Default Oatmeal

Is it just me, or is oatmeal the most delicious thing in the world?

To be honest, I used to hate the stuff. The texture disgusted me.

The solution, adding crunchy apples! Yuuum. I also add ground flax seed, pumpkin or sunflower seeds (or both), lots of cinnamon, a bit of nutmeg, and a tiny bit of tumeric for the health benefits (not enough so I can taste it though). I also add a tiny bit of brown sugar because it brings the flavours together nicely.

It's super yummy. If you hated oatmeal as a child/teen I suggest you try it again!

Ooo plus oatmeal is cheap and you can buy a big ol' bag of it! Same reason I love beans...mmm...

What do you guys usually eat for breakfast?
OR
How do you make your oatmeal?!

I usually eat oatmeal for breakfast every day. Love it. I put some sultanas and dried apricot in mine, cook it in water, and add a little low-fat milk at the end. It tastes so delish topped with brown sugar but as I buy the flavored oatmeal in sachets there is plenty of sugar already in there; I really don't need to add more.

Yum. Can't wait for breakfast tomorrow!

I make mine savoury with milk and a little bit of feta cheese, walnuts and some blueberries or goji but I have been known to add various things such as roasted chilli pepper and tiny slices of onion.

steel-cut oats with extra-old cheddar cheese... mmm... used to give that to my failure-to-thrive daughter.

when i have the caloric wiggle room, i'm going to resume eating my breakfast cereal:

steel-cut oats
psyllium fibre
3 types of dried fruit
then served with home-made brown sugar (white sugar plus blackstrap molasses)
and a sprinkle of hemp hearts.

For 2/3 a cup which is for two people (PS if you want 1/2 go for it, I just followed the instructions on my oatmeal bag), I add probably... 1 1/2 tablespoons. I honestly just eyeball it. Then I add 1 and 2/3 cups water.

I find oatmeal's pretty flexible, so you can kind of add however much of whatever you want. Just make sure to adjust the water if you'll have something that sucks up water or adds moisture.

Savory oatmeal sounds really interesting! I'll have to try it your way one day since I'm not sure I want to wing it myself the first time. Do you add anything other then the roasted red peppers spice/herb wise?

So many good suggestions: cheese, dried fruit, blue berries, walnuts (I know my bf would love that one). Thanks everyone. I will definitely have to vary my oatmeal routine now!

I love steel cut oatmeal and usually have it with any fruit I have around, maple syrup and cinnamon. I am going to buy the oat groats next time as I found a way to cook it in 20 mins in the morning, same as the steel cut. I just have to let it soak overnight.
