You can maintain your weight on more than 1200 calories a day, I would venture to say that nost people at goal eat more than 1200 a day. I eat about 1350-1400 to maintain.

I think 1200 calories might be a bit low for a lot of people.

I could never survive on 1200 calories. Maybe when I weigh less than I do now, but I need a lot more than that to keep moving and feel healthy.

This is so variable. It depends on your weight, height, activity level, age, etc. There is no "one size fits all" regarding maintaining a weight loss.

Experiment, figure out what calorie intake suits you, eat a healthy mix of foods, exercise regularly, see how it goes.

There are those of us who gain weight on 1200 calories per day. I'm one of them. Sorry, folks, but it is true. Therefore I must eat a bit lower, and that is what I am doing. I'm 85, and doing just fine with a lower calorie intake.

It's just that that 1200 calories per day rule is not exactly written in stone anywhere. I've found out that my slower metabolism requires that I tinker with it a bit.

Don't snarl at me, I am being very careful with what I eat. I consult with my nutritionist and my PCP regularly. It is certainly best that you get your proper nutrition via your food intake, but vitamin supplements are available if needed.
