Default Just what ARE those "5 foods to never eat"?

You know, you see that cheesy-looking ad with a sketch of a banana that says "5 Foods to never eat: Cut down a bit of your belly every day by never eating these 5 foods. >Never eat"? I click on that ">" and all that appears is an ad for something with a video on it, and I presume those 5 foods are mentioned in the video, but I'm not going to sit through it since for the time being my only computer access is @ work

LOL, I don't have any idea, I'm always to scared to click on those ads, I'm always afraid of downloading some kind of virus. I hope someone has been braved/bored & watched it though. I'd like to know what 'they' say.

I haven't seen that one- but the targeted marketing bot has put a "15 Foods Never To Eat" ad right next to this page, haha. Anyway, I think it varies for people, you know? Personally, if I want to lose weight I really have to limit my carbs. If I eliminate things like pasta, rice, etc (even whole wheat and brown rice) then I can lose weight. If I don't eliminate those foods, I really struggle. I think other people have their own problem foods, probably.

Well I was just reading a Natural Health Magazine yesterday at the doctor's office, and they were talking about natural ways to detox your body. In the article, the nutritionist said stay away from the "Big Five". Apparently in health circles it is known that The Big Five are Dairy, Meat, Alcohol, Caffeine and Gluten. Apparently they are either difficult for your body to digest or have negative effects on the body. Idk if that is the same idea they are talking about in the internet ad, but Id guess it probably is.

Dairy, Meat, Alcohol, Caffeine and Gluten?

What's left to eat?

If I recall, I think the list was something like:

Potato Chips,
Sodas/Soft Drinks,
Sugar/High Fructose Corn Syrup,
White Bread,
Transfats

I don't recall meat. gluten or dairy being on the list as broader categories.

I know there are a couple of lists out there. Once again, I'm not positive, but this is what I remember from one thing I read. Pretty much stuff we already knew.

Just remembered......
There was also a list out there compiled by scientists that had:
Canned Tomatoes - because of the can liner - although I eat loads of them
Non Organic Potatoes - because they absorb pesticides
Regular Farm Grown Apples - pesticides again
Farm Raised Salmon instead of Wild Salmon
Don't remember #5

These were actually things that were much less obviously "junk food" and things that I do eat. Much more intriguing, and although I do try to eat the best possible food available, sometimes I don't have it in me to obsess.

This list and the last list I posted both lead to programs that promoted, fresh, whole and organic foods (selling books, etc).

As I said there are several lists out there, and most of them do lead you to some pretty healthy food choices.

Everyone is selling something.

like you said, everybody's got a hand out.

personally, i LIKE meat. i cannot function without meat - i was eating red meat pretty much daily and my iron levels were only average. were i to follow the recommended "twice weekly" servings of red meat, i'd be anaemic in no time.

i don't find it hard to digest at all - well, except the tougher cuts of beef if they're raw (yes, there's been times i've gotten out of the gym and been SO STARVED that i literally knocked back a raw steak). those gave me gas.

What's this I hear about rice in general, and brown rice in particular, absorbing arsenic? Something else to panic about

I never get the "meat is so bad for you" mentality. As lifters, how the heck would we get enough protein otherwise anyway? I'm not really keen on too many artificial means of doing so even though I do enjoy my protein shakes.

I have chicken every day. They can take my grilled chicken from me when I'm dead.

Oh god and a good steak? LOVE IT.

I'm an on and off lifter. More off now than on but I've gained muscle as a vegan (no meat, no dairy, no eggs). Just means you eat a lot of beans, veggies and whole grains. You actually don't need a ton of protein to build muscle. Old time lifters (prior to the supplement boom of the 80s) actually ate a pretty average amount of protein.
