Check this out http://www.flydogfitness.com/Home_Page.php It's a local group that combines getting fit with raising money for animals. I'm not sure I can really do 6am 3 mornings a week but I've been eyeballing their website and facebook page for over a month and just contacted them for more info. What really got my attention is the heavier woman in the one video who is struggling to keep up, you can see that they've given her some alternate options and at one point one of the instructors is right there working with her. I'm thinking I might just give this a shot.

Thank all of you for the encouragement and advice you are sending my way. I have been going through hard times with my hubby (long story)and I tend to become withdrawn and go to food when things aren't going well so this last week has been a struggle. I am doing a lot of self talk to keep from going to the food. Scale not down this morning but I know it will come. Not going to the gym this week doesn't help but the weather is horrible and I don't want to be out on the roads. I get to and from work which is only two miles from my house and that is risky enough right now.
CAT: I feel for your husband, things are crazy out here. I was driving down Corwin Rd the other day and it was more like a river. As I am typing this the rain is pouring and my front and back yard are filling up. My dogs are going crazy too. Keep strong on the family issue, been there done that. Petra: I knew you would do good with your lecture. Although I don't know you I get the feeling you are a strong person. lamchop: You and I seem to be struggling with the same weight range. I have been trying to get out of the 220's it seems like forever. We will get there. Keep up the good work. Have a great Thursday everyone. |
I made it to pilates! The nursing home was about what I expected. There is still a very sad atmosphere hanging over the place. I have a MR patient there who I suspected wasn't going to be able to handle that very well and sure enough as soon as I saw her she started wailing. Even some of the staff seemed to just want to talk to me. I've been seeing patients there for almost 2 years now so I guess they feel kind of comfortable with me.

Thanks for the input everyone! Not feeling well, sore throat and achy so I am taking it easy. Diet is great because I don't feel like eating but exercise is off the agenda yesterday and now today. Fly by post, I actually already posted on week 2 chat by mistake, oh well! Take care everyone, I love reading even if I don't comment back too!

Good evening friends!
Floors are done, new furnace works great. PTO provided lunch for us at school today. Lots of soups so I was able to make a good choice without going overboard. I'm leaving Friday to visit a good friend in Houston. Talked with her yesterday and they have temps in the 70's! How awesome is that! Know I really need to up my exercise but just can't seem to get into a good routine. My mornings are very fragmented and I hate getting up early. I know what I need to do, just have to find it within myself to make it happen! |
Onmyway: enjoy houston, mom says the weather is great! stop at Katz's Deli if you get a chance, they make awesome sandwiches : )

