Question Can i go over my veggie limit?

So Praise God.. i found cabbage to be amazing in a veggie stirfry tonight along with some tofu shiritake noodles..HOWEVER... my entire stir fry consisted of 4 cups of veggies...so am i allowed to have some cut up veggies later for snack??? or no? Is there an actual limit on veggies that are allowable???

You are to have no more - and no less than - 4 cups/day. Veggies have carbs, and we are on a limited carb (and fat) protocol.

I'm not completely positive, and of course everyone's coach tells them something different, but from what I have learned, you should not have over the 4 cups of veggies a day because veggies can have a lot of carbs and take you out of ketosis. At the same day, I know someone posted recently that they thought you just had to get ATLEAST 4 cups of veggies, so who really knows. I wouldn't go over though just to be safe.

It's four cups total but some of us were told to measure them raw while others were told to measure them cooked. Four cups of spinach cooked vs. raw is a HUGE difference so I wouldn't worry to much if you go over...

Yeah, I'd stick with four cups uncooked every day. You'd hate to think you're doing something good by eating more and getting more nutrients only to kick yourself out of ketosis with the extra carbs.

I'm glad you asked because my hubby was asking me the same question. I know it said no more and no less than 4 cups per day on the protocol. But I have another part of the question. Is it supposed to be just the 2 cups at each meal, or 4 cups over the entire day? My hubby and I wanted to see if we had veggie snacks during the day, do we have to subtract that amount from the 4 cup total for the day?

If anyone knows the answer to that I would greatly appreciate knowing it!

You can spread some of the veggie 'allowance' out for snacks through the day, but yes it needs to be subtracted from the 4 cups/day. Now, having said that...there were posts here a while back from IPers reporting that their coaches had told them that celery is now considered a 'freebie' (like lettuce - meaning you can eat more of it if you're hungry). So imo if you want to snack on something in addition to the 4 cups/day maybe use celery? This is apparently a recent change in the protocol that not everyone was aware of.

My coach said if you need something extra the best thing to go over on is veggies.
Also I think a new protocol is starting that says cucumbers as well as celery are now considered free as evepet mentioned about the celery.
The fibre from the veggies is so important.

I heard someone else mention the cucumbers were now free, I think Wuv said she did cucumbers the whole time though so I'm taking a page from her book and working with that. I also see on the FDA website that the cucumbers are actually close nutritionally to things like cauliflower, and despite having lower Vitamin C content, they have half the carbs and less sodium, calories and fat per serving.

Celery and cucumbers were freebies for us!

YAY! Thanks evepet, patns, and Kaypix for the help! That will definately make it easier to get all my veggies in if I can space them out a little. I've been getting full at lunch and dinner with my protien and about half my veggies. And nice thing about the cucumbers too, since I tend to eat a lot of them.

I'm glad this question was asked, I was wondering about the veggies also. I was measuring them cooked, so I'll start measuring raw from now on. have a great day everyone!
