March-a-doodle-do Thread!

Okay, kids! Let's get this party started! :carrot:

Mrs Snark 03-03-2016 10:57 AM

Yippee! March! About to change the clocks. Warmer weather, ahoy! I am giving my dogs their springtime shave down. They all look so much thinner after being groomed. I wish I could do that to myself.

Mrs Snark 03-03-2016 01:52 PM

I just bought some extra zucchini and mushrooms at the store today. No commitment, but they are in the house.

Magicsusan 03-03-2016 03:23 PM

I just had zukes stuffed with quinoa, a lá Guac. Was really tastey!

I'm also desperate for spring, but it snowed today and the forcast is... so bad I can't think of something to compare it to.

guacamole 03-03-2016 08:46 PM

Woo hoo! Magic - so glad you liked the zucchini! Mrs. Snark - you can do wonderful things with zucchini and mushrooms!

I made a slow cooker Mexican vegetable quinoa dish today. Really tasty, and the texture kind of reminded me of the bread stuffing I love so much around Thanksgiving time, but healthier. I also made an awesome sesame noodle dish - using spaghetti squash. This is the second time I've made it, adapted from my recipe that uses actual pasta, and it's gotten good reviews from my family.

So great news - I think I mentioned in the February thread that the supposed ovarian cysts/endometrium were a misread. Today I got the news (from the head of MRI radiology of the hospital I go to) that a supposed nodule found on my lung was a shadow and nothing more. Can you say relief? I'm in this weird place where I'm pissed nothing was really wrong because I've been worried sick these past weeks. Isn't that messed up? Of course I'm thrilled that everything is normal!

So now that I'm not dying quite yet, I can move on to the not so pleasant work of scheduling spine surgery this summer for a lesion that unfortunately is NOT a shadow and must be removed - but it is benign - so once it's gone I can forget about it. I'm starting physical therapy for my back next week, so that I can be in the best possible shape before the surgery and possibly help my recovery along after surgery. I have disc degeneration in addition to the surgical issue, so it's all piling on at once.

Anyway, enough about my medical saga!! Hope you all had a great day!

Magicsusan 03-04-2016 02:10 AM

Oh, Guac, lols at being pissed at the much ado about nothing, but I'm so glad it's just the *cough* straightforward spinal lesion you have to deal with. We'll be here to cheer you through PT and recovery!

veggiedawg 03-04-2016 09:14 AM

Holy Guacamole! Spine surgery?!!? Eek! That's one of those spots that make me cringe--hearing about operations on the spine or the eyes (although, I'd love not to wear glasses anymore). Glad to hear it was just a shadow on the lung scan.

Things are going well here. Ate fine yesterday, checked the calories on those little cakes on in the freezer and they aren't worth it. The kids will finish them off tonight, and I know not to buy them again. Too much temptation. It's hard because I don't want them to suffer, LOL. That's so warped! They don't need the junk either!

Do you all go to bed hungry?

Magicsusan 03-04-2016 12:37 PM

I don't go to bet hungry. I eats lots of bulky foods, (fruit/veg) and whole grains that take a long time to digest, so it's fine. I don't go to bed stuffed, though! That never works out well. I can't sleep well...

veggiedawg 03-05-2016 06:52 AM

Sad morning. I was sure I'd be posting that I was at 190lbs today. But I ate 3 oatmeal chocolate chip cookies yesterday and gained a couple pounds. (SERIOUSLY?!) I'm not sure what is me and what is the scale but that sucks. Waaaaahhhhh! (not that time of the month or anything...)

Magicsusan 03-05-2016 12:06 PM

Get right back to it, Veggie, you got this! And remember those things also pack a lot of hidden salt which will make you retain water. Let it go and keep to your program! :cheer2:

veggiedawg 03-05-2016 05:32 PM

Thanks MagicS, I will get back on plan. 'Went out and walked today for about 40 minutes--I'm trying to start exercising again. DH is going to put some music on my cell phone since my MP3 player is pretty old and the batteries die quickly.

One good thing happened today. My son had a dentist appointment this morning because his teeth were bothering him so bad that he was sent home from school. Ends up that it's just molars coming in! Phew! I was sure we were going to have to do some sleep dentistry on him again. I'm so happy!

Ok. I'm determined to get out of the 190's this week, darn it! Time to get angry! Grrrrr!

RollerDerbyLexi 03-06-2016 10:05 PM

March

Veggie you most likely had something with tons of salt. Whenever I chow on pickles I always end up putting LBS on.

This lovely Sunday I did lot of extra exercise to drink wine. It was worth the hour bike ride! I almost feel like I'm not on a diet.

For lunch I had way too many veggies and felt stuffed and bloated all day after. I won't do that again.