Lamb, Marie, Heidi, Petra and Peanut - You've liberated me from the "I'm feeling guilty because I weight almost daily" syndrome! I've always heard and been told to only weight once per week, but like many of you I prefer to weigh daily or almost daily so even though no one was in the restroom with me, I would do it quickly and I'm sure with a guilty look on my face. The things we do! :) It works for me and also helps keep me in check and even more motivated if I see a drop - so NO MORE GUILT.
Natalie - hope you are back to 100% soon. I had some stomach distress for about 2 hours last night - probably just something I ate at lunch. I'm all better today. Tuning In - The "old me" would do exactly what you described was the "old you" would do when confronted with stress, especially when my husband and I were out of sync - withdraw into my little inner shell and mindlessly eat food to soothe my jumpy emotions. There are so many better ways to deal with those daily little and big upsets I'm learning. GREAT JOB with your new discipline in that area. Doing pretty good this week - I think I'll see a good 2-3 lb loss at my official weigh in on Monday. Hope everyone has a great day! Jeanette |
I did a 4 mile run last night, and I feel fine this morning. We're back on! Very relieved to get the first longer one out of the way. I missed 2 weeks of long runs, so I chose the length carefully, not too much to overdo it, but enough to be considered a long run....going out with my mom and sister this afternoon, otherwise quiet day here.
-- Annie- you'll work back up to it, just do a gradual build, and before you know it - you'll be there! Marie- I saw you mentioned Hungry Girl's book- do you like it? I've looked at it on more than one ocassion, and didn't get it. Not sure why, but i think the snacks under 200 calories might be awesome. SpinMom- waving, hello back! Heidi - glad the scale didn't move, and hope you had a nice time at book club WLW- glad to hear your BMI is dropping, great news. I understand the feeling and meds..i get like that too - will check out the link, thx Tuning In - i'm sorry it's a rough time with DH. My reaction was like yours when frustrated...go inside myself, and want food...i'm learning distraction can be an answer also..((hugs)) Petra- i'm glad they were able to talk to you, and their comfort level has grown. Good job on getting to Pilates Natalie - hope you're feeling better today Onmyway- yeah on the floors and heat! Oooh, I'd love 70's again. I'm hoping ot see a few in Florida in March, because they won't be hitting Jersey any time soon Mom/6 - yes, I find that i have gotten better about my weight, because I understand how the body fluctuates, so i don't panic if it moves around (the scale) - it tells me that it's normal and no need to panic if it nudges one way or the other - and i'd like to know my average - it will help me with maintenance as well - as i'll set a range to be in |
Hello to everyone!
Had a little hiccup in my healthy eating plan last night, but nothing that will derail me forever. Life goes on......AND the scale was down 0.5 pound this a.m.! Not official until next week, though. I am still struggling with getting my butt on the elliptical. Started with such good intentions yesterday. Got befuddled last night (unrelated to diet and healthy lifestyle) and that threw my mood off. Unfortunately these types of things only reinforce my stubborness to do things that I should do. Just like a 2-year-old holding her breath, I get contrary. Want to get over this roadblock and get to work! I have been investigating the wonders of flaxseed. Anyone care to chime in? Specifically wondering how many calories it would add to my diet by incorporating 2-4 Tbsp. of flaxseed daily into something that I eat. Any input on this appreciated. Have a healthy day everyone! |
Looks like I answered my own question on the calories in flaxseed.
1 Tbsp = 37.38 calories Still appreciate any input! |
WeightLossWanted – 6:00am workouts?? Um, no, I can’t imagine doing that… But it sounds like a wonderful program. You should go check it out!
TuningIn – good job on staying focused on what’s important to you (the positive self talk away from food)! I hope your stress eases a little soon. Petra – great job on getting to pilates! It sounds like your patients and the people around you have grown to rely on you, which must be a nice feeling! Manatee – I hope you’re feeling a little better today! OnMyWay – I’m glad your floors are in and your heat is on! Nice job on the soups! I hope you’re able to find a way to get your exercise in. I know it’s hard, I struggle with that, too. MomTo6 – sounds like you are doing great! I’m glad you’re feeling liberated from your guilt now! LOL LambChop – congrats on your 4 miles yesterday – you are so on top of your game! My boys have their orchestra concert tonight, which is always fun to go to. They both play the cello. I’m on my way to the basement to the stairmaster momentarily, and then out to run errands. |
AnnieDrews sorry you got derailed from exercising... Hopefully today will be better. Re: the flaxseed, first off -- are you using ground flax seed (or ground flax meal, same thing I think) or whole seeds? If you are using the seeds, they just pass right through you from what I understand and you don't get the nutritional benefit.
I throw about a teaspoon and a half into my hot cereal every morning because it is supposed to be so good for you. But I don't do the multiple tablespoon thing for 2 reasons: 1) I don't want to dedicate that many calories to it and 2) My mother had ovarian cancer and from what I've read, if you have a history of ovarian cancer, you shouldn't overdo it on the flax because it can cause problems. But, who knows -- I just googled it and found John Hopkins recommending flax as a potential cancer fighter. There's so much conflicting information out there! But I figure that my mother had the cancer, not me, and that in small amounts, how bad can it be?? |
AnnieDrews, I looked up my flax, it has 30 cal / Tbs. It's ground, not whole so maybe that's the difference? Oh, and the other thing to know if you buy it: they recommend that you store it in the fridge because it can go bad. What I do is store most of it in the fridge, but then keep a small container in the cabinet with all my other hot cereal add-ins (protein powder, raisins, chopped nuts) and just refill it each week from the fridge supply when it gets empty.

Thanks, Newleaf, for the info. Does the flax change the taste of your food?
|
Annie, sounds like you did well at the chick-fil-a place. Knowing the calories before going was a great idea.
Newleaf, I bet the pie was worth every calorie. Having it is actually a success because you still got on the scale and are still on track. For most of my life I could diet or not. Nothing in between. Now I can have an occasional splurge and getting back on the wagon isn’t even a fight. I sure wish I’d reached this point earlier in my life. But I’m not looking back. So no 6:00 am workouts??? I take it you wouldn’t like my 4:30 am workouts…:o WLW, congrats on the BMI being lower. :carrot:Your comment about heels on the elliptical made me realize I haven’t had heel pain in a year. I’d been at the point of having steroids shot into the heel (can we all say owwwww). Then I looked at what my podiatrist was wearing – Birkenstocks – and I ordered my first pair. Within one week, the pain was gone. Vanished. Now I have a closet full of Birks and no heel pain. Also join the flydogfitness. The worst you could do is not do well and I bet that won’t happen. TuningIn – hugs. :hug:Marital struggles are so difficult and food does seem like a comfort. Petra, great job on making it to pilates.:carrot: Natalie, I hope you feel better quickly. OMW, yeah on the home repairs being done. Enjoy your trip! Nonto6 – I’m glad the guilt is gone. We are all so different on works for us, it’s beyond counterproductive to feel guilty. Good job accepting what you need to do. Lamb, welcome back to the land of running. :carrot::carrot::carrot:I’m glad you are recovered! I do like the HG cookbook but I really like her daily emails best. I’ve definitely used several of her recipes. The chicken cordon bleu is a staple in our dinner menus. It tastes awesome and is cheap calories. Annie, as much as I love my elliptical, it isn’t for everyone. Since you don’t want to do it, why not find a different exercise to get started with? Walking is a great thing to do and it’s free. |
