CruiseCAT-Congrats to your hubby! Awesome!

WLW-I do hope you start feeling better this weekend. Get as much rest as you can. (I saw your suggestion to NewLeaf about talking on the phone and exercising at the same time. If I did that, whoever I was talking to would probably hang up and call 911 thinking I was having a heart attack!:dizzy:)

HomeSchoolin-Congrats on the smaller size clothing!!:carrot: I've not been to a concert at the casinos but I hear they are great because of the smaller venue. I have no advice on the upcoming wedding, but sounds like fun along with all of the planning.

I went shopping this evening. Bought a new pair of shoes. Wanted a blouse and went to Ross. No blouse, but bought a small load of new kitchen gadgets and an apron! It is so cute, kind of a vintage '50s print. It will be fun to wear. I have never worn an apron. I also bought new pillows for my bed. Laura Ashley for $6.99 each!! Still would like to find a new blouse, but nothing caught my eye and I didn't really feel like trying on things.

Yard plans may need to be cancelled for tomorrow.:( We'll see how it goes. By the time all the boys get home from their respective work/social activities, it is supposed to be windy as he**....30 mph after 12:00....and cold. Sunday is church, but maybe the afternoon will be okay for work. We'll see.

Took older son out to eat earlier and we had a good talk, too. (Younger son went to a friend's to spend the night.) Had TERRIBLE food! The only halfway healthy thing they had was "Naked Wings" which were grilled chicken tenders w/ wing sauce on the side. No flavor on the chicken and they were tough as shoe leather. Got a side salad of iceberg lettuce and old tomatoes w/ a bag of fat free ranch dressing. Bleh. I could have thrown $10 in the trash and been happier with my mushroom omelet from last night! I did indulge in a few tortilla chips with queso/chili, but even that was over-microwaved and not satisfying. I don't think I will go back to that place anymore. Baked 1/2 batch of brownies for the boys and I may eat one or two this weekend, but that is all.

I was able to get back to doing my Ab Slider. I did 50 reps. I had tried recently and felt a sharp pull in my right abdomen, so I gave it a rest for a while. No pulling tonight! I tried on a pair of jeans (size 16) that I had worn the first time I met my fiance in 2004. They fit!! I do need to get them hemmed because they were always so long that I had to wear heels with them. They will be good transition pants until I go smaller.;)

Have a good evening everyone! Thinking of Petra at the beach....I'm jealous.

Will read back and do personals this weekend...2 quick things

Heidi- the haircut, adorable!

Wanted to check in with an 8 mile run tonight :)

weightlosswanted 03-27-2010 06:07 AM

Apparently I have new neighbors upstairs and they woke me up at 4am so I'm not a happy camper!

Annie: even walking at a gentle pace on the treadmill while talking on the phone is better than no exercise : ) I don't recommend a full workout and trying to have a conversation - though I do have one friend who can run on it and talk at the same time, and you would never know it!

Deb: way to go on the 8 mile run!

Hope everyone has a great saturday, I'm going to try for a couple more hours sleep before work!

Red Hook Mom 03-27-2010 06:38 AM

Happy Saturday! I wish someone would explain to the dog that it's not only Saturday, it's spring break. He could lay off the 5:45 breakfast and walk. But he went to the groomer yesterday, so he's pretty and sweet smelling. I forgot to tell you all that I stopped counting calories. It makes me totally crazy and I'm not sure that I find it helpful. (And I'm never surprised by how many calories things have.) If I don't make my two and a half pounds of weight loss this week, I'll go back to counting. You can estimate on the GWF page, and I have 1800 for my estimated number, which was higher than my average from last week. Did my third run yesterday and as it was in the low thirties and windy, I went for the treadmill. Such a different feeling--initially easier ('cause you don't have to move forward) but the runs at the end were harder because I wasn't picking a slower pace the way I'd naturally do by myself. Anyway, I'm not sore at all today. Yippee!