Tommorrow I'm a week into my 60 day diet!
Whoo Hoo, I made it a week WITHOUT cheating! :hat:

[pat's on my back]

Mrs Snark 03-07-2016 06:59 AM

I'm sooo glad about the good news, Guac! Yay!

You deserve a WHOOSH down, Vdawg, fingers crossed you get one soon! I swear my body likes to randomly retain water out of spite.

Great job Lexi! Way to commit to your plan!

I have to go shopping today for stuff other than food. I dislike shopping for stuff intensely. I just want the same stuff I have had for years to be available so I can get exact replicas - shoes, clothes, towels, sheets. I want what I already have, just new. I would honestly wear the same clothes every single day if people wouldn't think I'm crazy.

veggiedawg 03-07-2016 10:39 AM

Mrs. Snark, I don't enjoy shopping either. Well, that's a lie, I do like online shopping. LOL "What? A gift for me?!!? Delivered to my door?! How marvelous!"
My daily uniform is a v-neck t-shirt and jeans. I have v-necks of many colors.

Maybe you ladies are right about the salt. I did have a "healthy" meal with a bunch of sliced olives, maybe I went overboard. I'll watch out for that in the future.

Way to go Lexi! And I love your biking/wine trade off!

Ok, a new week. I ran to the grocery store already so I'm set.

Oh, do you all use coconut oil? Has it made a difference, do you think?

Magicsusan 03-09-2016 02:48 PM

Switzerland is rapeseed country, plus this close to Italy, olive oil so I can't comment. I just try to go as lightly on the oil as possible.

Lol on the uniform, Mrs Snark. All I can think off is Adrian Monk, wearing the same thing every day. I don't mind shopping, but I understand you. Sometimes I just resent having to think about that stuff. I want to use my brain for other things!

Magicsusan 03-09-2016 02:49 PM

And hi Lexi! You're new around here, aren't you? Pull up a toadstool!

veggiedawg 03-10-2016 03:42 PM

Hope everyone is doing well staying on plan! I'm trudging along, resisting temptations for the most part. :)

My middle child has been home sick with an earache this week. It's been a roller coaster. She feels better, then she's worse, fever, no fever, energy, no energy. I tried taking her to the ER today (it's what is used as a walk in clinic here. strange, I know) But, we waited almost 3 hours and they still didn't call her in. I couldn't wait any longer, since my other 2 will be off the bus in a minute. sigh. I want a treat. What a sucky day. It's also rainy.

Wishing you all sunshine and rainbows! LOL

Magicsusan 03-11-2016 12:00 AM

Aw, I hope she feels better soon, Veggiedawg. That's no fun. Maybe you can find yourself a treat that doesn't do damage? A nice cup of apple tea and 15 minutes 'me' time?

veggiedawg 03-11-2016 02:46 PM

Thanks MagicS, DD is so much better today!!! Before and after, we went to the hospital yesterday, I put peroxide in her ear and it seems to have done the trick--even though over the counter med's weren't. She had me nervous though, when she said she wasn't hearing well. She went outside and did a cartwheel this afternoon, so that was a pretty dramatic recovery. :)

After today, is the kids March break. DH took the week off too. We'll be using the time to ready our house for selling. DH has been working out of town during the week for a couple years now. I'm not thrilled about moving, but hopefully it will be for the best. At least, we would be together again!

Oh yeah, I've been eating ok. But, maybe drinking too much coffee in replacing the food. (I put a bit of sugar in my coffee. bad girl)

MagicS, did you finally get out running again? Do you run on the road or trails?

Hope everyone is doing well today!

Magicsusan 03-13-2016 09:53 PM

Well, that was the weekend from ****.
Ordered pizza for Thirdling's bd, made cake, waffles for breakfast and helped them eat it all. Also, Veggiedawg, didn't go running. I'm really trying to change my black and white all or nothing thinking, but I have to admit, I'm feeling a bit crappy right now- not helped by the fact that it's nearly 3:00 and I can't sleep- pretty sure the food is keeping me awake. That and worrying about my kids and their choices.
Ever meet people who seem to be intelligent, but just keep shooting themselves in the foot? That's us :\

veggiedawg 03-14-2016 09:47 AM

(((Hugs, MagicSusan)))
I hope things look brighter today! Boy, you make me look forward to the teenage years--NOT ONE BIT!!!
Ok MagicS, time to drink a ton of water, go for a walk and get back on track!

Yesterday, DH did groceries. So, now we have carbs everywhere! White bread, Brown bread, English muffins, Hot Cross buns...? (only 2 of these items were on the grocery list) I hope this all gets eaten quickly. I didn't mention the chips and snacks...sigh.

