Smile Take the Stairs Saturday at the Beach DAILY 8/16

Most basement stairs have 10 steps. When you can't or don't want to exercise use your stairs. Go up and down them as many times as you can then add to it during the week.

When an elevator, lift, or escalator is around...LOOK for the stairs!

When going to a restaurant, shop, grocery store etc, park FAR away so you have to walk.

When talking on the phone, doing dishes, etc, MARCH in place.

Add movement to your ADL's.

Be creative and see what you can come up with....I am doing fanny crunches as I type...just what you needed to know, huh??

Mom's booboo still is bothering her and I advised her to stay home today and I would do the walking for her. She is gettting better.

It is cooloer at night and I am sleeping in...well a half hour is sleeping in for ME.

May you all have a great day and STAY AWAY from the scales. It can make you blue if the results aren't what you are expecting. They don't call him the Metal MONSTER for nuttin' ya know.

Weigh at the same time, same clothes (or none) every week. And PLEASE #'s are #'s health is your goal, weight loss is your gift.

Good Morning Marcie! Looks like we're the only ones up so early on a Saturday morning!

Your post today is so timely, since what you wrote about was my personal goal for this week. All week long I looked for ways to add extra steps into my day. I actually passed up great parking spots this week at work, at the mall, and at the grocery store and parked at the far end of the lot so that I would have to walk further. And at home, when I needed to use the bathroom, I walked up the stairs to use that one instead of using the one on the main floor. I also took the stairs whenever I could, and when walking from point A to point B, tried to take the longest route rather than the shortest. And I felt good about myself for doing all of that!

I did step on the scale today....Saturday is my official weigh-in day. I wasn't going to, since my TOM is due today, but did anyway. And I was glad that I did....even with my imminent TOM, I'm down 1 pound! I feel great about that.

Have a Super Saturday everyone!!!!

Timely post, Marcie. Ellis fixed my pedometer for me before my trip and I am looking forward to getting my 10,000 steps now that I'm home.

Good going, Twodogs! I can't use TOM as an excuse anymore unfortunately. My date with the darn scale is Monday morning so I'll assess the trip damage then. My jeans were hard to put on this morning so I worried a bit BUT discovered I hadn't unzipped!

I should be mainlining that coffee this morning as I still seem to be recovering from my trip. Our power is back on right now (I bet you knew that!) but we expect rolling blackouts for a while. I'm going to be well stocked with pails of water. Luckily there were not too many perishables in the fridge and the freezer held stuff very well so I'm not having to pitch much food. The money machines were down all day yesterday so I'm semi-cashless but know my local store will take a cheque. I love small towns!

We are going to have another scorcher but I am going to be a responsible Ontarian and not turn on the AC. Hershey and Lucy spent most of yesterday loafing in their wading pool. I may join them later.

Have a lovely Saturday!

Good Morning.

Good advice Lady. We have been living and sleeping downstairs for the last week or so because it's been so hot here.

Going up and down those stairs can give you a good workout.

Saturdays I always go to get DM groceries for the week and clean her apartment, so that is my exercise for the day.

Down another lb. this morning I can't believe this.

Well on to day 6

Have a good one

Hi Ruth, I'm glad you didn't have many food casualties with the power outage! And good for you for not wanting to use your AC...not everyone will be so conscientious, especially when it's so hot!! The wading pool sounds like a great idea....my neighbors think I'm crazy when they see me standing in the wading pool with my dogs....or rather, when they see me standing in the wading pool while the dogs play in the yard!

After seeing the segment about the SBD on Dateline, I'd like to contact the doctor! As heart specialist, he might find my comments interesting.

You see, I have Post Polio Syndrome and among one of the symptoms I'm dealing with is a calf of my leg that as little or no circulation and muscle tone. Therefore, I have severe edema (water retention) , with the skin splitting. I also have heart problems as I've had two bouts of atrial fibrillation and take meds for that. I' certain the water retention made my heart struggle. WELL, since on SBD, I have had little or no water retention! Yippee. My leg looks better than it has in years and I'm sure my heart isn't working as hard.

I haven't been on the scale yet, but I feel so much better! My clothing is looser, I feel so much better. I notice no salt cravings either.

Well, today I have to raid the freezer and do some grilling so we have cooked chicken breasts and stuff to put on our salads. Gotta research some recipes as we're slowly drifting into Phase 2.

HI ALL!!! Got power back last night.....and managed to NOT lose the groceries I bought the night before (luckily not much meat.) We still have to boil all our water before we drink it, but at least we HAVE water!! I know quite a few people (my parents included) had no water at ALL! They are talking about rolling blackouts here this afternoon, so I am keeping this short.

Another good reason to use the stairs: a woman was stuck in an elevator OVERNIGHT (18 hours) when the power went out here. Luckily someone heard her yelling yesterday morning.

Ellis' Dad came through the surgery well, but her computer died when the power came back on, so she will be MIA until she can buy a new computer. BUMMER!!!! Miss her already!!!

Today is our 22nd anniversary!!! We are going to have a nice quiet celebration AT HOME, since many businesses around here are still shut down.
Just my speed right now!!!

Den, thanks for the update on Ellis' Dad, I've been wondering how his surgery went and kept checking for updates. If you talk to Ellis tell her I'm happy that all went well. And I will definitely miss her here, hope she gets back on-line very soon!

And HAPPY 22nd ANNIVERSARY!!!! That is truly wonderful, not many marriages last that long these days!!!

Tippy, I'm so happy for you that you found SBD! It sounds like it's really helping with your health issues, and it sounds like it's doing the trick for your weight loss efforts also!

Zuze, you're doing great, keep it up!!!

Good Morning ladies! I am one of your faithful lurkers. Glad to hear power is coming back on-I hope everyone will be sensible with it so there aren't any problems restoring it to all those affected. What an experience.
Lady-what is ADL? I also think you wrote the line about "health is your goal, weight is your gift" I really like that and think I will print it up pretty and put it on my fridge!
I just spent the last 12 days on the coast in Oregon working on our little place up there. I wandered to the boardwalk too many times for comfort and was really worried about a big weight gain. I was up there by myself and just let go-lesson learned-I need my internet and husband close by to be accountable to! Fortunately I did not gain probably because I was working my slowly dimishing rear off!! These trips to Oregon are WORKING VACATIONS. So now, I must NOT get cocky about this-I need to catch up on the posts here and at Prevention and FOCUS on my new WOE since next week I go back to a full time desk job that I don't enjoy.
A fun tidbit to share with you-I had ordered some shirts and pants for work before I left. Well, I have to return them all because they are just too big! I also caught up with my mail and was happily looking thru my large size catalogs and realized DUH-I can start looking a Misses sizes. Well, I can look at Misses for the top half, the bottom half is still in the Women's department!
I'm off to read posts from the last few days. With school starting up again I will have even less internet time, I'm thinking of posting on Saturdays or Sundays to keep in touch. Stay cool!

Sierra,

Lady-what is ADL? I also think you wrote the line about "health is your goal, weight is your gift" .

ADL is Activities of Daily Living and yes, I wrote that and try to live by it.

Continued good Luck.

I love coming to this forum. Just reading your posts have been so helpful. This is day #5 for me and even though I promised not to go on the scale.....I did. 4 lbs. in 4 days!!!!!! Who knows, I might just loose a few more before my son's wedding in November . I hope I will have more to report in the future.

BTW, how do I find your chat line?