I've been thinking this week about how I let myself get away with crap that I would never let my daughter do. Eating things, of course (if she went downstairs at bedtime for a couple of cookies and a few slices of cheese I'd think she'd lost her little mind). But also thinking of how she prefers things that come easily to things that are hard. She had a fine practice at soccer - I think because I told her that I don't care if she plays or not. But the first time she isn't really trying, we're done with it. (I've had three seasons of not trying. It makes me crazy.) I want to be a person who tries new things: even things which I'm not good at. And, having decided to try something...I want to follow through. Starting this week: work on my Italian. If I can run or go to the gym for six days a week, I can carve out 30 minutes to improve my Italian.

Okay...gonna post this before I lose it and come back for personals in a bit.

Red Hook Mom 03-27-2010 01:42 PM

Back for fast personals, as I promised my daughter I'd spend exactly 15 minutes on the computer!

Petra - your dogs are beyond cute!!! The fitbit looks totally cute. Can't wait to hear about how the lecture went.
ICU - that's a LOT of teacher conferences! Glad that the news there was so good. What else would you like to do, careerwise? Come on...spill it!
CruiseCAT - My mice always liked peppermint oil. I think it made the experience of looking for crumbs on my counter more pleasant. The late winter mouse seems to be gone, though. Yay! I was going to do spring cleanup in the yard this weekend, too, but it's 37! How did that happen? Go, Mack!!!!!
Wizzie - I've always wanted a Bernese Mountain Dog. Did I thank you for the heel thingies link? Thanks, if I haven't already. Hope you're having fun on your walk.
Marie - What a totally, TOTALLY fun sounding weekend! Yes, weird about buying your dog. Someone wanted to buy my Chinese maple tree. They had a local landscaper call up and offer me forty thousand! (And not that many years ago I would have been "here's a shovel!") Found out that it's not unusual, but it was still weird!
AnnieD - don't you hate it when all you can think of is food? Congrats on fitting back into your old jeans!
LolaJean - Yay for 24 pounds!
NewLeaf - sending good wishes to your sister!!! And I love bok choy. And I'm going to start coming over to work out in your basement. And I had a similar meltdown at a store this week where I was doing the pick-it-up, put-it-down shuffle. So funny!
WLW - good for you with building your own sandwich! I love it that more places are listing calories now.
FindingMeAgain - Welcome! This is a wonderful list, with a lot of new people. (I'm one of them.)
Countryhomeschoolin - Terrific about the new size clothes! I have friends who homeschool - I have a lot of admiration for them and for you!

lambchop 03-27-2010 07:12 PM

I apologize but personals aren't going to happen today...hope to be back on point by Monday...I didn't hydrate well (read properly) before or after my run (during I was fine) and ended up with chills and shakes...bad me, I know better...but spent the better part of the night paying for it...i'm exhausted today, was up a good part of the night - when you do endurance - it's not enough to just drink while you run...the before/after is just as important!

Anyway, feel wiped today and just don't have the oomph to catch up.

angelskeep 03-27-2010 08:11 PM

I know I will never get caught up with everyone, but figured I would report in. We went for a bicycle ride today, no surprise there. .:bike2::bike2: Minor hillwork, into the wind. UGH! We rode between Cody and the Buffalo Bill Reservoir, on the old original dam road The critter du jour was a big ol' Canada goose in the middle of the road. When he/she saw us, he/she waddled away for dear life and then took off flying. Fun to see them take off. I dunno where the rest of the flock was; they don't usually travel solo. Pretty soon it will be pelican time...my favorite. I've never managed to get a good pic

For dinner :hun: we had salisbirdie :turkey: steak and baked potatoes and spicy coleslaw and I am stuffed to exploding for the first time in a while. Good food! The entree was a remake from a food network recipe and the same with the coleslaw.

I somehow managed to rent a copy of the new Twilight movie from redbox, which I thought for sure would already be rented, so we'll sit and watch that :corn: and eat a skinny :moo: cow ice cream sandwich later this evening.

Wish me luck tomorrow. Sunday is weigh in, and I worked pretty hard this week, with only one day off and always on my food plan for calories and fat.

AnnieDrews 03-27-2010 10:09 PM

Well, it was a very weird 24 hours around here. Last night a big wind gust blew my older son's window out at 11 p.m. He was not hurt, thank God! The glass fell outwards. We taped up garbage bags with duct tape until this morning when I could call the landlord. He came over and replaced the window and all is well again. Needless to say, my poor yard did not get attended to. We had winds and rain again today, so I don't know if we will be able to get out tomorrow or not. Maybe at least to pick up sticks and have older son run weed eater. Then maybe mow one or two evenings this week. I'm sure my neighbors are hoping we get to it sooner rather than later.

