Default Please advise on exercise calories vs. eating calories

Trying to figure out something here (see my last post before this one).
So I found this site that states how many calories you burn per minute for various things from reading a book to snow shoveling.

Anyway according to this, during a regular day for me it says I burn about 1100 calories and this is probably on the low end. When I plan my eating, I eat between 1800-2000 calories. So if I dont eat the exercise calories, does this mean I am only eating 1800-2000 minus the 1100 (which would be roughly 700-900 calories a day)?

Also, I have always heard that regular everyday activities that you do on a regualr basis dont count towards your exercise calories. is this correct?? Ex: If I work a job that cause me to walk or stand during the day except for breaks, I cant count any calories toward exercise calories.....I would have to do something extra that I dont do everyday....I heard your body gets accustomed to this and the calories dont count.

Please elaborate as I am really trying to figure all this out so i can loose this weight. Thank you so much!!

Here's my simple way of looking at it.

1. If you are eating 1800-2000 calories per day but only burning 1100, that means you are eating an EXCESS of calories. You want to be eating LESS calories than you burn.

2. I really doubt that you are only burning 1100 calories a day.

3. All calories burned during the course of a day, from exercising, to doing your normal routines, to breathing air, count.

4. To lose weight, eat fewer calories than your burn. Then your body needs to look to itself to "fund" the deficit.

There was a wonderful link to an article that really explains this well. I'm going to track that down for you and will post it here.

Good luck; you can do this!!

Okay, I'm back.

Here is the link to the article that I was referring to. I thought it was a great article on really cutting through all the clutter and focusing on what's truly going on.

And if you are interested, here is a link to the original thread in 3fatchicks where I learned about it. If you read the thread, you'll get to see what a whole bunch of different people, all at different stages in this process, thought about it. The comments were overwhelmingly positive and may serve to be a good read, too.

Again, best of luck to you. Keep posting and asking questions!

Oh, finally, one last caveat. I don't count calories LOL so take what I say with a grain of salt. Hopefully someone else will chime in with better advice in terms of how to determine how many calories you really burn (which I'm sure is closer to the 2000+ range somewhere; there's no way it's 1100).

Those articles were great. As silly as it seems to me....I had it backwards. Thanks for clarifying and I like the 20% decrease in calories. The only problem I had with establishing a maintain weight was am I lightly active or sedentary? Whats the difference?
