Default Darn Knees

So, I started running and I am noticing that my right knee feels a lot stiffer than my left knee. I weighed 235 and now am at 224.6. I am not sure if it is from the impact on my knees. Should I just walk until I lose more weight and then try running? ugh.

Maybe you need different shoes but also it could depend on the ground you're running on. Try icing your knees after your workouts and see if that helps.

I recommend seeking guidance from a pro or personal instructor. They can look at your current health status, your goals and create a plan for you. I say this as one who is in post-destroyed knee status. I didn't ask advice and now have permanent knee injuries. So check with your gym or a nearby gym for consultation. My sister wasn't part of a gym but did hire someone for a consultation and six week starter plan.

You could try putting more supportive insoles (or getting better shoes) in, wrapping the knee when you run, and running on blacktop instead of cement. You get a lot more force rebounding on your body when you run on harder surfaces, like cement. Even better would be an earthen path, if you can find one. Columbus' metroparks have lots of surprising running paths, so maybe your hometown does too!

I had stiff knees when I started until I got the proper running shoes and ran on the asphalt instead of the cement sidewalks. Hope that helps.