I won't go into the gory details of my food today. It is not for the faint of heart. Let's just say the Burger King and Gummy Bears were involved (not simultaneously, I'm not that much of a freak:D)....although I did check calorie count online before I went out and ate better than I could have. Back on track this evening though.

Love to all!

Red Hook Mom 03-28-2010 06:24 AM

Good morning, everyone! Back in bed with coffee and my laptop and the latest US magazine. (I do like celebrity gossip.) Such a good way to start the day. Trying to decide if I want to go to the park and run today as it's supposed to rain tomorrow and Tuesday. Decisions, decisions. Promised the daughter that I'd make brunch this morning. Asparagus and mushroom omelette and bacon. Yum! We're going to knock out the thank you notes from her birthday party two weeks ago...that's just the kind of thing that I put off (even more than this) and then hate myself for. Maybe I'll tackle another corner in the great basement cleanup. Low-keyed Sunday, since it's not warm and sunny.

Lambchop - hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, babe! (I know that you know that.)

Angelskeep - I love Redbox!!! You have pelicans? I don't know why that surprises me. I guess I don't know much about birds. Spicy coleslaw sounds yummy...I'll take a look at the Food Network page. And I had an ice cream sandwich last night, too...not Skinny Cow but a local brand that does a churned one without so many calories.

AnnieDrews - Wow--very scary, the window blowing out! (And lucky, as far as those things go!) Had a big laugh about your food day...hey, have you ever seen "Chopped"?...Food Network, I think. The chefs had four mystery ingredients to work into each course...once they had gummy bears for the dessert course and they were whipping up these gourmet sauces and such. Seriously, hope you're back on track!

Have a good Sunday, folks!

CruiseCAT 03-28-2010 07:53 AM

Morning ladies….

Up at the usual time even though it’s the weekend and the plan was to sleep in.

We got some of the yard work done but not all. Will drag the yard today and spray the front. Living in the desert we have a dirt yard and the front is rock. The back we use a baseball diamond dragger but the edges and easement behind the fence are done by hand. The pool is done but I still need to do the filters. So no hike today; will finish what we started yesterday.

Lookout TuningIn, DSS takes his first behind the wheel class tomorrow. After a couple trips out to Lucerne we plan to let him drive us around EVERY chance we can. I’ll continue to drive him down the hill for school the rest of this year but hopefully he’ll be ready when school starts in August and then when he get’s his license at the end of September he’ll have the experience to go it alone….. still not sure I’ll ever feel good about that.

Thank you Kathi – I’m always telling the kids either you can go along willingly or kicking and screaming…. Willingly is SOOO much better. I am not naïve to think that one can go thru life always being happy; however, I do believe that we can be empowered to deal with life’s tribulations and take ownership of the situations we ourselves create. Part of my objective is to help DSS differentiate between the things he is responsible for and those things that he must make the best of.

CHS – My son married his high school sweetheart back in 2005. My part (rehearsal dinner) was easy even from 2500 miles away. My thoughts are with you.

Annie – We have a Ross that opened this year less than 2 miles from our house; it is my new favorite store. I too hate trying stuff on but I’m in there so much I know I can always bring something back if I don’t like it.

Scary about that window, glad DS is OK.

RHM – Good for you, teaching your daughter the proper etiquette of thank you notes. Hope you enjoy whatever you decided to do…. I’m thinking a run at the park sounds nice. Speaking of parks, the one we walk at occasionally had a dam that broke and now the lake is empty. Maybe I’ll run by there this week and get some pictures.

Well off to feed the dogs.

Have a GREAT Sunday.

Onmyway 03-28-2010 11:57 AM

I've let things here get out of hand and now I'm too far behind to catch up with personals. Sorry!

I had a great week exercise and eating wise and was rewarded today with a big fat gain on the scale. I'm up 3 lbs! What the he** is that about? I'm thinking part of it is related to my cycle or lack of cycle these days. I was about 2 weeks late and now have been having a period for about 2 weeks. Last time this happened my period ended about 2 days before starting again. Yuck. All I can do is just keep doing what I am doing and we'll see what this week brings.

