Mid-cycle spotting after exercise?

I was working out today, nothing too intense at all really, just some cardio. Afterwards I had some spotting and kinda freaked out. It is 12 days into my cycle. I am going to call my doctor tomorrow and get seen asap, I am just wondering if this is unusual. I will be 41 in a few weeks so my first thought was perimenopause? I am overdue for a pap and I am scared.

Thanks for any feedback.

I am older than you at 47 but I have spotting with straining sometimes. I was told it was mainly peri-menopause but I also have a very thick uterine lining.

Thank you Sheena for the reply. I am glad to hear that it can be something semi-normal. Oh the joys of aging. :)

I am younger and even on the pill, and I have noticed spotting when it comes to working out too...didnt concern me and stopped after a not too long...(within 2 wks of doing the same intensity of work)

I wouldn't worry too much about it but I also think that spotting should always be checked out. Each time for me, it has been nothing, but it can also be a sign of problems. I was spotting a couple of weeks ago and I'm going for an ultrasound this week to make sure I don't have any polyps that have developed.

Just wanted to give an update in case anyone else has this issue. While it can be nothing and usually is, I did have it checked out. My GYN found something abnormal on my cervix. I am going back in 4 weeks for a microscopic look and a biopsy. It still may be nothing, but I'm glad I went.

Absolutely the right thing to do... I'm so glad you went. Hopefully the biopsy will be benign. But in the event that it isn't, always better to find out sooner rather than later. Wishing you the very best of luck!

Thanks Heidi. I'll update after I get the test results. :)

I'm in my mid-20's and I used to have spotting when I was 40lbs heavier after heavy workouts or workouts that had me do lots of ab work or pilates. But it completely went away as I lost the weight.
Good luck, dear. I hope it is nothing serious.
