I only maintain (or even gain a small amount).

Goal: Check in with 3FC once a week, be conscious of my eating, exercise 3 times per week every week until January 1, 2013.

Starting weight for the challenge (6/10 weigh in): 266

June 17:met all 3 parts of my goal; weight - 262.4

June 24: met the three parts of my goal; weight - 259.8
I
July 1: met all 3 parts of my goal; weight - 257

July 8: check on 3 parts of my goal; weight - 250.8 (post-TOM whoosh! Will it stay gone? Hope so!)

July 15:met all 3 parts of my goal; weight - 249.4 (slow loss, but I held onto my nearly seven-pound whoosh last week. good enough.) 51.6% body fat

July 22: been sick/stressed, and yesterday, ate a bit mindlessly, though not excessively. Also, have not exercised more than a few days this week due to vomiting, etc. So, not a great week scale-wise. 250.4 pounds, so up exactly one pound. However, glad I recorded fat percentage last week, as I am down to 50.9%, so at least a bit of progress somewhere. Weight loss is not linear, blah blah blah. Bar exam week, so will not be focusing on the scale at all. Hoping that eating well and working out will ease my stress. If so, wouldn't that be an amazing corner to turn?

July 29: 246.5. Bar exam week. Too much like a Twinkie diet kind of week. Underate because of bar exam nerves and caffeine. Then hard to get back on the Still. - checked in with 3fc, exercised a few times, and while I ate gross, nutrition -poor food, I didn't eat very much. New day. New week. New commitment to healthy weight loss. Still happy about dropping pounds this week, though.

August 5: 241.8, 52.2 percent body fat. Until last night's work-out, had trouble finding mystery mojo. But did okay going through the motion anyhow. Met all 3 parts of my goal, and had a loss. May be on target to hit Onederland by the New Year. Start my new dream job Monday, so it will be a new challenge.

August 12: 240.4 lbs. 48.8 percent fat. Super sore from lifting yesterday. Hope next week will be a bigger loss, but I just need to keep seeing the number go down. First week of work, so inadequate sleep as I try to adjust, but feeling good staying on plan.

August 19 (18): 239.8, 49.2 percent fat. Weighed in a day early, as we're taking my daughter to the airport at 4 am so she can go to Ecuador for eight months (Yay! and Boo!). SLOW going, but at least headed in the right direction!

August 26: 237.8, 48.2 percent fat. Not a perfect week, but perfect was never the goal.

September 2: 231. 4, 48.1 percent fat. 6.4 pounds! Crazy. Had a near-perfect food week and worked out hard, but that doesn't explain the high number. Totally not going to overanalyze it. Just going to spend the next week trying to maintain and capitalize on it!

September 9: 229.0, 47.8 percent body fat. 2.4 pounds, while Aunt Flo is still making her monthly visit. Feeling good. Kicking it in the gym. Wearing progressively smaller clothing. All good things, and I will have this time documented when it gets hard again.

September 16: 229.0, 48.4 percent body fat. Post-TOM even. I don't track food, but I wonder if I ate more because my water consumption was down? No matter. Weight loss is not linear, blah blah blah. Gonna step up the water consumption this week, and if my weight doesn't drop, totally going back to tracking -at least for a week or two. Gag! But got my bar results this week. Scored in the 96th percentile on the MBE. No loss, but still a great week!

September 23: 227.8, 52.6 percent body fat. Okay - I know body fat percentage is not completely accurate, but WTH? **sigh** I am not even going to care about it right now, frankly. Down 1.2 pounds. Slow loss after a no-loss week. But I was sworn in to the bar, I moved to Phase 2 of NROLFW, and I am feeling strong and increasingly fit. Restocked my office with Greek yogurt, grilled chicken breasts, protein bars, and tons o' water. Plus - got me some Honeycrisp apples. Going to be a great week!

September 30: 228.2, 51 percent body fat. Extra calories of garbage = gains. Who is shocked by this? Still after a few weeks of holding stead, dropping slightly, then gaining -my body should be primed for a new beginning! Each day brings with it opportunity for good decisions. I will seize some of those this week! Plus -I still love the awesome muscle hiding under my fat! I am strong, baby!

October 7:226.4, loss of 1.8 pounds. It will do. It would be awesome, in fact, if it were steady. Still, it seems I am going to be in the 220s for a very long time. I will just strap in and enjoy the ride. My FB page has a picture of me with my family from law school graduation, and then another one with friends at my swearing-in ceremony. The difference is pretty remarkable. So, even though I still feel as though I am essentially at my "starting" point, I am just going to try to take joy in the fact that I have made progress, and celebrate that I am maintaining a large loss, and if it's accompanied by a loss, all the better. (Yes, Kaplods - who no doubt is not reading this - I do greatly appreciate your words of wisdom.)

October 14: 221.2. Stopped looking at fat percentage cuz my scales measurement of it is clearly whack. So, 5.2 pounds down, a hugely exciting whoosh that all happened between Sunday and Monday. Since then, I have held steady. Interesting to watch the patterns. Just gonna keep going. Hopefully, I will be out of the 220s next week (or later this week!). I would love to be in Onederland by New Year's Day!

October 21: 225.2. Because of a processed, carb-filled weekend. Yay? Part of this. And I am inspired to do better, if only so I can feel better.

October 28: 224.2. Technically a loss, but I should have whooshed down after my carb splurge right before weigh in, but I didn't because of off-plan eating and not enough exercise. Not giving up, though. Stepped on the scale this morning even though I didn't want to, and am posting in 3FC.

November 4: After two weeks of struggling to stay on plan, and having the scale mess with my mind, I took a 12-day no-scale pledge. So while I had a great on-plan week, with lots of good exercise (3 days of lifting, 3 days of cardio), and post-TOM, I did not weigh in. Kind of sad about it, but hoping I will have a second really good week and get a strong scale result when I weigh next Sunday.

November 12: 219.4. Not as good as I wanted, but it's a starting point. And at least I am FINALLY out of the 220s.

November 18: 213.0. Rapid Fat Loss, baby. So excited about these amazing scale results, and I am trying hard to preserve muscle (heavy lifted three times). If the plan continues to work this well, I will be in Onederland by Christmas.

November 25: 215.2. Guess fries, chips, candy, and tears don't help with the scale.

December 2:
December 9:
December 16:
December 23:
December 30:
January 1!
