wow - you guys are famous!
Tell me Annie - what is discusscooking.com? another forum site for recipes / cooking advice?
kitteh - ha ha ha - squirmy wormy kittens... well i can't tell you how many bad / out of focus cat hind end pictures i've deleted - thank goodness for digital cameras! Had a sort of bad weekend eating wise - guess i got too excited about being able to actually zip up my fat jeans... oh well.. doing better today will do a full hour of circuit training.. |
Sillycat-Discuss Cooking is just what it sounds like....a forum to discuss cooking.:D There are all kinds there from who I think might actually be chefs to home cooks like myself. It is fun to read and discuss and share there. I recently took a lovely lemon cake recipe from there and lightened it up a bit and was very happy with the result. There really isn't a huge light cooking area there, but I hope to contribute to that area. I believe you can go check it out without actually joining.

Cool - i think i will - always looking for tips
also - anyone here do "the firm" exercise dvds? i just got the "wave" series - kicks my tail..
wondering if anyone else here does those.. |
That would be a great idea about tips for cooking, I know I can always use some.
The weekend ended up as an eating disaster, I had about 7000 cal. total for Saturday & Sunday ( most of it peanut butter)combined. I'm gaining weight big time, i need to stop. Today was fine, wasn't even hungry. Probably cause I ate enough calories for about 5 days. So far I'm at 1280 today, still have to go out for V-Day though. I'll get the salad bar & just get veggies. I made the strawberries today, didn't even make any for myself, just not into it today. At least I got to take a walk for 30min. & I'm riding the bike for 15min. before we leave to go to dinner. Have a great day everyone! |
We took April to the off leash park today. The high was 65* and I was soaking up the sun in a short sleeve Tee. Just last week there was snow on the ground. I have some iris coming up already. And if you can believe this my phlox are blooming!!! Silly flowers! I need to go out in back to see if my camilla is blooming yet! Its about time!
Sillycat, I have a bunch of the Firms and do them often. I have some Wave DVD's but not the gadget. |
Happy Day After Valentine's Day! The restaurants last night was really nice, but there were 13 courses! Oy! But each one was small, so all in all it was a normal meal. I took lots of pictures of the food and the restaurant and will have a blog post about it, probably tonight. The waitress was also nice enough to snap a photo of my husband and me, post meal. My husband looks really soppy in the photo...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...jMwMi5qcGc.jpg We didn't get home until after midnight, but I was up early and in the gym the morning. jomatho, yup, that's me! I used to be really active when the site was Recipezaar, but when it was bought out by the Food Network it changed and a lot of the "old-timers" have either left or just lurk. I still host the Jewish/Kosher forum, but it's usually quiet in there. If you ever do make the dressing, please let me know. What's your name on the site (or do you just lurk?) Annie, I checked out the thread, and I did see that comment about my blog being entertaining. Thanks so much for the link, I've gotten quite a few hits from there now. Sillycat, how did the circuit training go yesterday? What do you do? Are you at a gym like Curves, or do you work something out on your own? fruitlady, how was your V-day dinner? Don't beat yourself up about the over-eating, that happens to everyone. I think sometimes our bodies just stage a mini-rebellion against the dieting and cause us to overeat. 72 degrees here today, the wind is nice and balmy and we're overcast and expecting some rain. I could deal with winter days if they were all like this... |
Hi folks! Wow, feeling really sleepy this morning for some reason! Trying to shake it off now. Smells like springtime here this morning. Hope it is on the way!!
Woke up to find my son's car painted in pink/red/white shoe polish for Valentine's Day yesterday from his girlfriend.;) She seems like a really sweet girl. I'm going to make grilled shrimp and cilantro/lime rice for our supper tonight. I'll probably have some shrimp left over, will have to use it up this week. I have tried to improve my use of leftovers lately. I have thrown away so much food in the past and it really isn't a good thing to do. I see all of my work going in the trashcan....and the money. Speaking of money...are you all noticing an increase in produce prices in your areas? We are having a temporary hike in prices here (they said it should last about 4 weeks) after the country-wide storms impacted the growers all over the country. Hope I don't faint next time I walk in the store. Fruitlady-Hang in there sister!!:carrot: PP-Can't believe your phlox are blooming already!! Wow!! Enjoy them.:) Mirj-Love the pic of you and DH. You two look very happy. Have a good day everyone! ETA- Approx. 4.5 miles (60ish min.) exercise this morning. |
Good morning.
Darned weight is staying the same. :( I want to see some movement--downward, of course. I think I've been eating well this week, but I guess I'd better review and make sure. Had really good exercise this morning. Annie--produce is always high here, but I have noticed some increases in fresh produce prices. The price of lettuce is scandalous. Break's over. Back to work. |
flowers and warm weather how nice! Our weather is hovering between -5 and +5 so what that creates is conditions where I cannot go for my lunchtime walk!!!!! grrrrrr.... I can walk on the roads which is fine but my trail with all the stairs and hills is to icy with the melt freeze melt freeze issue. they did sand it last week but it is a mess right now. Hoping I can try again at lunch today and be successful I find.