Have a good day--look away from temptation! Look Away! :)

Magicsusan 03-14-2016 04:27 PM

Thanks, Veggiedawg. I did have a better day today. I can sympathize on the husband shopping. I've got one of those. It's even worse when he cooks. Deep fried carbo salt bombs with cheese sauce, anyone?

It's still cold here and the dry east wind that comes in from Siberia is really ripping through me. I want spring.

veggiedawg 03-15-2016 05:16 PM

I want Spring too! I've been looking at the kids snow pants, wondering if it's safe to pack them away. Freaky things can happen! (my Narcissus are starting to peek up though and my neighbors are tapping the maple trees)

I've been doing ok, cheated with a bit of ketchup flavor rice chips, but I shouldn't gain from it. (((knock wood)))
Skimmed through the book Eat to Live online, and I might try to incorporate more of the tips from it next week. It's a very low carb, vegan diet. But I'd like to see the scale move! LOL

Hope everyone is having a great day!

guacamole 03-15-2016 07:56 PM

Hello, ladies! I think Spring is finally here...watch us have a snow storm. I've been doing ok on calories, but consuming too much sodium. As a result, I think the scale isn't going down because of water weight. I really need to get a grip on my diet. Eat to live sounds interesting I am eating a lot of vegan food, but it's not low carb enough - meaning I eat whole grains, and maybe too much of them? I've been avoiding temptation in the way of cakes and cookies. I did have some sushi with white rice, and yesterday I dabbled in the tortellini I made for my family. It's hard always cooking them things I wish I could have, while I stick to my own food (even though I like my food). It would be so much easier if I lived alone in a remote Alaskan cabin! I'm sure I could stick to my diet then!

Mrs Snark 03-16-2016 08:35 AM

It is already hot here, blah.

I put the AC on yesterday, blah.

Vdawg, your husband shops like my husband, blah.

I have a case of the blahs, in case that wasn't obvious.

veggiedawg 03-16-2016 09:08 AM

Guacamole-the Eat to Live diet seems to want you to only eat 1 portion of whole grains or starchy vegetable per day.

It's fruits and nuts for breakfast, salad and beans for lunch and salad and steamed veggies for supper, with fruit for dessert. So, throw in that 1 portion of grains where ever you want. (this is the 6 week weight loss diet)

Totally doable, right? LOL

Mrs. Snark- I hope your day gets un-blahed! :) I don't function too well in the heat--A/C is my friend.

MagicS- Congrats on another week of weightloss! That rocks!

guacamole 03-17-2016 04:55 PM

veggie - that sounds like a pretty strict diet...and one that I would be hungry on. I don't think I could do it! :dizzy:

I've totally been eating too many carbs and salt though. I need to tighten up my diet if I want the scale to move down.

veggiedawg 03-18-2016 01:07 PM

I hope everyone had a nice St. Patrick's Day yesterday. I ate on plan...until we went out for icecream. Ha! I got a small cherry sundae. (I just checked-240 calories with 37 grams of sugar.)

DH has plans to buy burrito's from a take out place tomorrow, so I'll have to be pretty strict to make room for it. (it's about 500-560 calories)
Good luck me! LOL

Have a great day ladies!

guacamole 03-18-2016 06:24 PM

veggie - I think we have to treat ourselves sometimes! My litmus test is if I really enjoyed my treat is was worth it, so I'd better save my splurges for things that are favorites. I don't feel bad if I enjoyed it, but to waste calories on something just so-so is disappointing.

veggiedawg 03-19-2016 08:05 AM

Guacamole- I am so with you on that! :) I wouldn't be able to live on a diet long term without some indulgences. It's eye-opening when you discover the actual calories that are in the yummy treats though. I love that they are listed online so you can be accountable....or just cry, "What have I done?"

Have a great day!

veggiedawg 03-22-2016 09:16 AM

Good Morning Ladies!

Are you all getting ready for Easter? I need to pick up some treats to hide in plastic eggs today. Hopefully, stuff the kids really like and that I don't!

Still just trudging along. The burrito event is over. I thought I'd just be eating a small, but DH bought me one with BAV written on it. Big A@# Veggie. Seriously?! I didn't finish it but I stuffed myself good...it was kinda sickening.

We got the real estate agent over and papers signed. Waah! I hate trying to sell the house. Stressful and depressing. I get so anxious because the house is never perfect.

