I'm new

Hi, I just found the forums here. I am 42 and I currently weigh 309.6. My first goal is to weigh 260 by the end of the year. My eventual goal is somewhere around 150. I'm happy to have found this community!

I just had to reply. I'm new, 40, and 302 at 5"2". I have spent the last few years feeling hopeless but after reading a few of the posts here I am thinking that it might be nice to chat with other people who are having similar weight issues. You are not alone!
Good luck to everyone!

Welcome. Since Chicks can be overwhelming at first, I suggest you look for a support group or challenge to join; a small group of friends to help keep you motivated. Find one you like that fits your needs, or inspires you, and just post to join.

Well, this time I am not following a commercial diet plan, nor am I following my self-imposed diet plan of the past, which consisted of frozen low calorie meals. I've tried Jenny Craig (gained 10 lbs and never cheated once) and Weight Watchers with no success.

This time I am thinking of it as a change in the way I approach food for the rest of my life, not a temporary fix so I can go back to my old eating habits when I'm "done".

This time I am including exercise, in a real gym with a real trainer, which I never did before (I even tried to get out of PE as a kid).

That's my basic formula this time (hopefully the LAST time!)

Gina (who has lost 5 lbs in the last week!) :)

Hi and Welcome!!

gshillitani 06-14-2010 12:12 PM

Thanks for all of the welcome messages! I'm afraid that loss was a fluke, I've been seeing the scale go up steadily since then. :( This morning I actually weighed more than I did when I started a week ago! Its driving me crazy because I have been sticking to my plan perfectly. Its frustrating and I don't understand it.

How about giving us a sample menu for a day. Include exercise and water intake. You'll be surprised by what some of the more experienced people will see.

Regardless...don't let it discourage you. Weightloss is not a linear thing. It's going to go up and down across the days, weeks, and months. The important thing is the overall trend is downward. Stick with the plan. Afterall , isn't this a life-long change, not short term?

You can do this! :D

gshillitani 06-14-2010 07:07 PM

Okay, here's what I had today:

Whole grain oatmeal with a splash of 1% milk and a tbsp of Splenda
Banana
Kashi granola bar
Salad
LF String Cheese
Chicken breast, mixed vegetables, long grain brown and wild rice

96 oz. water

exercise was yesterday and tomorrow - I go every other day to the gym

I'll probably have one more snack before I go to bed. My program says I've eaten 1167 calories today. I'm trying to follow a 1500 calorie or less diet.