Food wise gave into the goodies at work yesterday,,,,,, I don't even care how much chocolate i ate, (which is better then beating myself up) but back on track today. Looking forward to biggest loser and some more motivation, if others can do it then I can too! Hi Annie - it is such a HUGE plus to like your boys girlfreinds, you never know who you are going to get stuck with a DIL. Have not noticed a price change here yet.... Mij- I like your comment of our bodies going on a mini rebellion and I soooo feel that way.... and I am sick of my body controlling me, I am the boss so there.... FL - hang in there, my weekend was bad too, onward we goooooo! |
Thanks all! Hope everyone had a great V-Day! As Ashley said, onward we go!
Last night was nice, my daughter & I met my aunt and uncle for dinner. I got the salad bar, the salad I made was only 96 calories including the Tsp. of dressing I put on the side. I wasn't hungry, so that was enough for me. It's a cold sunny day here, so no walk. Rode the bike again for 30min. Tomorrow it's supposed to be warmer, so maybe i can take a walk. I'm not beating myself up about the over eating this weekend. I will just move on with all clean food & hopefully this weight will come off. So far my weight stayed the same, I'm getting a little nervous. The gain may not be water weight, most likely it's fat. I decided that I will not buy any baked goods at the farmer's market til i get back down to 108lbs. Those baked goods are my downfall, I don't know how I went there every weekend for 2 yrs. without buying any sweets while dieting and in the early stage of maintaining my weight. I stayed away from all that stuff for over two years, I wish I could get that willpower back. That's how I kept the weight off for so long, no junk or processed food at all! I also was able to stay in a lower weight range( 104-109lbs) I miss those days, i didn't even crave junk. Now the cravings are so bad sometimes. I'm hoping the spring & summer will help keep my mind off of food, more on being outside exercising. It's gonna be a constant struggle for the rest of my life! |
just an observation, when I lost 50 pounds 7 years ago I was 38. The wieght kinda fell off when I worked at it. Now it takes longer and I have to work (physically)harder and eat less to loose and it does not come off as fast. If I have even one all out binge day I am back to square one where as before I could have a few and be okay. Now my goal is to not binge at all and eat like a normal person (if there is such a thing). So how much of this do you all attribute to age and here is the bad news, it is only going to get worse here is the good news if we work at it now and try to overcome some of the thinking and habits our 50's won't seem as hard!!! What do ya'll think.
On the bright side I have cut way back on carbs, I use to eat way more but that is because i needed more, I have noticed I don't want near as many as in my 20's. I can go a whole week without a potatoe in any form, I would have died without potatoes in my 20's. I only eat i piece of bread sandwhiches now and I NEEDED two before. Anyways just some thoughts and observations. |
Ashely - yes - i think that it is age.. i have been logging my food on everydayhealth.com's site - i did this before when i lost 47lbs.. and it did help - but i noticed that now my "calorie requirement" to lose 1 lb a week is less than it was a few years ago... i fear that as i continue down the age path eventually i'll not be able to eat anything and have to exercise all day... good thing i should be retired by then! I haven't noticed that i don't want food as much - but i have noticed that if i want the results that i need to consiously modify my wants and think more about what i NEED vs want..
Mirj - circuit training went well!! I don't belong to a gym anymore as i've got a room in my house dedicated - with treadmill - tv - dvd player - elyptical etc.. which is really nice when it comes to no excuses! The firm dvd's i just got from firmdirect.com - got the "wave" set - i like them because they are new to me - they do really challenge me but as with anything for me i need a "newness" factor to keep me at it and challenging myself.... today this am - went running outside - and so far took a 30 minute brisk 1.5 mile walk - need to get another walk in and maybe a 2nd workout this evening.. |
hi all, just checking in although nothing very exciting to report.
Execrcise is all on track and i've started a training program to take me to Sydney half marathon (13miles) in May. I"m way over my target of 2011 seconds per day of exercise for the year and have about 12 days-worth in hand at the moment, so doing good on that front. I might need them though as i'm working for a week in Shandong (china) and a week in inner mongolia from monday, so don't know whether i'll be able to go running over there or not. Never been before. Did big dinner for 8 friends at the weekend. Strawberry champagne and a red rose for the girls on arrival (the boys were just boyish, and had beer!) Pate with caramalised onions and french bread starter, then a really rich rabbit dish with 2 whole bottles of red wine in it, shallots, garlic for mains. Yum yum. Chocolate and nougart parfait with raspberry coulis and raspberries for dessert. Cheese and biscuits, coffee, lots of wine, dessert wine, coffees, chocolates, and a late night. It was fun, but couldn't do it too often! fruitlady - i'm hearing you with not being able to get back that strict discipline. Sometimes it happens, and i don't know the answer. Don't give up trying though. It's always worth trying not to put more weight on, even if you give up trying to lose weight for the moment. |
Sillycat, thanks for the good laugh - not eating and exercising all day, made me laugh so hard and I neeeded that, sad thought it that is what we are working towards. Yay on your exercise, room so far I have an eliptical and tv in my basement, I want a machine where you can do upper body wieghts too.
I have also come to a place if I really want dessert I am not going to eat dinner just to get it, thus overeating, so sometimes when I am hungry I will have my treat and be able to stay on plan. |
