Question Are there any lawyers out there?

Hello... I was wondering if there were any lawyers here on our lovely board. I'm having a tough time with my employer paying my wages and I could really use some help understanding some of the labor laws, and how they may differ between the states (I'm in Texas, and a lot of people here seems to think that the laws differ from the Federal Laws, which I think is rubbish) and I might need some advice about how to file a complaint or finding a way to get the pay that I am due. I have all of my pay stubs.

I am not going to bore everyone with the details, but if you're a lawyer or know one who can help a broke kid try to get what they're owed, I would greatly appreciate any help. I can supply details in a private message.

Thanks everyone!

Well, I'm not a lawyer, but each state has a division that deals with labor law violations. For example, in Oregon, it's Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries. I did a google search, and it looks like Texas is Texas Workforce Commission. Do a google search for Texas Labor Laws and see what you come up with. Then you can call them and ask some questions, however, I don't know if you can be anonymous or not, so be prepared to open a case, (or at least a headache), against the employer. They are there for you as the employee to use so you don't get taken advantage of. Good luck.

You probably need to contact the State of Texas Workforce Commission and file a grievance.

This is a good summary of the laws in Texas from the Texas Bar Association: http://www.texasbar.com/Content/Navi...loymentLaw.pdf

The Texas Workforce Commission also offers these instructions on filing a wage claim:

Thanks everyone! The links were helpful and I found a lot of information to back me up, thankfully!
I'm handing in my two weeks notice on Monday, and all of this information can really help me get my back-pay.