I'll try to be better about posting this week. Enjoy your Sunday everyone!

Marie 03-28-2010 12:15 PM

Cindy, that is a bummer about your trip. I hope Mack, the deserved award winner, can take the week off.

WLW, I hope you’re feeling better.

Annie, I feel your irritation with going out and being very disappointed. I went to a restaurant that a co-worker and I frequent. The food was horrendous this time and the service just as bad. I won’t go back. I like your visual of throwing $10 in the trash because that’s how I felt. Wow on the wind. I’m glad your DS is fine,

Liz, interesting note about the treadmill running and not letting yourself take it easy at the end. Sometimes those machines just keep us honest. And the tree offer, that’s really odd. I take it a Chinese maple tree is rare. Hmm, 40 grand probably would have me offering to shovel but never my dogs.

Deb, feel better and make friends with carrying a water bottle at all times.

OMW, scales are evil. You know you did everything right so it's the nasty scale playing tricks on you.

Saturday’s family adventure was great. The Science Museum is a hand-on place and I learned a ton. It was cool and DGS loved it. He spent his 4th b-day gift cards at Toys R Us so clearly the day was perfect in his eyes. Mine too. We all had fun. DD bought a bikini yesterday and for those that have been chatting with me for a long while know the circumstances of my daughter so it was a big deal. She tried it on last night for DH and I. She looked great. Today is a lazy day. We promised DGS we’d just stay home and he could play with his toys all day and drive Kai Pixie Bear nuts. Right now she’s staring down the hallway to the room he’s sleeping in, willing the boy to wake up so they can play more.
Marie

Onmyway 03-28-2010 04:22 PM

Had a little time so I thought I would work on my personals!

Marie, Glad to hear you are having such a great weekend with DGS. I’m sure the bikini was a big step for your DD, She’s come a long way!

Cat, Sounds like you have gotten into a regular routine with DSS. He is so lucky to have you and Mack both!

RedHook Mom, Not warm and sunny here in the Midwest today. I’m seriously considering a nap! Your omelette sounds wonderful!

Annie, scary night for you! Glad DS was not hurt and that your landlord got things taken care of quickly! Hope things are going well for your older son.

Angelskeep, Hope your weigh in went well today! Pelicans in Wyoming! Never would have guessed!

Countryhomeschoolin, YAY! for buying a smaller size. I admire anyone who homeschools! You must be very patient!

WLW, sorry to hear you are not feeling well on your first Sunday off! Get well soon!

Newleaf, LOVE your new haircut! Happy to hear you walked away from the Moose Munch! That is not always an easy thing to do!

ICU, I seem to remember something about starting your own business. Is it time?

Findingmeagain, Sum38 and Rottiedog, Welcome to the 40’s chat!

Petra, Hope you had a great trip to Destin and that your speech went well!

Wizzie, How did the walk go?

Lolajean, Did DH’s lasik go well? 24 pounds is awesome!

Peanutsmom, Snow in March, that is just wrong!

Lambchop, Hope you are out of your funk and back to your old self. I think a lot of us have similar changes in mood. At least we recognize when we are not ourselves.

SuzyMc, Hope things with Aunt Hazel have settled down. Sorry to hear she has declined so quickly.

There! I did it! I’m all caught up! Hope everyone enjoys what is left of their weekend!

weightlosswanted 03-28-2010 10:55 PM

Well I got on my scale this morning, nothing new or different but it just hit me wrong and I said, "ahhhh, screw you!" I've been bouncing up and down between 164 and 167 for several months now. I'll have to settle for it not consistently going up, but would like to see it dip below 164 for a change. New schedule, getting ready to move to a new place, time to pick up the pace and start exercising and working on the food plan.

I went from sniffly and sneezy to stuffy and blowing. Ugh! My old neighbor came by with some cold medicine this morning and I made it to the store to stock up the mediciane cabinet. Then my girlfriend and I went to a local festival and did some shopping.

I get to do a real monday tomorrow : ) Hope everyone has a great week!