Hope you are all doing well. Mrs. Snark are you still drinking? (just kidding!)

guacamole 03-22-2016 04:34 PM

Hello, ladies! I've been really busy lately. The kids are keeping me on my toes, and my husband was out of town this weekend, so it was mom duty. I'm feeling really tired. I had physical therapy today, and wow, my back was in bad shape from all the housework I have been doing. Can you say 100lbs of laundry? Hopefully the massage and exercises got some of the kinks out. I was practically crying on the table as she poked and prodded. We are deep into spring cleaning here, my son is doing the lion's share. I have been slowly chipping away at my closet - what a mess! I have like, 5 different sizes of clothing. Hard to know what to give away - am I an optimist or a pessimist? I have 2 bags of things to give away and I haven't even gone through the hanging things. One thing I have noticed is that I have given away almost all of my high heeled shoes. I guess my shoes are reflecting my age, because I am a flats gal now!

Have a great day!

Horde 03-23-2016 12:09 AM

Guac - I'm new; but I say you're an optimist ;)

NinersChick 03-23-2016 02:09 PM

Hiya, ladies. Is it cool if I jump in here? I used 3FC to lose weight about 5 years (??) ago. I have been putting on about 5#s a year since then so I am back. Right now my big plan is just to get back to the gym for my own sanity.

veggiedawg 03-23-2016 02:37 PM

Guacamole- I'm sorry PT hurt so much :( Pain reliever beforehand next time? That's great that your son is helping with the spring cleaning! I need one of those type of helpers! I have a bunch of stuff to donate too--mostly kids clothes. I had been keeping it in a box in the laundry room and the kids keep grabbing clothes from it. (((shaking head))) Can't they tell that the shirt doesn't fit as they struggle to put it on?

Hi ya Horde & NinersChick! Jump right in!
Do you go to the gym for aerobic classes or weights or machines or all of the above?

Well, I've got all my Easter eggs stuffed with chocolates, candy, gum and wee toys. Only sampled a few treats, so I'm pretty happy with myself. LOL! (I still bought too much though) But the left overs aren't treats that would call to me like chocolate would, so I should be safe. :)

Have a great day!

NinersChick 03-23-2016 02:50 PM

Thanks!

Oooo, you have more will power than I! I couldn't even have the gross candy in the house. For some reason my brain still thinks eating sugar when I am tired will give me energy. How many kids do you have?

My favorite thing to do at the gym is weight lifting. I go late night/early morning so I have never taken an aerobics class. I use the cardio equipment also since it will be too hot here in AZ to do much outside. Do you go to a gym? Do you have a favorite exercise?

veggiedawg 03-23-2016 03:22 PM

NinersChick- I have 3 kiddo's. They are all elementary school age and they are counting down the days until Easter! Do you have kids?

Nah, I'm not a gym person. I need to get back exercising regularly--last time I was on a weight loss kick, pilates was my thing. Years before, I did the couch to 5K running, but I cannot run on pavement only dirt trails. I would love to try paddle boarding someday--ha, says someone who could never skateboard and is not so great in a canoe...yeah, it maybe an accident waiting to happen :)

NinersChick 03-23-2016 03:42 PM

Well, you could record you on a paddle board and become a YouTube star. :)

I am with you on the pavement thing. I read somewhere that asphalt is better than sidewalks because it's softer. I have been tossing around the idea of doing to C25K again. It made me feel enpowered to be able to run for 30 minutes.

I have too many kids. My oldest is 24. My youngest (right now) is 8 months. He is my foster son.

Do you work outside the home?

veggiedawg 03-24-2016 07:48 AM

No videotaping, please! :) SPLASH!

I agree, it was awesome to be able to run (slowly) for 30 minutes. I was never able to do that as a kid, so actually succeeding as an adult was amazing.

Too many kids! Oh no! That's a big age gap-24 and 8 months. Life must be chaotic! (I'm kinda happy to be out of the baby years.)

Nope. I don't work outside of the home. I don't have childcare around here to do that. If we move, I might like to get something part time.

Well, the kids are off today since there's a freezing rain warning (buses wont run). Lucky monkeys! March break and then another 5 days off!!! Glad I bought extra snacks this week!

Have a good one everybody!!!

guacamole 03-25-2016 05:34 PM

Just popping in to say hi to veggie, niners, and horde! Thanks for keeping the thread going for those of us too scatterbrained to post often.

I'm still working through my closet (it's really not that big, but it's a small walk-in where every inch of space top to bottom is used). I filled another bag of old pajamas, exercise clothing that is worn through, and old stretched out sweaters. So many old clothes that I haven't worn in years! I basically am saying to myself that if I haven't worn it in over a year, there is a reason, and it goes in the donation bag. I think as I get older I have to really stick to doing this each year, otherwise I will be prancing down the street in 1980s florescent gear just because it's in my closet and I don't want to be wasteful. It's been at least 2 or 3 years since I last organized and weeded out my closet, so if I start doing it every year, it shouldn't be as big of a job as it is now.
