Default Hysterectomy Anyone?

I've gained roughly 30 pounds since my hysterectomy nine months ago. A friend told me that after her surgery, she lost weight. Not the case for me. I'm wondering if my surgery is tied to my fast gain of 30 pounds or if it is just me, self-sabotaging. Anybody out there have any experience with this?

I don't personally but a friend of mine gained after her hysterectomy. It caused her body to go into menopause and menopause is known to be a weight gainer.....it effects your hormones.

I'm managing the menopause naturally (no drugs or hormones) because it hasn't been that bad so far. Oh well. Two days on this journey. I'll weigh once a week. Hopefully I'll be able to make some progress. Grrr.

I gained, too. Unfortunately, taking out the uterus causes the ovaries, if spared, to shrivel up, due to a loss of full blood-flow. Sometimes, if you are lucky they hang around longer and work fine. Within five months of my hysterectomy, I was having hot flashes. Taking DHEA put a stop to that.
I was unfortunate that my doc wasn't clever enough to try and figure out what was hormonally occuring to me...a period for 55 days, no end in site. I was probably just low in progesterone. I was so depleted of iron...too sick to think for myself. I just allowed her to take my uterus at age 30. Rubbing on some progesterone cream would have been easier.

I had the ovaries and uterus removed (along with my appendix). I suspect I've been going through early menopause for years, which is probably why I don't really see a huge difference in symptoms. I think the quicker weight gain is linked though.

I still have overies.....but I did gain after and it is so very much harder to loose. Wish I had better news on that front. To assist in boosting metabolisim, I take supplements. I don't know for a fact if they help, but at least in my head they help And I am sure what the head thinks, the body must believe. LOL

I gained an intense amount of weight after my hysterectomy. I had my ovaries out too and the doc said the sudden thrust into menopause messed up my weight. Course, knowing that doesn't help me lose the weight!!

I had my hysterectomy back at the beginning of November. I was not going through menopause. I kept my ovaries, so I am not suffering from it yet (I'm 44, so I know its around the corner). I, too, gained weight. When I went into the hospital I was around 187 / 188. I hit the 200 lb mark mid-February and that is what made my going back on weight watchers. I've lost 11 pounds so far in 3 weeks, so the program still works without a lot of issues.

I have also started with the supplements. I feel a whole lot better taking a multi and an extra B complex and iron tablet.

Default Yep, I had one @ 42~

I'm new here, so hope I'm doing this right. I had a complete hysterctomy @ age 42. Withing the year I had gained 50 lbs, which I am finally trying to lose! It is slowly coming off. I also never had a fat tummy...certainly do now.

Your story is just like mine. Complete hysterectomy at 42 (they took the appendix too). I've been gaining like crazy ever since. I wasn't paying attention so the fault is totally mine so now I'm working to take the weight off and know that from now on, I have to watch it like a hawk.

I have fibroids but they haven't been a big deal. My Doc wants me to use progesterone cream (yuck) because of premenstrual mood fluctuations etc. I didn't want to do it but now she says that if I don't do it and I don't lose weight, I will end up having a hysterectomy. Did anyone else have a doctor tell them this before they had their hysterectomy?
